Netflix choose to cancel movie project rather than recast lead - I think is a more accurate headline
2056
Tbplayer59 Apr 10, 2026 +282
I thought the lead sentence was referring to two different movies. She drops out of one movie, so Netflix cancels another, like it out of revenge.
282
BelievableToadstool Apr 11, 2026 +74
Same! It’s a bad title very unclear
74
Sunshine030209 Apr 11, 2026 +47
I didn't realize that *isn't* what it meant until your comment
47
agentofmidgard Apr 10, 2026 +325
What they should've done with the Witcher series
325
The_Lapsed_Pacifist Apr 10, 2026 +305
That’s not what they should have done with The Witcher. They should have fired the idiot writers and hauled it back on course with Cavill still in the lead.
305
PetyrDayne Apr 10, 2026 +73
The only thing wrong with that is that it makes logical sense.
73
Salvage570 Apr 11, 2026 +8
It was pretty fucked from there from the start anyway. The shows really bad but they also pretty much adapted all the good stuff in season 1 lol
8
EggsAndRice7171 Apr 11, 2026 +49
The problem with the Witcher was the writers didn’t like the source books nearly as much as Henry Cavil and decided to let him walk because of creative differences. They honestly aren’t nearly as great books as the games are great games but they’re still really interesting and I don’t see how you throw out a superstar and talented actor like Henry Cavil and replace him with a very *fine* actor like Liam Hemsworth because he’s more interesting in making a faithful show than you are. It’s practically your job and your star cares more. Embarrassing.
49
Kitnado Apr 11, 2026 +5
The games are among the best of all time and the books are super mid. I always like to call them male smut. But yeah, I’ll die on the hill of faithful to source material for anything
5
Ashamed-Status-9668 Apr 10, 2026 +34
Maybe they learned.
34
ResonableVillain Apr 10, 2026 +14
Where's the money in that? PS: Liam did better than expected.
14
gooby1985 Apr 10, 2026 +19
I am here to say that Liam was better than expected and that season 4 was, to me, better than 3. Maybe 3 was so poorly written but still.
19
Dragon_yum Apr 11, 2026 +4
I stopped watching the Witcher after season 2, it was bad because of bad production and writing. From all I heard Liam does a good job at the role but that series had major issues way before him.
4
Deckard_Red Apr 10, 2026 +3
Ha, that made be laugh out loud 🤣
3
annaos67 Apr 10, 2026 +50
She wasn't the first person cast in the role. Thomasin McKenzie was set to star in this a couple of years back. Seems to be a problem with the project itself.
50
larsVonTrier92 Apr 11, 2026 +5
And Olivia Wilde was going to direct it after don't Worry Darling but the failure of that one killed his version.
5
mcon96 Apr 10, 2026 +21
Please don’t inject facts into the blind Netflix hate
21
sumpfbruderschaft Apr 11, 2026 +1
Wait...this ist not Millie Bobby Brown hate?
1
Deckard_Red Apr 10, 2026 +8
So you’re saying it’s cursed
8
_emma_stoned_ Apr 10, 2026 +31
She was also a producer on it.
31
Deckard_Red Apr 10, 2026 +19
The plot thickens, though often producer credits (more often exec) is just a different way of receiving payment for a project. If she put money in though that is odd.
19
The_R4ke Apr 11, 2026 +3
Yeah, that's honestly not that crazy.
3
Tempest_Fugit Apr 11, 2026 +1
Well wasn’t she producing it too
1
Charming_Lemon6463 Apr 11, 2026 +1
Yes this is the reason
1
Commercial_End_2351 Apr 10, 2026 +630
It seems that Millie Bobby Brown was also a producer on the film, which may be why Netflix chose to just drop it instead of recasting her.
630
argparg Apr 10, 2026 +227
Right!!! Did you see the ‘action’ sequence of her training in the latest season of stranger things? It’s ridiculous. I didn’t release you needed athletic ability to run until I saw that
227
BaxTheDestroyer Apr 10, 2026 +60
Steven Seagal taught us this lesson in the 90s.
60
mojitojenkins Apr 10, 2026 +121
My family laughed at this sequence so I know exactly what you're talking about
121
OShaunesssy Apr 10, 2026 +30
I've seen Stranger Things and I dont know what your talking about lol
30
Mentoman72 Apr 10, 2026 +82
She’s running a training course with Hopper at the beginning of season 5.
82
Objective_Toe_49 Apr 10, 2026 +103
She looks like it’s an aliens first day on earth and someone explained to her how to run 30 minutes before filming.
103
Greedy-Pilot-4538 Apr 10, 2026 +9
Ok I gotta check that out

