What a guy.

He's easily gotta be one of the best British actors in modern history. Has such an amazing resume, he does intense psychological drama just as well as he does comedy. He's absolutely terrifying in Dead Man's Shoes, by far my favourite role from him. From the very first scene he commands a ridiculous aura and is genuinely frightening. His short film Dog Altogether which got extended to become Tyrannosaur (both written and directed by him too) further shows he has unbelievably good range for extremely dark and scary characters. He was amazing in In America too as a grief stricken father. But then you have Hot Fuzz where he plays one of the funniest characters ever written, and he was also amazing in The Death of Stalin as well. He's just so good at playing complex dramatic characters but also excels in comedic roles too. I've often found actors that can do drama and also comedy to be some of the best actors around. It's hard to be funny and also hard to play such complex dark characters and nail them both. He really can do everything, from acting to writing and directing. He was fantastic in Pride too, which as a Welshman myself I knew the story about it. It's an amazing film that tells a story not many people know about in which the gay and lesbian community (this was before the term LGBT was a thing) helped out the miners during the miner strikes under Thatcher. It's an amazing story and something you wouldn't think was real if you didn't know it was all based on true events. His character development through the film is masterful and he nails the mix of drama and comedy whilst also learning to be more socially progressive. If people want a slightly hidden gem from his back catalogue then this is one I always recommend to people.

They didn't even try with Cole. Keep him clean shaven for his younger scenes and then have him grow up and grow his beard and throw in some gray hair. Seems too easy.
