Is Scott playing Danny? since Hawaii Five-0 is in the same universe as NCIS
189
SuicideSkwad Apr 15, 2026 +67
Unfortunately article says a new character…
67
DogVacuum Apr 15, 2026 +49
Manny, then.
49
nowhereman136 Apr 16, 2026 +34
Please tell me he's playing a Hawaiian surfer dude cop who moved to New York. Essentially the opposite of the character he playing in 5-0
34
RangerLt Apr 16, 2026 +8
I think that's a bit out of his range.
8
nowhereman136 Apr 16, 2026 +9
Are you saying Scott Caans acting abilities aren't up to the NCIS standards?
9
RangerLt Apr 16, 2026 +6
No, just regular ole sarcasm.
6
vinylzoid Apr 16, 2026 +3
Scott Caan doesn't do more than one character.
3
RPDRNick Apr 16, 2026 +7
He caan't.
7
Levonorgestrelfairy1 Apr 15, 2026 +11
Inb4 Grace is a navel intelligence agent.
11
elSpanielo Apr 16, 2026 +3
Well Jess played Quinn in Hawaii Five-0. So even though they had crossovers I guess they don’t care.
3
VastStranger1164 Apr 16, 2026 +1
It has happened before. The actor that played McGarrett's commander also played a suspect on NCIS with PTSD or something. Also NCIS LA should've crossed paths with the rebooted MacGyver as both are based in LA. MacGvyer and Hawaii 5-0 had a multi episode corssover. The target demographic of these shows don't care and don't know. NCIS itself is a spin-off. Running for 30 years with multiple spin-offs about cops for Navy and Marines is a f****** miracle
1
SadisticNecromancer Apr 16, 2026 +3
JAG was the only good show out of all these CBS cop shows. Also Catherine Bell was a smoke show back in the day.
3
sickboy76 5 days ago +1
Wasn't scorpion also set in that universe as well?
1
lordatlas Apr 16, 2026
Gee, I wonder if the article addresses this...

spinereader81 Apr 15, 2026 +89
Finally, a crime show set in New York City!
89
TuvixWillNotBeMissed Apr 16, 2026 +5
My exact thoughts during the CSI craze when they set their third show in NYC with the aggressively cold blue colour grading.

