There is plenty of jet fuel available. It is simply being used for private and cargo flights, verses for the public. The other option is to purchases it at a premium or sign a long term contract. There are US fuel suppliers that have the ability to produce more, but will not increase production, unless they have a guarantee to make back their investment through long contracts. Any airline that cites lack of fuel simply refuses, to jeopardies future profits over your ability to use their services.

Well said, but > have the ability to produce more, but will not increase production, unless they have a guarantee to make back their investment through long contracts. Any **company** that cites lack of **supply**, simply refuses to jeopardies future profits over your ability to use their services. Basically all companies every time they raises prices in response to temporary conditions.

Yeah, does buddy just expect flights to occur that are money losers? Of course airlines are prioritizing profits. They aren’t a public service that is expected to lose money just to keep service moving. They’d like to have a stable opex environment but they don’t have that. Somehow people will view this as price gouging as 1/4 of the worlds airlines go out of business.

I can’t believe this is happening to an oil exporter country.. we have the same problem in Iraq btw but I thought it was the government mistake ✨✨

Producing oil is just the first step. You need to refine the oil at a refinery into diesel and jet fuel. A refinery requires investment, industry and skilled labor.

Also adding to the fact that if the refinery isn’t government owned they have zero incentive to sell it inside the country. They’d rather make way more exporting it than selling it at a fair price domestically

Oil needs to be refined into jet fuel. Not sure if Nigeria has jet fuel refineries but either way, the issue really is that a bunch of refineries in the world depended on oil supplies from the ME, so they either couldn't make enough or had to make it using much more expensive oil. So jet fuel is now both more scarce and more expensive. People really need to understand that just because a country extracts oil, doesn't mean they won't be affected by price increases and supply disruptions.
