That was so weird when that happened lol

Coolman_Rosso Mar 20, 2026 +12
FWIW, it was originally planned for FX

I only watched one episode I think and I just remember Splooge from Breaking Bad being in it lmao.

Dalmahr Mar 20, 2026 +6
I'm one of the few people who liked that show I think

I liked it a lot.

I miss when Sony used to take big swings like that.

Me too!

I liked that show. And watched it on my PlayStation 😂

Is Powers even a good enough comic to warrant 1 adaptation, let alone 2. I really like Sharlto Copley but the live action was hot garbage. Only good part was that teleporting guy.

Zomburai Mar 20, 2026 +46
Powers is plenty good enough to make a good adaptation. The Sharlto adaptation wasn't a great adaptation, but much worse than that, it wasn't a good show.

I remember watching it when it came out, but like, I recall d*** diddly f*** all about anything that went on.

JordanDoesTV Mar 20, 2026 +6
I truly just had like a war flash back because I erased this from my memory entirely
6
ButtersTheChill Mar 20, 2026 +2
Literally the only 2 things I remember were Eddie Izzard being chained up and that teleporting dude's voice sounding like he'd been smoking since birth.

I just remember I think two dudes floating or fluting screaming in each others face 😂 like I watched this whole series and it’s just gone

It proved one valuable lesson for Sony however... not to get into the streaming wars.

I kinda liked it for what it was. Not saying it was great, it was just entertaining enough to keep me watching. Though, now that I think about it, I don’t remember a lot about it other than, Kinda…… Kinda liking it.

no_fucking_point Mar 20, 2026 +2
And they had a relatively shit budget at the time too.

pixillateme Mar 20, 2026 +13
It is. It has been in print, on and off, for now 25 years. It just started up again under the title 'Powers 25' with a new cast and a time jump to present-day. Both the series and its creators are influential. It seems like an obvious choice for a TV adaptation. The Playstation show was done at a time when people didn't seem to know how to do adaptations correctly. Now, I think they can get it right. And if the animation can look like Oeming's art style that would be a huge plus. In a world where an animated Invincible show can hit it big, I think the same can happen with Powers.

Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: Yes. It's subject matter has been treaded pretty good now. I do think the angle of non powered police just doing their jobs in a world of superheroes and villains is pretty compelling. How easy is it to do you job when the bad guy can punch you through a brick wall or shrug off bullets? Think of the game Dispatch but as a comic.

Earthpig_Johnson Mar 20, 2026 +8
It’s a pretty good comic that could definitely make a good cartoon. I lost interest in the show as soon as I saw a trailer.

chuccles3 Mar 21, 2026 +3
I never heard of powers before the live action but I loved that show, it definitely deserves a shot
3
sepam Mar 20, 2026 +3
I read the first two volumes of the comic 20 years ago and they were pretty good. It should have gotten more love than it did. I’m not sure they hold up well though. Unfortunately the show sucked. I’ll give the cartoon a try but I don’t have high hopes.

sixtus_clegane119 Mar 20, 2026 +2
Noah Taylor and Eddie Izzard were the best part
2
we_are_sex_bobomb Mar 20, 2026 +1
I think the problem is more than the “what if superheroes, but *real*?!?!” trope is a little overplayed right now and probably needs to hibernate for a while.

PornoPaul Mar 21, 2026 +4
Is this the one where one character used to have superpowers? Its funny, my buddy and I were just discussing how in a world full of superpowers and superpowered people, there would surely be some people with powers who would still just go to a regular boring job, or at least market their powers in a certain way. Like maybe Laser Eye Man instead of fighting crime, gets into business doing high precision welding.

Mr_Wh0ever Mar 20, 2026 +11
That's weird, I still have a faint memory of the live action show. It wasn't that good. There are plenty of other indie superhero comics that deserve a proper adaptation.

Jet-Let4606 Mar 20, 2026 +6
Like? (Genuinely asking.)
6
Dapper_Ad_6501 Mar 20, 2026 +8
Irredeemable The plutonian (their omni man) goes hard

Jet-Let4606 Mar 21, 2026
Good pick. I had forgotton all about that.

