New listnook gold feature: orangereds when your /u/username is mentioned in comments.

The latest [listnook gold feature](http://www.listnook.com/gold/about) is called **The Butler**. No, not [that one](http://www.google.com/search?q=tim+curry+butler&tbm=isch) and *definitely* not [*that* one](http://www.google.com/search?q=ask+jeeves&tbm=isch "though that would be kinda funny"). This butler lets you know when one of your distinguished colleagues has `/u/` mentioned your username (e.g. /u/listnook) in a comment anywhere (that you can see) on listnook. You'll get an orangered, and the comment they mentioned you in will appear in your inbox. Use this information wisely for maximum comedic effect. If you'd rather your ears burn unexplained, you may turn off this feature in [your preferences](https://ssl.listnook.com/prefs). Note: the butler won't notify you when you mention your own name or when the mention is in your inbox already. That'd just be silly.

I'm a listnook gold charter charter subscriber. It kind of bothers me that this feature is listnook gold exclusive. The existing listnook gold features are things that tax the servers more, and it has always been implied that you're paying partly for the extra server usage. As a programmer, I'm fairly certain this feature does not use significant additional resources per user. I understand there's a business need to make listnook gold more compelling, but this feature is just something that would have made sense to have from the beginning. I think this may make listnook less useful for conversation than it would be if the feature were available to everyone. If I'm writing a comment, and I want to mention someone and be sure they'll see it so they can reply if they want to, I can't just write /u/username. I have to check to see if they have listnook gold, and if not, send them a message instead.

Well I'm in Arizona and there is no shortage of places that meet that description, heck its legal to pull off and pitch a tent anywhere off highway 87. If you're in the Southwest, i recommend Sedona/Oak Creek Canyon, Bryce/Zion or Havasupai.

This is just like [Hubksi's](http://hubski.com/) 'shoutout' feature: >How do shout-out to someone? If you put a user's name between two @'s (example: I just talked to @oscar@ about this...) in a post or comment, they will be notified that you mentioned them. It's actually useful for more than for just novelty purposes, -it shines in any community (on listnook this = sublistnook) that is generally smaller and more tight-knit as a community. One of the most beloved features of Hubski. I could see this actually being slightly annoying for accounts that are part of too large of a community (like shitty_watercolour perhaps, but I can't speak for him/her), but I'm sure there are ways to mitigate that if it turns out to be the case. A simple toggle if it's not already available would do the trick.

Theoretically yes, but if /r/spacedicks bans the bot then you'd be out of luck. It would be better to mirror a number of sublistnooks, like /r/spacedicks, /r/ShitListnookSays, and /r/ClopClop, thereby ensuring that the bot is never banned, as well as a steady stream of offended users.

I still hate /u/Shitty_Watercolour for that, I followed listnooknoir like a dogs tail. Even the sub became locked. F*** YOU shitty watercolour! EDIT: Story time kids. Once upon a time as the legend goes there was a guy named Listnooknoir who was a novelty account *juuust* like Shitty but not quite. You see, Noir went around replying to comments with a part of a story... would've been a great story had he completed it... Noir always wrote as though he was a detective looking for someone in the dirty cold city named Listnook some say it was /u/karmanut, other say it was /u/potato_in_my_anus, other thought he was just chasing his tail. Noir ventured through the red light districts full of those pretty /r/gonewild girls with the neck beards staring greedily and throwing upvotes hoping for more. Unfortunately, Noir mashed too many toes... pushed is nose in too many dark corners... on his search... and Shitty was sent after him to silence him **at all cost.** It wasn't till that faithful day, while following his clues, [Shitty found him](http://www.listnook.com/r/AskListnook/comments/s62r2/every_single_time_i_open_my_oven_i_dont_wait_long/c4beubx?context=4) and blindsided him with more paintings than he could write stories to. The dark side of the hive mind seeing defeat started mailing threats to Noir, who knew things would never die down... did the bravest thing a man could ever do. He loaded his gun, pointed the barrel to the underside of his chin... and pulled the trigger. Me myself? I don't think he did it, I think he was man enough to click that deactivate button and is now free, free to explore that mysterious place that's mentioned in /r/outside. The overlords of Listnook more specifically that slime bag, mainly /u/yishan, they rewarded /u/Shitty_Watercolour handsomely with votes, karma and listnook gold. Last I heard, he has lifetime access to that fancy place named /r/lounge. I would love a way to ignore these on a *per thread* basis for situations just like this thread is developing into. I don't want to turn it off always, but this circlejerk shit was an inevitable problem you guys foresaw... However, I think there's some utility in this and it's a shame that working as-is my preference will be to just turn it off altogether.

Agreed, however expand the option to "global off", "per thread" and "per sublistnook". (because I would think that sometimes its better to ignore a whole sublistnook at some points, and if you already do per thread...)
