Planning to poison Jewish children while dressed as Santa Claus sounds so cartoonishly evil that if this wasnt a real case people would probably say it was exaggerated propaganda. Thats the scary part. Before the internet someone with those beliefs might have just been an isolated angry person in one town.
Now they can instantly find thousands of people reinforcing the same paranoia and hatred 24 hours a day until extreme ideas start feeling normal to them. A lot of these groups basically radicalise each other in public.
