My brain still won’t wrap around Trachtenberg. It legit tells me she’s chilling in LA somewhere with her friends rn. It’s absolutely impossible for my brain to accept for some reason.

She was only 6 months older than me. My brain can't comprehend that I'm sitting here, writing this comment and she's just gone, forever.

Michelle had long term health issues. James had cancer. With Nicholas from what we know now it was a heart condition. There’s speculation that the heart condition was exacerbated by previous addiction problems. There’s no evidence of that but there hasn’t been an autopsy. I knew a man, not overweight or out of shape, that died of a massive heart attack at age 32. People due die of heart conditions in their fifties.

Mortality.

AnonymousAnteater41 Mar 21, 2026 +13
I mean, yeah, I get it, but these guys are relatively young! 😕

noctalla Mar 21, 2026 +8
Yep. They were. That doesn't mean anything statistically weird is happening. The sad reality is that not everyone makes it to old age. Some people die young. Some very young. And for those of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s, we are now hitting the part of the bell curve where more and more of the celebrities who we saw growing up are going to die. Of course, many more of them will reach old age. However, for a lot of celebrities, especially the ones whose career highlights are in the rearview mirror, the media will mostly ignore them unless something bad happens. Illnesses, arrests, deaths. Prepare for more bad news in the years to come. Mortality is our reality.

It's literally only going to get worse the older you get.

Makes me sad because these were the shows I grew up watching: Buffy, Dawson’s Creek, etc 😕

Holy shit. Talk about completely left field. Natural causes at **54**?!?

AuburnMoon17 Mar 21, 2026 +21
He had a heart attack 3 years ago and was diagnosed with some sort of heart condition so not entirely out of left field. He also had a long history of substance abuse.
21
Flicksterea Mar 21, 2026 +2
Thank you for that information, I'd not heard about the heart attack so you're right not exactly left field after all.

My best friend died in his sleep at 55 in perfect health. Heart attack and never woke up. Perfect health, ran 10k’s, lean, ate well. Doctor said it happens more often than people realize.

TravusHertl Mar 21, 2026 +5
Mine died at 21 in his sleep. No drugs or alcohol involved. His heart just gave out unexpectedly

EjaculatedTobasco Mar 21, 2026 +6
54 ain't too old for sudden death, even for a person *without* substance abuse issues.

UltraMegaUgly Mar 21, 2026 +3
People see a ninety year old person and assume that is what they will achieve but it takes some deaths in the fifties to bring that life expectancy down to 72.

Insomniac_80 Mar 21, 2026 +32
That is sad, he did not seem to be doing well.
32
whichwitch9 Mar 21, 2026 +38
It's worse because they said he had been dealing well with his substance abuse and mental health issues lately. So, better than he's been in a while. But died in his sleep of natural causes is suggesting it might have been his heart issue

This one made me gasp. I've never been good at keeping up with TV and these days I binge watch most things. Following a show over the years gives you a different relationship with the show and the characters. Buffy was really the only shoe I followed like that growing up. He and Michelle were both way too young.

tossed_off_a_bridge Mar 21, 2026 +7
I actually gasped as well :(

Forever The Zeppo. A Buffy reboot just can’t happen too many missing pieces and no chance of Xander coming back kills my interest in it completely. RIP I enjoyed your character a lot.

Oh, that’s sad. I liked that guy.

So sad.. I know he had issues but damn. Buffy would not have been what is is without his character. RIP Nic

RIP to the dude but that character was the worst part about the show and one of the worst tv characters of all time

Wasn't that his twin brother in Criminal minds?
5
PastimeOfMine Mar 21, 2026 +21
No, it was Nicholas Brendon and he left the show because of the drug issues. His brother rarely acted, usually only when he couldn't be there for a day and they really needed a double or for random twin scenes (coherence, the split body ep of Buffy)

sdss9462 Mar 21, 2026 +9
Oh, that is heartbreaking. I'm in the middle of bingeing Buffy with my older sister the last few weeks.

Im a millennial and love Buffy but I think this is Gen X show

EjaculatedTobasco Mar 21, 2026 +5
Borderline. I'm about to turn 40 and watched every episode back in the day. I hated this dude's character.

I'm watching Buffy for the first time and I find Xander's character insufferable in the first season. I feel like the writers purposely wrote him lame partly for comic relief or to have a scapegoat for watchers to hate on. No sleights against Nicholas Brendon. He was working with what was given him. Plus Mr. Whedon fostered a toxic workplace has been known to implement many scenes which did not age well at all. Well, I finally finished season 1 though and Xander does redeem himself at the end helping to resuscitate Buffy.

Mathute87 Mar 21, 2026 +1
Keep watching. You'll love him, you'll hate him. I don't think Joss was an a****** through the ENTIRE thing, same applies to the one character fully based on himself.

Surealestateguy Mar 21, 2026 +1
I heard he said that it was fun and I’d like to do it again, but you know he’s under the thumb now. He’s a man. Not many of us can change our DNA.
