Didn't they just get like 3 billion dollars
332
tyleritis Mar 26, 2026 +153
That must be enough for 6 new shows to cancel
153
No-Stranger2936 Mar 26, 2026 +24
At least three of those will be spinoffs of other shows nobody wants.
24
frolie0 Mar 26, 2026 +24
It's simple math, clearly the didn't see a big dip in subscriberss since the last hike (or any of them for that matter). Basically, as long as 10-20% (depending on pricing tier) don't cancel, which will never happen feom these small hikes, they come out ahead.
24
Cyrano_Knows Mar 26, 2026 +4
Pretty sure corporate suits get quarterly bonuses. Need to pump those numbers up to get the next one.
4
frolie0 Mar 26, 2026 +3
They do not. But generally raising the stock price obviously benefits them greatly.
3
downsly46 Mar 26, 2026 +12
That was just for executive bonuses. Now back to business as usual
12
HeronFew990 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Actually this increase is for Trump's cut of the profits. The next increase has been earmarked for the executives.
3
Flashy_Jello_9520 Mar 26, 2026 +3
And laid off a f*** ton of people.
3
TeslasAndComicbooks Mar 27, 2026 +1
They spend like $17 billion on content annually. Thats peanuts.
1
Biggle_fuzz Mar 26, 2026 +215
And they will keep raising them until people start leaving in meaningful numbers.
215
No-Stranger2936 Mar 26, 2026 +29
If we believe stuff like the internet, or on the internet, is equally as addictive as, say, substance use, when does it become enough? Maybe around recession time in the next couple of years, people will consider it.
29
Large-Produce5682 Mar 26, 2026 +11
When everyone's pockets look like rabbit ears. 🐰
11
chief_yETI Mar 26, 2026 +15
not gonna happen in this era of brain rot and record low dopamine levels
15
mihirmusprime Mar 26, 2026 +5
Remember when people on reddit were saying they were going to cancel Netflix that one time they added the ad tier and they were excited to see them lose subscribers, but then the opposite happened lmao.
5
Bobclobb Mar 27, 2026 +5
I mean I did cancel mine years ago, whenever they raised rates and started cracking down on sharing. I don’t understand why people are paying for streaming services.
5
Risperidone- Mar 26, 2026 +3
Yes lolll like when they claimed they would leave Reddit with the API stuff
3
a_london_werewolf Mar 27, 2026 +1
Just cancelled my Premium Plan membership a moment ago. I had been a member of some sort since the days of DVDs in the mail. Bye.
1
thanosthumb Mar 27, 2026 +1
Everything is on streaming now. I’d rather pay for this and a handful of other services than cable. Cable is far worse and more expensive.
1
FireZord25 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Only gonna happen if what the Courts are doing with social media like facebook and youtube expands the same for other entertainments.
1
Risperidone- Mar 26, 2026
Lol people always claim they will unsuscribe, then always come back when their favourite show is on. It’s just words.
0
csortland Mar 26, 2026 -1
They will still increase them after. Lay offs and cost cutting will make up the difference.
-1
CallmeKahn Mar 26, 2026 +91
Why would I pay more money for a shrinking catalog?
91
CloakOfElvenkind Mar 26, 2026 +16
I left when every other option became dubbed or subtitled. Don't understand why so many people think Netflix is just one of those automatic bills one has to pay.
16
pumpkinspicecum Mar 26, 2026 +5
Their subtitles are always wrong
5
Scootshae Mar 26, 2026 +7
I cannot stand this, like, why aren't those shows categorized differently from the rest of them? I'll find something that looks OK, only to discover it's dubbed over Swedish or whatever. HATE IT. Actually I hate it so much, I'm canceling again right now
7
goonsquadgoose Mar 26, 2026 +3
I ain’t defending Netflix and don’t use it anymore but can’t you just change the audio track? That was always a thing when I was a subscriber.
3
candaceelise Mar 26, 2026 +2
Yes you can, you just have to know to look to do it. I always look at original language and then make sure the audio is in said language. Netflix by default usually uses the dubbed audio
2
Scootshae Mar 26, 2026 +1
Yes, but I don't speak any other languages and don't enjoy subtitles. Anyway I just canceled.
