Posted by ChangeAroundKid01

has anyone noticed this recently? I've bought at least two brand new releases and seemingly digital copies are not being put in with them anymore? the films in question are trick or treat we bury the dead day of the dead 4k i thought it was just maybe because some releases were older films, but no....its the new ones as well. what gives?

Trick r Treat and Day of the Dead are both released by boutique labels like Arrow Video and Shout Factory and they've never given digital codes to their releases ever.

That makes sense for the boutique releases, but I've noticed this trend with major studio stuff too lately. Warner Bros especially seems to be dropping digital codes from more releases these days. When I was setting up my Airbnb, I bought bunch of newer movies for guests and was surprised how many came without codes even from big studios. Maybe they're trying to push people toward their streaming services instead? Like why give away digital copy when they can make you subscribe to HBO Max or whatever. It's pretty annoying since I actually prefer having the digital backup - my guests sometimes mess with the physical discs and having digital means I don't have to replace them constantly. Plus storage in small apartment is always issue, so digital copies are super convenient.

Almost everything WB has been putting out still comes with a digital code. The only exception to that seems to be them releasing MoD type releases of certain older titles, like Game Night or Focus for example. They kinda suck though because they’re the only studio that actually lets their codes expire.

I totally agree, but why skimp when someone is laying down $30 for a physical copy? After all that promotion they did with fandango, vudu, movies at home etc. I have the small apartment problem too lol

Trick or treat is a different film. I'm speaking of the 1980s horror film

Again, boutique labels (Synapse Films in this case) don’t provide digital copies as they (usually) don’t have digital rights to these films.

Warner Bros still puts digital codes in their newer movies. But some time later they'll no longer put the codes in the represses. I've bought some of their releases brand new on sale years after they came out and none of them had the codes in them. So you'll only get the codes in a certain period of their release or if you get lucky happen to find a copy with the code still in it.

Studios are pushing digital codes less now, and even many new releases skip them entirely. You might need to check if the distributor offers a code separately.

Every studio release for the most part still comes with codes and boutique labels have never issued codes with their releases.
