Yes. He does. A large part of diplomacy is not alienating people. Trump is possibly the worst diplomat in modern history and is incredibly sensitive because of his narcissism. The bar for not alienating Trump is set so low that you have to sycophantically crawl under it. Rutte is an excellent limbo dancer. The only people Trump doesn’t require fawning sycophancy from are Putin, Netanyahu and Mamdani. Putin and Netanyahu because they are bigger and better bullies. But I have no idea why he is so enamoured if Mamdani. Possibly he sees him as some kind of route back into New York.

Have you ever asked why Zelensky has run along Trump too? Just because he doesn't have the power to leave NATO doesn't mean there aren't many ways he could effectively do that anyway. Relocating troops, assets, etc and who knows what else.
For now, placate the toddler to keep NATO intact and hope for the inevitable blood clot sooner than later.
