He called a confidence vote on himself? Is that the same as a no-confidence vote? What was the final vote tally? Not sure how New Zealand party politics works but in most Westminster system's I'd just assume he was trying to head off a leadership spill by striking before the factions that wanted his arse gone had solidified around a replacement candidate.

We have MMP. He refuses to speak to the media about it. He’s deeply unpopular, but no one else wants the poisoned chalice of wrangling his two coalition partners, whose leaders run rings around his inexperienced arse. He’s a blowhard who thinks he can get by on ex-CEO corporate word salad - he even called himself the CEO of New Zealand recently. In his entire term he also has only done one interview with our hardest hitting journalist who has a weekly show - because he struggles when he has to go off his prepared talking points. It’s actually preferable he stays put until the next election in November, as it significantly decreases their chances of being voted back in. He is the most useless PM we have ever had. They got voted in as protest vote against our post-COVID Labour party, not because they had any good ideas.

Sure, but he's recently polled at only 16% for preferred PM and National only getting 29.97%. Might not be everyone's opinion, but its pretty well agreed thats he's as useless as they come.

Why? Everyone's opinion counts. Not just his/hers.

Opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one and most of them stink.

What's your opinion on Luxon?

As someone who voted for him: his weakness is he lacks the charisma for the job but overall is steering the ship how we (those who voted for him) expected him to. If we compare him to the likes of Key, Clark or Ardern they had that "X" factor that sets them apart when they're in front of people. Politics is largely just a popularity contest after all, especially in this day and age.

You voted for him expecting him to use nationals credibility to cover for Act and NZ First?

Nope, actually now I think about it Act got my party vote so I didn't actually vote for him. I did hope he'd have a bit of the Uncle John magic but sadly that's not been the case. Not quite sure how I'm going to vote next time though as Seymours stance on Israel has really pissed me off. NZ First can eat a bag of dicks though.

I guess TOP (not that I like them much) might be the closet to a home for you in the current party set up

But he's not steering the ship at all. ACT and NZ First have dominated the policy agenda, and Luxon has been unable to reign them in – particularly given we've seen some of the most corrupt behaviour by Ministers in living memory (Casey Costello, for instance). Luxon has been totally absent – there hasn't been any leadership from him on anything at all.

lol so what do you expect them to say? They’re explaining why he’s not popular. Are they supposed to say “some people dislike him for no reason and some people like him for no reason “

In recent weeks national has been polling bellow or around 30% of the vote, with one poll putting them on 26%. On those numbers they would win around 37 seats (maybe lower) a loss of 12 seats from 2023. Due to the MMP system an over performance of National in the electorate seats could lead to multiple current cabinet ministers possibly lossing their seat including the current finance minister. This along with luxon just being all around hated by everyone has lead to massive rumours about a possible coup in his party. Inorder to fend off their accusations Luxon called a vote of confidence from the MPs in his party to show the nation he has the support of his party. The final vote tally is not public but news says its nearly all mps voted support in him. This is likely because there is no clear person to replace him and no one wanting to take the poison chalice Its important to note that Luxon and National were elected in 2023 on the promise of turning around the economy. The economy hasn't gotten any better since then and luxon is a black hole of charisma and is very unpopular. His coalition partners of ACT and NZ First have also been running rings around him and he has been unable to keep them in control espicaly the leader of NZ First and minister of foreign affairs. The main reason National won was because the then Labour government was deeply unpopular having been government coming out of covid and the following inflation + hang over from covid.

Pretty much exactly what happened but the vote tally is not being shared

National has given up hope of winning the election and just wants him to go down with the ship now. His refusal to answer any questions and the shades of red he turned during question time were amusing.

Polling numbers seem to indicate even less voter engagement than in the US. May the Flying Spaghetti Monster save them.

What poll are you referring to that shows voter engagement?
