The crazy thing is Biden and Trump (and many people their age) basically have the same speech issues. But when Biden lost his place mid-sentence, he stammered and looked visibly lost. Trump covers it up by changing topics mid-sentence when he gets lost. If you read a Trump speech, it sounds like the ramblings of a madman.

This is a conversation that no one really wants to have at this point but, every geriatrician I’ve seen comment on the issue says that what they saw from Biden was what they would expect from an 82yo. Losing steps physically and mentally but, no signs of actual senile dementia. Even that awful debate moment can be explained when you take into account that stutters get *way* worse as you age and when you’re tired (which it occurred after two global trips) Whereas with Trump it’s a five alarm fire. Wandering off, drooping face, mixing up words and not realizing it, lashing out, bad behavior *worsening,* etc. It’s just such an example of how “Teflon Don” is forever. He will never get the consequences he ultimately deserves

Democrats figured this out though and seem intent to lean on it and not properly advocate for their constituents because a loss for them is immaterial. No, but at the time George Clooney & Jon Stewart (who absolutely should have understood this) started agitating against him, it was already too late. Biden had won the nomination, there was no serious challenge from the DNC at that point. At the time Biden dropped out, the Biden-Kamala ticket could not legally be replaced. So when Joe drops, it could only by Kamala for the candidate. Once the DNC (and random celebrities) turned on Joe, we were doomed. PS - I don't hate Kamala as President. I think she would have been a standard Democratic president: boring but competent. But if the DNC wanted her, they should have supported her candidacy years earlier, or let Joe run & win and then resign when the cancer turned up. Yes, Joe would have won, if Stewart spent as much time complaining about Trump's obvious brain damage as he did the Democrat's. Go to hell, Jon.

I was never concerned about Bidens condition due to age. Was he too old? Yes. Definitely. But I don't think he even has any dementia at all or if he does it's nowhere near as advanced as Trump's was before he even ran for his second term. Regardless of that I never thought damn this guy is so senile he's going to do something dangerous for the country. Like at worst I was worried he wouldn't be up to the task if something major happened but even then he had competent people around him.

I’m not too worried about that, I think objectively speaking, the number of potential votes is secured, but this is assuming two things: votes will be counted and reported honestly and voting machines are not legitimately compromised.  Honestly, given the history of this administration and the actions of musk and his affiliates, those are possibilities that really shouldn’t be underestimated despite their perceived unlikelihood.

That's the hard part really. The change is striking, but with him, it's a lot less noticable. If you saw someone who was a wonderful speaker like Obama decline, you'd notice. But Trump has always made you think "WTF? What is he talking about? And why does he have those weird, rambling speech patterns and the vocabulary of a toddler?" So when he continues down that path... it's not as apparent. It's like if your friend is 150 pounds, and goes to 250, you absolutely notice it. But if they are 400 and go to 500, you might not really notice it at all.

So I know what the headline is _supposed_ to mean, but I think it’s worth pointing out a detail: Netflix doesn’t “air” anything. They do not _broadcast_ content, so they aren’t beholden to the FCC. Normally, this distinction would fly under the radar as vernacular. But in 2026, this distinction is relevant.

My mom has dementia, most likely Alzheimer’s. she’s in hospice now so I’ve seen the whole descent. I don’t think he has dementia. He’s definitely declining cognitively but it doesn’t seem anything like my experience, at least.

I’m sorry - I just went through that and know how hard it is to watch someone decline. Taking him at his word that he doesn’t have Alzheimer’s- IMO he’s got frontotemporal dementia as in the behavioral variant (bvFTD), which causes severe personality changes, and primary progressive aphasia (PPA), which affects language skills. Take care of yourself!