Irredeemable/Incorruptible, The Black Hammer, Radiant Black (Massiveverse), The Shadow/ Doc Savgae.
4
Jet-Let4606 Mar 21, 2026 +2
I have read Irredeemable/Incorruptible and am familiar The Shadow and Doc Savage. Not familar with Black Hammer and Radiant Black.
2
Mr_Wh0ever Mar 21, 2026 +3
Black Hammer has a dope premise. It's kinda like Lost/Twin Peaks. And Radiant Black is essentially a modern day Invincible. There's other series like Rogue Sun that exist in the same universe.

Ok. That would be amazing.

Oh, I actually enjoyed the live action show and was annoyed that it ended season 2 with a reveal teaser that never went anywhere.

Powers absolutely deserves a proper adaptation.

Woah just had a flash back yo this comic and show maybe by sony right
2

Yes but live action

I liked the live action for what it was so I am inteested to see what comss out of this.

Talentagentfriend Mar 20, 2026 +7
When the comics were coming out it seemed like another version of the Boys. For a long time I thought they were the same thing.
7
sepam Mar 20, 2026 +15
Powers was out and had multiple volumes before the Boys was released. Then it took a long inconstant hiatus during the Boys early good run.
15
wyttearp Mar 20, 2026 +9
Powers started in 2000, The Boys started in 2006.

dilldoeorg Mar 20, 2026 +5
the live action sucked balls. wonder how netflix will f*** it up now.
5
MangerStrangerDanger Mar 20, 2026
By hiring the writer of the comic who also did the show that sucks balls, when the show needs a proper re-examination and vision…

>Combining the tropes of the superhero genre with the police procedural genre Pass

Morgan-Moonscar Mar 20, 2026 +17
Some of the best series utilize this concept. Gotham Central Top Ten
17
Cloud974 Mar 20, 2026 +4
top ten is great - such a mix of stuff
4
sepam Mar 20, 2026 +7
Don’t forget about shows like Gotham, Lucifer, Human Target, and iZombie. All had some success.
7
Morgan-Moonscar Mar 20, 2026 +7
Three of those were based on comic series that had nothing whatsoever to do with cops though. They were turned into police procedurals.
7
sepam Mar 20, 2026 +3
And? Powers is going to be a show. These were shows. I’m confused. Edit: rereading my response I sound like an ass. I’m genuinely asking the question though. What point are you trying to make? I missed it.
3
Morgan-Moonscar Mar 20, 2026 +3
Some of the best comics *intentionally* about police procedurals in a superhero/comicbook universe. iZombie, Human Target and LUCIFER especially were completely different comics that were transformed into procedurals.
3
sepam Mar 20, 2026 +1
The commenter was talking about skipping a show because it was super heroes trope / police procedural. I thought it would be helpful to provide shows with a similar format regardless of the source material. Sorry for misreading the situation.
1
pixillateme Mar 20, 2026 +6
That's like saying the Invincible cartoon is just more cape shit so it's an easy skip. I don't think Powers can be called procedural, because so many of its stories are big and impactful.

VariationUpper2009 Mar 20, 2026 +1
Let me know when they decide to adapt Super Powereds by Drew Hayes.

Rosebunse Mar 21, 2026 +1
Oh Bendis dialogue, my friend, my foe. How I have missed you.

The PlayStation Network exclusive tv show they unveiled in the middle of E3??

Uncle_Bug_Music Mar 20, 2026 -2
Yes! We need more super powered heroes solving complex socioeconomic and mental health issues by punching the individuals involved.
-2
TheJedibugs Mar 21, 2026 +5
Tell me you never read Powers without telling me you never read Powers.
5
Uncle_Bug_Music Mar 21, 2026 +5
I'm not sure how I can tell you that now. You've made it very tricky.
5
TheJedibugs Mar 21, 2026 +2
Okay, you won me back. That’s a great reply to the tired trope I threw at you.
2
Uncle_Bug_Music Mar 21, 2026 +1
I obviously haven't but it sounds like I either should or wait for the animated series! Thanks for calling me out as I would have just wandered off after making another in a long line of baseless uninformed comments like the Johnny Appleseed of Ignorance!
1
TheJedibugs Mar 21, 2026 +3
It’s not a superhero book… it’s a police procedural that follows the police unit that investigates Superhero-related crime, starting off with an investigation into the murder of a much-loved super-heroine. That’s the surface-level summary, but there are layers of mystery and intrigue, as well. It’s the book that got me back into reading comics after a decade-long hiatus. It’s really good.
