I for one love the idea doctors let a clearly dead girl go home with her parents. That really sets the tone.

Granted her condition is unique, but you can't just go around *assuming* a girl is a danger to herself or others just because she's undead. That's deathism, man.

Yeah I'm very interested in the concept of a mummy possession/exorcism movie, but I hope it's a little more "Autopsy of Jane Doe" and less "spooky child haunts her home". The latest trailer has me worried it's more of the latter.
1
phantom-firionApr 1, 2026

MightyKrakynApr 1, 2026

I don’t think she’s immediately an undead crusty mummy. I think it’s “people who have been through traumatic experiences can look disheveled, vacant, and generally off. one major way to help is convalescence with loved ones.”

Can’t some of you guys stop nitpicking every single thing in movies to appear smart, instead of engaging in good faith with the material?
Do you genuinely think that the family *knows* from the beginning that their daughter is literally an undead mummy?
Instead of rationally thinking that she’s just been through torture and trauma, which would explain her creepy behavior and appearance?
Like, it’s very clear from the trailer, did you even bother to watch it?
That smugly, forced cynicism is so tiring, my God. Stop acting like CinemaSins.

Yea man i fee like half of Listnook’s movie discourse is just *this movie did something I think it’s stupid, therefore movie is stupid and I am much smarter than movie* 😎
I’m proud of my skill to be able to turn off my brain for 90 minutes and get lost in a story without having to feel smarter than it. People need to practice it.

SpellambroseApr 1, 2026

It makes every movie discussion insufferable. I’m all for fair criticism, but it comes to a point man.
Too many people have strong negative opinions about movies or shows they clearly didn’t bother to watch, or didn’t engage in with good faith and attention. They complain so many times about stuff that are clearly explained in the movie.
It’s ok to not be interested in/dislike a movie or show. You don’t have to rationalize it with some made up flaw that clearly shows you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Too many times I feel like Chris:

I'm sorry, but suspension of disbelief has its limits. If something is stupid enough to take the audience out of the movie, then it's probably really bad.
Even if they don't know that she's a mummy. What kind of doctor would let a girl that looks like THAT go home?
1
SpellambroseApr 1, 2026
+1
Complaining that a doctor shouldn’t let a girl go home in that state is a fair criticism. (Even though it may be explained why *in the movie*.)
Pretending that the family knows from the very beginning that their kid is an evil mummy and doesn’t care is something else entirely.
That’s what I was disagreeing with.
1
DagordaeApr 1, 2026
+1
‘Good faith’ has its limits and goes both ways.
If the film isn’t going to make even the slightest effort to make the premise actually make sense in the set parameters then I won’t make the effort to engage in good faith. Instead I shall be mocking the bad writing and glaring plot holes needed for the film to work.

A few years ago there was this horror film called 'The Pyramid'. There are many alternatives that could work: The Sarcophagus, The Curse of..., The Dissappearance of... you get the idea.
I know 'The Mummy' is a recognisable title and they'll probably think they'll get more money with this title, but even after two trailers and various posters, every single post from film sublistnooks has people asking where is Brendan, people clarifying this is different from The Mummy 4, people baffled at the idea of "another Mummy film"...
And this is film listnook. Imagine the general audience.
