They’re only halfway through with the investigation.

If you think about it, any staff who work at a foreign embassy who *aren't* helping to spy are basically just a waste of a s***. Typical russian inefficiency - you know the US embassies are going to be 100% spies minus the ambassador, their family and direct assistant.s

I thought that was the unspoken assumption of all embassies

Russian embassies are simply spy hubs.

All embassies are, their core purpose is to get close to government officials, wine, dine. Lobby, gather information, sentiment and report back.... What do you think an embassy is?

Absolutely… consulates are specifically intelligence gathering hubs. I feel like people on Listnook live in this la la land. If you meet someone that is attached at an embassy or consulate, you better believe they intelligence gatherer and process a few visas and passports in their free time as cover….

Somebody has never heard about diplomacy... But it's a dying art anyway.

Usually I ride my bike past the Russian embassy in Budapest every workday. About one or two weeks ago I saw a lot of movement there, lots of army people as well (until then I didn't even know that the embassy was there, but then I saw the flags on their uniforms). They are probably also preparing for the upcoming elections.

Imagine just trying to process basic visa paperwork while the guy in the next cubicle is out here running full-blown espionage ops.

Answers phone. "Yes Humming Bird, This is Blue Sparrow. Ah hem, your visa application is done. The frog swims silently under the moon. Over"

You mean Orban’s reelection campaign?

Such_Difference_2248 Apr 9, 2026 +2
Isn't that normal? I mean, sure, Orban is Putin's lapdog, but an embassy staff composed of spies isn't extraordinary.

I don't think there are links to any kind of intelligence there right now.