1
candaceelise Mar 26, 2026 +1
That makes sense. I’m a subtitle person so it doesn’t bug me
1
lordofthepings Mar 26, 2026 +66
Groceries and gas prices are going up, and billionaire companies are cutting jobs meanwhile making existing workers do 3 roles in 1, and giving 1.1% annual raises. Doesn’t even cover the average cost of living increase. Meanwhile Netflix is out here raising prices annually. Netflix has raised prices 5 times since 2020. Standard users pay $7 more per month than pre-pandemic. Premium users pay $11 more per month. Since 2020: ∙ Overall cost of living (CPI): up 26% ∙ Netflix Standard plan: up 54% ∙ Netflix Premium plan: up 69% Netflix has raised prices roughly 2 - 3x faster than general inflation.
66
DidAnyoneElseJustCum Mar 26, 2026 +8
I'm guessing that for the longest time they were actually underpriced and operating at loss while they had a war chest of that initial VC money. That got them the user base. Get people hooked... raise prices. It's a pretty tried and true method.
8
PricklyyDick Mar 26, 2026 +6
Netflix has been profitable since before they did streaming.
6
mcfw31 Mar 26, 2026 +30
> Netflix, for the second time in a little over a year, is raising prices for its three plans in the U.S. The new pricing for Netflix’s plans were updated on its website Thursday. > Under the higher pricing, Netflix’s Standard With Ads plan will now cost $8.99/month, up $1 from $7.99 previously. The Standard plan (no ads, viewing on up to two devices simultaneously) is rising by $2, from $17.99/month to $19.99/month. And the Premium plan (no ads, streaming on up to four devices at once, Ultra HD and HDR) is rising from $24.99/month to $26.99/month.
30
_emma_stoned_ Mar 27, 2026 +1
My plan’s price just went from $24.99/month to 0/month.
1
punishhhher Mar 26, 2026 +27
I shared an account with my parents but ever since they made that too difficult to continue I haven’t attempted to use them once, and I truly haven’t missed a single thing.
27
Flippykky Mar 26, 2026 +4
That’s the thing. There is rarely anything I NEED to see on Netflix. I don’t need another true crime series that stretches a 45 min story out to 6 episodes.
4
boredlady819 Mar 26, 2026 +74
These motherfuckers. I’ve had Netflix since like 2004. I’m f****** OUT.
74
Weird-Girl-675 Mar 26, 2026 +24
I had it since the beginning and told them F off when my 7.99 a month sub was suddenly going to be 23.99.
24
PajamaHive Mar 26, 2026 +7
It was the multi house charge for me. Netflix really thinks I'm streaming on 4 screens at once in my house? Hell no. That already was the multi house plan. But enough is never enough. Line must always go up. Why settle for just the subscription price of a 4 screen plan when you could charge people for that AND a multi house add on?!
7
chewy1387 Mar 27, 2026 +1
This. That was also the only tier that offered 4k.
1
danram207 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Talk is c****.
2
onlypham Mar 26, 2026 +6
Compared to a Netflix subscription, yeah.
6
bdubwilliams22 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Yeah, I’m getting really sick of this corporate price gouging. Increasing the price? Ok, what am I getting? I’m seriously looking into Plex.
1
SpanglishGirlNxtDoor Mar 27, 2026 +1
Literally deleted it tonight. Byeeee
1
Pied_Film10 Mar 26, 2026 +17
This is why they don’t have an annual subscription.
17
Alarmed_Drop7162 Mar 26, 2026 +14
They just played a 4 hour opening game for the Yankees and Giants with wall to wall long ads. They can go f*** themselves along with Peacock.
14
copperblood Mar 26, 2026 +33
Really glad I canceled Netflix a long time ago. There simply just isn’t enough good shows to justify the ever increasing subscription price. If I want to watch a movie that’s currently on Netflix I’ll just rent it for $4
33
daywalker91 Mar 26, 2026 +23
People say this every time Netflix increases their price and yet Netflix subscription numbers keep increasing lol
23
CallmeKahn Mar 26, 2026 -2
That's mainly from International Subscriptions, EMEA, APAC, etc.
-2
Stingray88 Mar 26, 2026 +7
Nope. Their domestic subscriber counts keep going up too.