That's the joke.
16
briebrown1204 Apr 16, 2026 -13
Please tell me that was a sarcastic comment. There are many crime shows set in NYC (CSI: NY, Law and Order, Law and Order: SVU, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, FBI etc)
-13
asayys Apr 15, 2026 +126
I wonder how many navy related crimes per year there actually are
126
Maddie-Moo Apr 15, 2026 +163
I knew a guy who worked at the real NCIS and words cannot convey how much he hated the show. “Someone’s laptop got stolen once and we found it. That was the highlight of my career.”
163
ThatOneChiGuy Apr 16, 2026 +24
Was it at least an Alienware or something?
24
RangerLt Apr 16, 2026 +24
Lenovo, unfortunately.
24
Smitty_jp Apr 16, 2026 +12
Most of the time NCIS investigates sexual assaults.
12
LitCanon Apr 16, 2026 +7
NCIS: SVU when?!
7
ScyllaOfTheDepths Apr 16, 2026 +7
Just like every forensic scientist hated CSI. No, the forensic scientists aren't out there with big guns strapped to their hips interrogating witnesses. That's a massive conflict of interest. Do you really want cops responsible for collecting and processing evidence? No, absolutely not. That's why they're not allowed to!
7
intecknicolour Apr 16, 2026 +9
thats why NCIS LA was better than the original. they are more like intelligence officers than naval cops.
9
Ok-Magician818 Apr 16, 2026 +3
I actually laughed out loud at this.
3
Tight-Principle-743 Apr 15, 2026 +57
Very little I’d imagine - reminds me of a British show called Midsomer murders, which is on its 25th series and all the murders happen in a very tiny village and so they’ve begun to get rather far-fetched with the murders, one time they killed off a guy with a cheese wheel.
57
judithishere Apr 15, 2026 +38
The murders actually take place in Midsomer county, which includes several towns and villages
38
madtownjeff Apr 16, 2026 +14
Don't forget there seem to be at least 4 murders per episode minimum. And to be fair the do make fun of themselves about it fairly often.
14
MadTube Apr 15, 2026 +13
So it’s Murder She Wrote, but in England.
13
Tundraspin Apr 15, 2026 +6
the guy who got thrown in the beer tub and then the gathering of people drank from the beer tub. the beer tasted off some noticed some didn't then they found the body. even the main detective drank the contaminated beer.
6
SmegmaWarrior0815 Apr 15, 2026 +9
That's even weirder than the guy in the giant chocolate bar on Bones.
9
Accomplished-Fix6598 Apr 16, 2026 +2
I miss that show.
2
PhantomNomad Apr 16, 2026 +7
Same with Brokenwood from NZ. That small town has more murders then New York city. I live in a small town in rural Alberta and we've had one murder in the last 20+ years. Same goes for 99% of the small towns in Canada.
7
judithishere Apr 16, 2026 +2
I like that show! Midsomer too. Non us murder mysteries are always more entertaining to me because they aren't all just gun related violence like so many American shows
2
PhantomNomad Apr 16, 2026 +3
I know what you mean. I think I've seen them have a firearm once or twice on Brokenwood.
3
judithishere Apr 16, 2026 +2
It's really different to watch UK cop shows because they rarely have or use guns.
2
nothisistheotherguy Apr 16, 2026 +3
> all the murders happen in a very tiny village This is practically a UK genre now
3
I_am_not_JohnLeClair Apr 16, 2026 +2
What about *Father Brown*? Kembleford is a really really dangerous place
2
UselessInsight Apr 16, 2026 +9
A lot but it’s mostly DUIs with some domestic violence and CSAM thrown in to truly rot your soul.
9
chogram Apr 16, 2026 +6
The real NCIS actually wrote an article about what they do, and how it differs from the show. https://www.ncis.navy.mil/Media/News/Article/4442092/is-tvs-ncis-like-the-real-ncis/
6
Navynuke00 Apr 15, 2026 +16
None like the shows portrays. In the fleet NCIS is there to launch witch hunts against active duty sailors and cover the asses of senior leadership. And especially not in places with no naval bases. Like, you know, New Orleans or Los Angeles.
16
MeatTornado25 Apr 16, 2026 +30
The fact that they put that first spinoff in LA when San Diego is right there will always blow my mind.
30
Navynuke00 Apr 16, 2026 +4
That STILL annoys me to no end.
4
timshel_life Apr 16, 2026 +5
They have 1,000 episodes across all the series. All they need to do now is put it all into ChatGPT, have it spit out a similar script in a new location.
5
Jitterjumper13 Apr 16, 2026 +1
More victims/murderers than service members.
1
SuicideSkwad Apr 15, 2026 +27
Why would they not just make him Dano in this?? Doesn’t make sense Scott is a new character especially when these two characters have interacted before
27
brilliant-trash22 Apr 15, 2026 +11
It’s really popular to have same actors play different characters: S. Epatha Merkerson played a mom in season 1 of Law & Order, then the actress became a lieutenant on the show in like season 4, then became a patient director in Chicago Med which is the same universe as Law & Order Katrina Law was also in Hawaii Five-O before becoming a different agent in NCIS
11
timshel_life Apr 16, 2026 +6
The ol' D*** Wolf special. Have a character go star in one of your new shows and confuse the audience.
6
clain4671 Apr 16, 2026 +2
d*** wolf is definitely the closest television has to how some directors have a posse who show up in every movie they make. oliver platt was the lead on a newspaper show he did years before chicago med, he's reused 2 leads from chicago med and PD on FBI spinoffs (nick gehlfuss and jesse lee soffer). he had dylan mcdermott play a long running villain on law and order before being the lead on another FBI spinoff, and jeremy sisto was a lead actor on both the original law and order and the main FBI show. I'm probably forgetting more but also i'm not counting the same character spinning off to another one.
2
icameinyourburrito Apr 16, 2026 +1
Jeremy Sisto went from playing a defense attorney in L&O's season 17 finale to one of the lead detectives in the season 18 premiere.
1
Shelton9223 4 days ago +1
Yeah but that’s no biggie when they have a brief appearance or only appear in like 7-8 episodes. It’s way different when they spend 10 seasons, over 220+ episodes, on a show, that’s set in your same universe. Especially when these two actors have interacted 2 separate times on crossovers. Like what’s the point. There was no other actor that could play a rogue agent? It would’ve been far more interesting if he was playing Danny. Plus why bother canceling NCIS LA just to bring one of the guys back in another show.
1
BLAGTIER Apr 16, 2026 +6
Whoever created his character on Hawaii Five-0 would need to be paid for every episode.