burfriedos Apr 11, 2026 +33
That’s way less embarrassing than I expected.
33
smothered-onion Apr 11, 2026 +12
No kidding. The amount of people I see running around town with their arms flopping and flailing too. (Pretend you are eating potato chips as you run, lest you waste energy flapping) I think she looks fine.
12
burfriedos Apr 11, 2026 +2
Yeah, it’s not exactly Raheem Sterling running like a tyrannosaurus and he’s a pro footballer
2
IPissExcellentThrows Apr 11, 2026 +4
After Arsenal's loss, I'm in other threads avoiding them and I get a Raheem Sterling reference with no trigger warning. Brutal man.
4
smothered-onion Apr 11, 2026 +1
Ok now that was interesting. At first I thought, he only did it as defenders got close. (Novel way to avoid getting caught up). Then I read his mom who was a Jamaican track star ran like that. While you lose momentum with the former….perhaps it really is low to the body or potato chip style for optimal performance. Ima have to test this
1
frolfer757 Apr 10, 2026 +51
I literally can't see anything weird with it.
51
Due-Joke-1152 Apr 10, 2026 +37
Yeah, I’m with you. Seems like a weird anti-Millie pivot. Edit: The hyperbole posters are arriving. I was confused at the sentiment, I wasn’t asking for multiple subjective opinions trying to push the same narrative.
37
Objective_Toe_49 Apr 10, 2026 +27
What reason is there to be anti Millie? She just can’t run there’s nothing deeper to it lol
27
Think_Addendum7138 Apr 11, 2026 +6
Just here to say I thought her performance in season 5 was the least athletic thing I’ve ever seen Hollywood try to pull off
6
Due-Joke-1152 Apr 11, 2026 +1
Interesting. What’s the sample size?
1
boston4923 Apr 11, 2026 +2
Lmao come on. The person above is spot on. It’s the least athletic display I’ve ever seen. Even as an actor, not an athlete, she should be able to ACT like an athlete for a single scene.
2
Due-Joke-1152 Apr 11, 2026
Oh! Are you qualified in Physical Education? Please tell me more, it’s been awhile since I studied but I’d be interested in a more up to date take.
0
IPissExcellentThrows Apr 11, 2026 +2
Didn't think I'd ever see a gym teacher brag about their education lmao.
2
Due-Joke-1152 Apr 11, 2026 +1
I never said I was a gym teacher, but they’d be qualified to have an opinion on someone’s athletics, right?
1
StarkTheGnnr Apr 12, 2026 +1
Fun fact, contrary to popular belief, the reason actors look weird while running on TV is not because they are not athletic. It's because they have to pretend they are running at their maximum speed but they can't actually do that in these scenes because of camera and set limitations!
1
IPissExcellentThrows Apr 11, 2026 +1
She looks super unathletic and unnatural. Kinda runs like an old person. Probably not worth this thread, but it's definitely weird.
1
CommunalJellyRoll Apr 11, 2026 +1
It looks like a out of shape person running a course
1
argparg Apr 10, 2026 +24
It’s so bad! lol
24
OilCanBoyd426 Apr 10, 2026 +8
I think that is like 90% stunt double
8
Due-Joke-1152 Apr 10, 2026 +2
We’ve been using doubles for action sequences for decades?
2
OilCanBoyd426 Apr 10, 2026 +18
The point is she is getting slayed for running like a turd sandwich but it looks like the stunt double runs like a turd sandwich
18
Due-Joke-1152 Apr 10, 2026 +4
I thought it matched the 80's vibe of the show.

Coolbluegatoradeyumm Apr 11, 2026 +3
She has the athletic ability of a potato. So seeing her be a gymnast in any capacity doesn’t really do it for me.
3
Commercial_End_2351 Apr 10, 2026
I’ve never seen stranger things, so I don’t know what you are talking about.
0
Due-Joke-1152 Apr 10, 2026 +2
I just watched it, I don’t understand what you mean.
2
appswithasideofbooty Apr 10, 2026 +6
Her “training” sequence is laughable, she’s clearly incredibly unathletic
6
AffectionateSwan5129 Apr 10, 2026 +39
How she’s already a producer when all she’s done is child acting in stranger things is insane really
39
KyanRainden Apr 10, 2026 +56
Money mah friend... and connections. She better not ruin her Netlix connections... or there goes whatever career she has...