7
CallmeKahn Mar 26, 2026 -2
Compared to other areas though? Not nearly as dramatic. Their largest growth in terms of subscriber count is in APAC, followed by EMEA. North America remains their most profitable because we're idiots, but it is what it is.
-2
Stingray88 Mar 26, 2026 +4
It doesn’t matter if it’s increasing less domestically than other regions. It’s still increasing domestically, which is the point… domestic is where these particular price increases this post is about are happening. If international market increases were hiding the fact that it was decreasing domestically you’d have a point… but that is not the case.
4
Cold_Tangerine4003 Mar 26, 2026 +1
That's because people are switching from cable in droves. I just stream everything for free from a PC. I get apple, HBO, Hulu, Netflix you name it. No ads on them or YouTube with the right ad blocker.
1
CallmeKahn Mar 26, 2026 -2
If you say so.
-2
Stingray88 Mar 26, 2026 +7
??? This isn’t just my opinion dude… The original comment you replied to said this: \> People say this every time Netflix increases their price and yet Netflix subscription numbers keep increasing lol It’s not my opinion that this statement is correct, it actually is correct. And Netflix will keep increasing prices until they start losing subscribers. They have no reason not to.
7
Over-Circumsized Mar 26, 2026 +1
Netflix continuously has some of the most awarded shows out of any network. To say there isn't enough good shows to justify $9 a month is just silly.
1
highgravityday2121 Mar 26, 2026 +7
9$ has ads. If I wanted ads I’d go back to cable.
7
Over-Circumsized Mar 26, 2026 -7
Yea, makes total sense. Pay a minimum of $20+, and have ads, just to show netflix who's boss with their stupid $9 and ads. Some big brain thinking for sure.
-7
dzak92 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Ignoring that it’s an ad tier. So what if the shows are good but it takes 2-3 years for the next season to come out just for it to get cancelled for low viewership after season 3. Yeah of course the viewership tanked it takes 6 years to get 24 episodes. We’re getting price increases for this sort of service? The value isn’t there not even remotely close.
1
SomethingClever2117 Mar 26, 2026 +15
You guys are all complaining about the price too high and the content not being good enough, but have you ever once thought about the shareholders? These people worked really hard that one time. They need to see growth, and they can’t create anything so it’s up to you to give them more money. So stop being selfish and pony up. It’s good for the economy! /s
15
1ConsiderateAsshole Mar 26, 2026 +5
$26.99/ month. Fuuuucccckkkkkk youuuu!
5
Global_Choice9311 Mar 26, 2026 +5
So im done with netflix. They haven't had anything i wanted to watch in a while anyway. Ill stick with the other 4 streaming services I already pay for.
5
wrathofthedolphins Mar 26, 2026 +5
Man, greed truly knows no limits.
5
heybart Mar 26, 2026 +6
Merger: raise prices No merger: also raise prices
6
Acrobatic_Club2382 Mar 26, 2026 +5
Ain’t shit to watch on Netflix!!
5
7303happyrock Mar 27, 2026 +3
Seinfeld. That's pretty much it for our household. Guess I need to cancel since I have all of the episodes memorized!
3
Acrobatic_Club2382 Mar 27, 2026 +2
Haha I have a show that I watch on paramount so I get it
2
7303happyrock Mar 27, 2026 +1
We're going to subscribe to Apple TV when the new Ted Lasso season is released! ❤️ KC native! 🙌🏼
1
blorbu Mar 26, 2026 +4
Argh! It's times like these that make me glad I sailed out to sea and never came back 🏴‍☠️
4
Informal-Sense8809 Mar 26, 2026 +3
I ditched Netflix 10 years ago and it doesn't look like I need to go back.
3
sallad2009 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Ain't even shit on there to watch
3
SomeTangerine1184 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Yeah this is where I leave you, Netflix.
2
cmockett Mar 26, 2026 +2
Oh hey, good thing I canceled after Stranger Things!
2
Bringmetolife91 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Thank the gods that my wife and I get it free through T-Mobile since they're our phone carrier.
2
Stingray88 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Yeah but that’s only the ad supported tier. It still costs an extra $18/m for ad-free and 4K. I know… because that’s what we pay. Assuming it will go up to $20/m now… :(
2
Even_Caterpillar3292 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Netflix standard, no ads, with T mo is $11. It will probably go up $2.