geodebug Apr 15, 2026 +29
There are a lot of aging rappers out there for future spinoffs.
29
hammnbubbly Apr 15, 2026 +31
Old people love them
31
HalfHourTillBrillig Apr 15, 2026 +4
the rappers or the procedurals?
4
Navynuke00 Apr 15, 2026 +1
Mostly the procedurals. Look at who's in power to get a sense of their feelings about rappers.
1
TuvixWillNotBeMissed Apr 16, 2026 +1
I mean if you're a washed up old rapper that stars on a show about how awesome cops are then other old folks will at least tolerate you.
1
AgentElman Apr 16, 2026 +1
Yes, those MAGA voters are the ones clamoring for shows starring LL Cool J.

Jirachibi1000 Apr 15, 2026 +18
Old people. My parents were in their mid/late 60s when they died a few years ago and this is literally the only thing they watched. "I dont like comedies. i dont like superhero stuff. i dont like horror. I dont like musicals. i like cops and cop shows and stuff related to that". For a huge % of my life the ONLY thin on TV ever in that house was CSI: Fill in the City, NCIS, Blue Bloods, Cops, Hawaii Five-O, etc. and if you ever changed the channel you got "UGH what is this c***" no matter what you put on lol.
18
BlueberryWasps Apr 15, 2026 +2
and let’s face it, old people are most of the traditional tv audience now. the stations save the youth-focused stuff for their streaming apps
2
idkbruh653 Apr 15, 2026 -4
Yep came here to say this. Between the law enforcement, public safety and tough cowboy/rancher Yellowstone spin off shows, they’re targeting boomers and MAGA with this c***. I hate subbing to Paramount+ but the only reason I keep it is Star Trek.
-4
sexandliquor Apr 15, 2026 -5
Exactly. Who is watching all this c***? My boomer ass dad for one thing. He loves all this shit. He could tell me what’s still currently going on with the original NCIS show after I long bounced off years ago because a lot of the original cast left ages ago. Half the time he ain’t watching, same as Gen Z ain’t watching most of what’s on Netflix, either. He does the same shit—looking at his phone while watching all these cop procedural shows. But he can follow along easy enough even not paying attention because they’re always summarizing everything up by each commercial break, and all these shows follow the same formula and have been for decades.
-5
GlamMetalLion Apr 15, 2026 +3
I miss decent procedurals that didn't make you feel like you were being force fed the bare minimum.
3
NoTitleChamp Apr 15, 2026 +3
Literally millions of people.
3
Levonorgestrelfairy1 Apr 15, 2026 +2
Its got the two most popular leads from the NCIS extended universe. This is going to be popular.
2

...and the closest naval base to New York is Groton, Connecticut.

Well we do have the Brooklyn Navy Yard, that is now an industrial complex. Maybe they just saw the name on a map
1
Hipster-Stalin Apr 16, 2026 +5
Can’t wait for the fleet week episode. “A sailor goes missing in a gay club and LL Cool J has to go undercover to get to the *bottom* of things”
5
AcademicDrag742 Apr 16, 2026 +5
Damn how many crimes are people in the Navy and Marine Corps committing for there to be 6 SPIN OFFS of NCIS(tbf NCIS is a spinoff of JAG so I could say 7).
5
PYTN Apr 17, 2026 +2
The only show I can think of that can top the ratio of imagined crimes to real crimes of NCIS is probably Psyche. Santa Barbara had to have one of the highest murder rates in history during Psyche's run.
2
ltmikepowell Apr 15, 2026 +7
Yesterday I noticed that Scott Caan and Alex O'Laughlin have birthdays one after the other. I do like the first few seasons of Hawaii Five-0. Same with NCIS:LA.
7
Lenonn Apr 15, 2026 +7
Hoping they actually film it in NYC, and no try to pass off L.A. as New York.