This comment implies you thought she looked better younger and that’s gross.
1
Smart_Ass_Dave Apr 10, 2026 +45
She was the breakout star of what was arguably Netflix's most successful show ever so she signed a deal to produce several films with Netflix. She currently has 4 released films on Netflix and 2 that have finished filming. Plus she was in two Godzilla films. She's been famous for a decade, and to be clear Stranger Things was not her first role, just her break out role. That she is young is unusual, but it's only because she got an early start.
45
Niolle Apr 11, 2026 +7
Most successful - most viewed - TV show on Netflix is Squid Games, then Wednesday, then Adolescence, and after them Stranger Things.
7
Smart_Ass_Dave Apr 11, 2026 +6
That's all fair, but I wonder if that was true when she signed her 6(7?) picture contract that was clearly about locking her in for Stranger Things.
6
rilex1905 Apr 11, 2026 +8
It wasn't. None of the above started showing before 2020s, when Stranger Things was already 3 seasons in.
8
Potato271 Apr 11, 2026 +3
The Enola Homes films were good too. I'm nowhere near the target demographic and I enjoyed them
3
Smart_Ass_Dave Apr 11, 2026 +1
My wife and I enjoyed both, ya.
1
BornFree2018 Apr 10, 2026 +12
I think she bought the property/story to star in herself.
12
userhwon Apr 10, 2026 +7
That isn't the only thing she's done. And if she's got money and connections can afford to develop ideas to the point that studios will greenlight production, then that's going to happen. It's how Jared Leto got Tron: Ares made.
7
Packwood88 Apr 10, 2026 +10
She also did enola holmes 1 and 2 and some movie with chris pratt at least.
10
mondaymoderate Apr 11, 2026 +5
Hey that’s not just some movie with Chris Pratt that movie cost $320 million dollars to make! What’s it called again?
5
ydktbh Apr 10, 2026 +7
just cos you only know her from stranger things doesn't mean that's the only thing she's done
7
Ancient-Tip5498 Apr 10, 2026 +19
She’s done a lot more than stranger things? And you only need one thing to be a producer, and she has a lot of it. Edit: It was very early when I posted this, my first sentence was meant as a statement, not a question.
19
AffectionateSwan5129 Apr 10, 2026 +6
She got another Netflix movie which was child Sherlock Holmes? What else has she done that’s been main stream - out of interest
6
Foreign_Rock6944 Apr 10, 2026 +5
She was also the lead in that Damsel movie. Also a Netflix movie.
5
rational_industrious Apr 10, 2026 +7
She was in the Godzilla movies
7
InevitableBad589 Apr 10, 2026 +2
Easy to forget since the humans in those movies are always so forgettable.
2
mcon96 Apr 10, 2026 +4
Except for Godzilla Minus One. Which is partly why it’s so much better than the American movies.
4
TimeSlipperWHOOPS Apr 10, 2026 +4
Do you think producers must be actors first? Like it's some sort of.... promotion,
4
AffectionateSwan5129 Apr 10, 2026 +5
No.. but how many 20 year olds are producers?
5
aliens-the-musical Apr 10, 2026 +8
How many 20 year olds marry a Bon Jovi as well
8
TimeSlipperWHOOPS Apr 10, 2026 +14
How many 20 year olds are worth 20+ million and have been in the industry for the last 13 years?
14
JalapenoPopPoop Apr 10, 2026 +2
Netflix can't rely on the quality and merit of the movies they make so they get by on adding marquee names. MBB is one of their staple actors for this so I could see them just saying "yeah sure you can have a producer credit" to keep her around and attached to projects that they know will fall flat on their face without a recognizable name attached. I know people are implying it's cause she's rich and just forked over cash but she doesn't have movie producer money. There's a reason you normally only see established star level actors having production companies. Her net worth is less than an average NBA player makes in one season, she's not out here playing movie financier, it's a perk credit
2
idontloveanyone Apr 10, 2026 +1
What does being a producer mean?
1
Harold_v3 Apr 10, 2026 +1
They usually put the main actors on as producers so they can make say hey we are shooting to much and need to take a break and it has some weight. Source: I know some actors who get producer roles to help make sure that the actors have an advocate in the decision making process.
1
tfresca Apr 10, 2026 +1
The Sherlock Holmes sister movie was a hit for Netflix.
1
theseriousman1 Apr 10, 2026 +2
I think the creative differences were the director wanted someone who could act
2
mcfw31 Apr 10, 2026 +150
> Netflix’s Olympic gymnastics drama “Perfect” is no longer moving ahead at the streamer after Millie Bobby Brown exited the project due to creative differences, sources have confirmed. > Brown was set to star as Kerri Strug, a member of the 1996 “Magnificent Seven” USA gymnastics team with Gia Coppola directing and Ronnie Sandahl as screenwriter.
150
Perfect-Marketing576 Apr 10, 2026 +242
I don’t mean this is a crappy way whatsoever but between her physique and how I’ve seen her body move while performing athletic movements… this has to be for the best. Just saying I think it’s a bad cast and idk how it ever even got this far.
242
save_the_bees_knees Apr 10, 2026 +12
They would have used a body double for probably like 90% of the film. (Or more realistically any time the gymnast uniform was on) That would have been a lot of vfx face replacements.
12
Perfect-Marketing576 Apr 10, 2026 +10
Exactly. At that point… get a different actor. You could get a lot close to 40/60 to even 50/50 depending on the difficulty. I just think there are more graceful actors that could fill the role.
10
Alarmed-Grape-3669 Apr 10, 2026 +40
Yea even Tom Holland could play it better.
40
Zealousideal-Cut4232 Apr 10, 2026 +56
Even? That dude actually went to a performing arts school and does have a history in dancing. Like ballet.
56
deathcabscutie Apr 10, 2026 +26
I think they said “even Tom” because the role is Kerri Strug, who is female. Tom can do drag, but not that believably
26
Particular_Table9263 Apr 11, 2026 +6
You can’t tell me that wasn’t Rihanna performing Umbrella. I believe in Tom’s chops.
6