1
purplefreak3 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Until they decide to pass on the cost like they did with Apple tv. Apple TV went up from $9.99 to $12.99 and T-Mobile said "yea we are only covering the $9.99, you have to pay the increase of $2.99"
1
machonm Mar 26, 2026 +2
I dont get it, do they really have the "pricing power" that this article suggests? I cant think of one good show atm that I'd pay to watch on Netflix. But I am very happy with my Disney/Hulu/HBO + AppleTV combo that I pay $50/mo for. I have plenty of shows I enjoy watching as well as some I didnt even think I'd like, and yet the only somewhat recent show I can name on Netflix is Stranger Things. I wont lie though, if they ever get a 2nd season of Attorney Woo, I'm paying :)
2
Weird-Girl-675 Mar 26, 2026 +2
I left years ago when they eliminated the tier I had been grandfathered into. Haven’t missed it one bit.
2
JurassicParkJanitor Mar 26, 2026 +2
Interesting they waited until after MLB opening day to announce this. Show people that they have exclusive major sporting events and then extort them if they want to see more.
2
Inner_Injury2940 Mar 26, 2026 +2
The delivery cost of shipping those DVDs must really be cutting into their profits. /s
2
_Miss_Eclipse Mar 26, 2026 +2
I would imagine they're trying to recoup losses from people cancelling. When the cost of things people need go up, like gasoline, the first thing people cut are luxuries like fast food and Netflix. Not a great strategy to get people back
2
_MyCatsNameIsBinx Mar 26, 2026 +2
I cancelled Netflix last year lol, f*** them.
2
rawmerow Mar 26, 2026 +2
Double the price times 0 is still $0.00 for me.
2
KingOvDownvotes Mar 26, 2026 +2
Diabolical greed
2
UnrecognizedHero Mar 26, 2026 +2
Glad I only have it cause it’s free with my phone plan.
2
Devolutionator Mar 26, 2026 +2
Probably going to go ahead and cancel at this point. I barely watch anything as it is and the prices are just ridiculous.
2
fuzzyfoot88 Mar 26, 2026 +2
HAHAHA! And people continue to believe physical media is inferior. I bought movies twenty years ago on disc that haven’t up-charged me again and again…
2
Business_Quality3884 Mar 26, 2026 +2
I canceled Netflix last year.
2
Cleonce12 Mar 26, 2026 +2
This is why I just stream online
2
FakeItFreddy Mar 27, 2026 +2
Time to sail the seas
2
Berns429 Mar 27, 2026 +2
Well, everyone knows WHAT to do, they just lack the courage to do it.
2
Signal_Lamp Mar 27, 2026 +2
I feel like people keep saying they'll leave and they don't ever leave. I know the Internet is the minority towards what is actually what people think, but I would think at some point people would stop paying for shit, but then again we did come from cable that was still more expensive than what this stuff is now
2
Western-Corner-431 Mar 27, 2026 +2
I’m out. No one needs this
2
joey3002 Mar 27, 2026 +2
[whentosub.com](http://whentosub.com) is super helpful
2
Safe_Discount1638 Mar 27, 2026 +2
Thank God my work gives me this shit for free
2
thanosthumb Mar 27, 2026 +2
I feel like they shouldn’t be allowed to increase the price on you unless you terminate your current subscription
2
bug_out_zero Mar 27, 2026 +2
They had all this money to buy Warner Brothers-Discovery, but now that they aren’t they are raising prices? Make it make sense.
2
BigMack6911 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Don't f****** pay it. You can literally stream anything from there for free. Its not hard
3
islandstateofmind21 Mar 26, 2026 +2
It’s crazy that people still have a subscription. Should’ve been out when they stopped allowing you to share your account. Better late than never I guess.
2
elguapovi Mar 26, 2026 +2
You guys still pay?
2
lo-finate Mar 26, 2026 +2
I mean, I don't WANT to.
2
JediMasterKev Mar 26, 2026 +1
Because they can.
1
Dirkisthegoattt41 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I like Netflix okay but they themselves basically have switched their focus to their original content which I do like some of, but post stranger things and CK is there really a huge show that people are paying to stay and watch?