I think it specifically targeted for me. I liked Hawaii 5-0. And was obsessed with NCIS: LA. More background slop for meeeeee

-XanderCrews- Apr 16, 2026 +3
What is it? 2005?
3
NeilMcCauley88 Apr 15, 2026 +5
It's kinda weird they didn't just have Caan play Danny again. He was in the crossover they had.
5
brilliant-trash22 Apr 15, 2026

4
Toby_O_Notoby Apr 16, 2026 +5
I mean, there's also NCIS: Sydney where the US Navy has no presense. To be realistic they'd have to set it on the USN Australian Base of Exmouth, a town of 2,500 people whose [tourist attraction is a giant prawn.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exmouth,_Western_Australia#/media/File:The_Big_Prawn_in_Exmouth,_Western_Australia,_2024.jpg)
5
clain4671 Apr 16, 2026 +2
the funny thing about sydney is that they very quickly ran out of reasons for american sailors to wind up dead related to base activity so now theres just a weirdly large amount of american sailors living in australia.
2
Toby_O_Notoby Apr 17, 2026 +2
>so now theres just a weirdly large amount of american sailors living in australia All of whom presumably have a few of the Opera House from their apartments. (Sorry, never seen the show but I loved how they consatantly do that in shows like Lost.)

Nope. I’m just aware of general NYC history. And that the Brooklyn Navy Yard is now filled with art hipsters and light industrial. If anything, it should be NCIS: New Jersey.
2

Oh man conflicted feelings. Happy to give it another go but I wasn't a fan of LL in LA, didn't like him popping up in Hawaii, and am definitely not happy that he's the star of this one. Unless it's some banging TV (out of nowhere, because NCIS does not bang) I'll be passing on this
1
DildoTheSizeOfUranus Apr 17, 2026 +1
I'm just shocked that people still know who LL Cool J is.
1
confusedCI Apr 17, 2026 +1
CBS really just....SMH. I mean this you put on network, Tony & Ziva on streaming? And I wasn't even looking for that spin off. But it made no sense to put it on streaming. The fans, the audience for that pairing, the target demo, was NEVAH going to download and pay for Paramount+ if they didn't have it already. And on top of it, when you could have aired it on broadcast as filler for the summer or on weekends you didn't do that. It's almost like they wanted it to fail. I'm not mad because I cared. I'm mad, because it was a waste of time and resources and it's like why did you bother. I'm happy to see LL working because I luv and know him as a rapper and I'm happy he has had this successful 2nd act but I'm wondering if this will film in NYC or in LA. if they're filming in LA, I'm less happy. I don't like Scot Caan as co-star. I will not be getting into that.

I hate this. Why get an actor that’s been in your universe for 10 yrs?? Why? That makes zero sense. All of the NCIS shows, Magyver, Magnum PI reboot, and Hawaii Five O are all set in the same universe. SMH now I can understand if it was some small role like when the actress that plays Knight also played in Hawaii Five 0. But she was only in like 6-7 episodes. Thats very different than 200+ episodes over 10 seasons. That’s like bringing Michael Weatherly and having him be a totally new character instead of Tony Dinozzo. And having Sam Hanna in it as well? What was the point of canceling NCIS: LA than if you were just gonna bring back the character for another show?

It's 2026 and network TV is still feeding boomers NCIS shows.

And why wouldn't they? Are you going to start watching network TV in primetime?

Really thought the next NCIS was going to be set in Des Moines.

CBS whitewashes the genocide of thousands while their audience self righteously cheers on heroes solving murders of fictional characters one by one. If you took every procedural from every murder solved for the past twenty years, I asked Gemini this question and they said 4,000 to 5,000 over all shows. So their audience watches the solving of meaningless cases, while the network ignores any coverage of what actually happens in the real world

Did NCIS LA get canceled? Wonder how LL's former partner from that show feels.

More people watch 1 episode of NCIS than most of the popular shows on this sub.

Sorry, I think I got the acronym wrong. Meaning Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

This would be NCIS’ 8th show, or JAG’s 9th