I sure hope so.

She can barely run going by last stranger things season
29
mikezer0 Apr 10, 2026 +50
I guarantee she was not willing to put in the physical work which was probably not as much as it should have been to begin with. You are absolutely right she moves like someone who has never worked out a day in their life.
50
roguerunner1 Apr 10, 2026 +21
She seems to have the motor skills of a three hour old giraffe. Like she can do everything, but is just mildly gangly and uncoordinated enough to be noticeable.
21
WeakTransportation37 Apr 10, 2026 +14
Yeah, Keri strugg is 4’8”, typical gymnast build, etc— MBB is kinda the opposite of that
14
hibikikun Apr 10, 2026 +2
Are people expecting her to do the actual gymnastics performances?
2
Perfect-Marketing576 Apr 10, 2026 +19
For easy of production, yes, it would be expected of her to do some light gymnastic movements on camera. Otherwise it’s purely doubles and FX to the point she shouldn’t even be there.
19
mikezer0 Apr 10, 2026 +16
I expect her to get in legit amazing shape and do like a cartwheel or something yeah. That’s about it. That’s not a high bar. It kinda used to be the norm even depending on the role.
16
iliaccrestv Apr 10, 2026 +26
What, Kerri?! That is the worst casting I've seen in a while
26
userhwon Apr 10, 2026 +2
Eh...looking at pictures, if there wasn't any stunt-work involved, it's passable. But with the stunts? Or like any even mildly athletic performing involved? Was it going it be animated?
2
MVIVN Apr 11, 2026 +37
> At 18 years old, Strug helped her team win the gold medal after she performing the vault on an injured ankle. Well, with typos like that at least we know Variety isn’t using AI to write their articles.

Netflix drops Gia Coppola’s Perfect
109
read-more2025 Apr 10, 2026 +24
Gia Coppola had already left the project when Netflix dropped it. Olivia Wilde was supposed to direct that for Searchlight circa 2022.
24
Prestigious_Step4337 Apr 10, 2026 +38
A lot if missing information in that article. Kerri should never have performed that vault. The passive voice “coach carried her”? Is none other than Bela Karolyi, who, along with his wife, ran The Ranch. It was the premiere training camp for gymnastics. It’s also where sexual abuser Larry Nassar abused the gymnasts. For years.
38
Sweetbrain306 Apr 11, 2026 +7
Yes. Looking back on that event now is different and not in a good way.
7
Every_Tangerine_5412 Apr 12, 2026 +3
Exactly. Larry was also one of the people who helped Kerri off the mat after that last vault. He was the 1996 team doctor. What was "bravery" in 1996 was really an abused, starved young adult doing something reckless both to appease her abusers who were yelling at her that she "can do it" and as a result of a decade of brainwashing to ignore pain/sacrifice yourself for the sport. We didn't even need her to vault and the US still would have won (although that wasn't known at the time). Her injury was so severe that she never vaulted again. That was her last ever vault we saw. No one seems to ever mention that. I hope the creative differences were about how to portray this poor decision - one that was lauded in 1996 but through 2026 eyes was a product of horrific abuse. This movie would have worked in 1998, but not now. Also most Gen Z/Alpha have no clue who she is.