1
Darkdragoon324 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Maybe Wednesday? Definitely not as big as ST though. All the animated stuff I used to subscribe for is either over or cancelled. Or just on Crunchy Roll.
2
MrArmageddon12 Mar 26, 2026 +1
No. The only one I have even a mild interest in is Beef 2, but Im not reactivating for that. They’re throwing money at crappy live “sport” events, like WWE and having influencers fight 70 year old boxers.
1
FooBarU2 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Just in time for MLB's 1st game of the season.. only on NF 🫤
1
Fafnir2020 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Netflix fumbles opening day broadcast epically and their first thought is let’s charge people more for this!
1
dopef123 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I've had netflix since the time it came out... Like 20+ years now with zero lapses in my subscription. I'm very close to the point where I cancel.
1
JohannReddit Mar 26, 2026 +1
Sounds like they need a little help paying off that $75 million bribe.
1
Good-Bandicoot-2152 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Eh, I canceled my subscription years ago. I just download the few things I like on there.
1
w00tsick Mar 26, 2026 +1
Will do what I always do and sub less over the course of a year, especially when I can consume what I want in a 1 or 2 month period just fine.
1
digital121hippie Mar 26, 2026 +1
canceled them and don't miss them at all.
1
TegridyPharmz Mar 26, 2026 +1
Oh come on. My household uses Netflix pretty much daily but I’m not gonna pay the top tier price. I’ll reluctantly drop down to the standard option
1
Glum-Ad-4557 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I left yesterday - it’s too expensive & I hate it-easy call to make
1
NoMaintenance1423 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Must be losing folks like crazy. I mean have to charge more since they have less business, right?
1
Even_Caterpillar3292 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Last price increase, their subscriptions increased. The only people canceling was those vocalizing on Reddit.
1
voiceofreasonne Mar 26, 2026 +1
Publicly traded with vc/pe attached. Never good.
1
CIA_napkin Mar 26, 2026 +1
Haha I'm glad I left years ago
1
ACW1129 Mar 26, 2026 +1
$24 more per year.🤷🏻‍♂️
1
Future_Equipment_215 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I cancelled my subscription two years ago. At this point I’ll subscribe for just a month once every year to watch all the stuff I want to and then cancel it again.
1
ilrosewood Mar 26, 2026 +1
US prices go up but the price at sea stays the same.
1
Catsomeow Mar 26, 2026 +1
You suck Netflix
1
eddyb66 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Let me guess gas prices are digging into their DVD rentals?
1
stevguitar7 Mar 27, 2026 +1
The war is definitely affecting the supply chain
1
abn25r1p Mar 26, 2026 +1
And still they provide no way to filter out non native English content or foreign content. No offense to anyone, I just am not a fan of voice overs. I’m finally going to pull the plug this time.
1
DoubleLL13 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Gen Xer … have never paid for Netflix or basically any streaming service. F*** ‘em resistandunsubscribe.com

1
kaleyboo7 Mar 27, 2026 +1
We got rid of Netflix over a year ago and we don’t miss it.
1
devinjf15 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Meanwhile it takes literal years for subsequent seasons of popular shows to be released. I’m so over it.
1
frame_limit Mar 27, 2026 +1
they’re trying to get their coffers packed before everyone cancels once basic amenities become too expensive. they see the writing on the wall
1
Puzzleheaded-Box-432 Mar 27, 2026 +1
There are more other important things in life than to pay rich people and lose your time watching movies
1
Paleblood_Hunt Mar 27, 2026 +1
Stranger Things is over LOL you have no power here.
1
AlaskaTech1 Mar 27, 2026 +1
I had Netflix years ago and cancelled them when they decided repeated price increases were a good thing. I had Peacock last year but cancelled them when they suddenly introduced tons of ads in my prepaid ad free one year subscription, then tried to charge me more to remove the ads they inserted. Lmao.
1
Academic_Antelope292 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Which is why I’ll never pay for Netflix. But still watch all their shows, free of charge.
1
catf1sh1 Mar 27, 2026 +1
They raised the price right as they announced MLB games on Netflix this season. They know some people will cancel but they’re banking on sports fans making up the difference
1
drhavehope Mar 27, 2026 +1
How do you have to pay WHILE having ads? How do you raise the price on your ad-tier?