Prestigious_Step4337 Apr 12, 2026 +1
This is an excellent post and 100% agree

I get a real sense she'll be about as relevant ten years from now as Taylor Lautner was ten years after the Twilight movies.

Nice we ll get a good kidnapping movie before she totally fades away

Anyone with an ounce of sense could see that. Same with a lot of those Game of Thrones actors.
8
[deleted] Apr 10, 2026 +105
She's got the acting range of a plank of wood. Netflix should see this as a win.
105
Mister_Green2021 Apr 10, 2026 +50
To be fair, the botox made her none expressive.
50
InevitableBad589 Apr 10, 2026 +28
Pretty much. She's terrible and as soon as Netflix tires of her, there goes her career.
28
Griffdude13 Apr 10, 2026 +9
She’s great in the Enola Holmes movies. Y’all need to chill with these “absolute” opinions.
9
machine4891 Apr 10, 2026 +33
"Great" is almost as big exaggeration as the one you replied to. It was a decent role at the very best, completely overshadowed by Henry Cavill who is not that great of an actor either but has some charisma.
33
Silneit Apr 11, 2026 +1
Eh, Cavill has a niche of "bad range and always orbits the same core persona", but he *can* act. Gosling, Statham, Michael Cera, and Liam Neeson are all this. They don't really break from the one personality type, but I think that's fine if you can give a solid performance as that one. It helps that it's pretty evergreen for the roles that come out in movies. Sometimes you get one of these people who looks like they can only do this one range, then they pull a Brian Cranston or Leslie Nielsen and knock something unexpected out of the park. In comparison, an actor like the Rock both is unconvincing and has no range, so I personally perpetually avoid his movies. Millie is similar.
1
Fuzzy-Butterscotch86 Apr 11, 2026 +9
Seems like a bullet dodged.  Strugg was 18 when she won, and she looked like an 11 year old. Brown is 22 and looks like a 40 year old trying to look like a 20 year old with middle tier plastic surgery.  I don't think i could sit through that movie without focusing on how miscast she was. She's be more believable as Kerri's mom.
9
Glittering_Habit_161 Apr 12, 2026 +2
Does Millie still need to be hated for how she chose to look at one of the Electric State premieres from a year ago?
2
Last_Replacement_386 Apr 11, 2026 +7
Were the creative differences that they wanted her to act better?

27
Electro-Grunge Apr 10, 2026 +17
Netflix dropped the movie, she exited
17
PlusSizeRussianModel Apr 10, 2026 +7
Movies are packaged around the star. This movie was getting made because Brown was packaged with it. She’s exited the film, so it’s now dead.
7
Talqazar Apr 11, 2026 +3
The director had quit last month, and the project has had a few lead actresses and directors quit. So Netflix probably concluded it's not worth pursuing
3

I just came to say i wasn't going to watch it anyway......that is all.
5

I feel like she's one of those child actors who got way too much praise early on for a breakout role because season 1 of Stranger Things was good and she let it get to her head so much that she doesn't realize what a one hit wonder she is and acts entitled thinking she's some kind of creative genius now.

I can see her quit acting in couple of years after couple more netflix flops she'll probably gonna be one of those make up brands.

Man she's already headed for plastic surgery mutilation. She's got image issues which is very unfortunate

I’m 210% sure this was over her NOT being able to place her products all over the film.

Hey, it's her life. She ain't gonna live forever, maybe she just wants to live while she's alive.

No loss - this person can not act

boots_the_barbarian Apr 11, 2026 +2
What was the creative difference? That they were expecting her to act and emote?

I’m not trying to be a hater but that thumbnail does not look like a 22 year old

InevitableBad589 Apr 10, 2026 +10
Looks at least 10 years older than that, right?

WorkerOk9794 Apr 10, 2026 +3
What’s wrong with her face?

userhwon Apr 10, 2026 +2
Lots of makeup, a new haircut, and it's a still from some sort of posedown situation on a red carpet somewhere, so she could be talking, smiling, sniffling, coughing, etc., and all the cameras will catch every weird transitional movement at some point, and this is just the one someone attached to this story.

That’s a lot of text to sidestep the plastic surgery.

Niolle Apr 11, 2026 +7

You got to love when a post about a pretty regular production happenstance triggers loads of comments about MBB body and physical appearance. F****** losers.
