>Over 100 people were killed in an airstrike on a Jilli village market in northeast Nigeria, Amnesty International said on Sunday, citing survivors of the bombing. >"Witnesses said three military jets fired on the market yesterday. Emergency section of Geidam General Hospital had so far received 35 people with severe injuries," the international human rights watchdog said in an online post. >"We spoke with the person in charge of casualties, and we spoke with the victims," he said. "We have their pictures and they include children," he said. >Military says it conducted a 'precision' strike near abandoned village. The bombing apparently took place on Saturday. Nigeria is engaged in long-running clashes against Boko Haram and other jihadist groups. Jesus f****** Christ

This part of the world is so fucked up. I mean the sahel, not just nigeria. Peak case of Everyone sucks here. Islamic terrorists go around massacring entire villages just cause they didn't openly support them, and the governments are no better. Atleast with the Islamists they sorta try to have some semblemce of order in the chaos which is why they get so many recruits from the poor impoverished people here, but when the government rolls in they just kill you cause they felt like it. No reason. No justification, not even a barely valid flimsy one. Just shoot you dead and your family. And in places where the Russians are there, you have government forces massacring entire villages while white aasholes watch and laugh. And we haven't even touched on the sex crimes against women and children from all sides. No matter how bad you think your life is, it's not nearly as bad as some poor family living in the sahel having to choose between islamic terrorists and genocidal military juntas and hoping today won't be the day one group rolls on and decides they don't like your village.

Targeting militants somehow keeps ending up as markets full of civilians… at what point do we stop calling this a mistake?

this is a region where the govt declared a state of emergency bc of boko haram, which is known to use child soldiers. if you've never seen beasts of no nation, it's such a harrowing film about what child soldiers go through. the government probably is telling the truth about targeting this place on purpose. you'll notice that the article doesn't say civilians, though it does specifically mention children. that's the even more tragic part like it's just hard to fathom the depravity of using child soldiers. how can a state ethically fight a group that does that? so horrible, just such a hopeless cycle.

Nigerian Air Force is also pretty bad. Low quality training + weak coordination + old equipment = 50/50 on where their bombs are gonna land.

How do you propose to fight insurgents and terrorists who use child soldiers and use civilians as human shields? The world isn't simple and easy. It's a f****** mess, full of morally ambiguous choices that need to be made. Very very rarely are the choices in places like Nigeria simple

[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_equipment\_of\_the\_Nigerian\_Air\_Force](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_equipment_of_the_Nigerian_Air_Force) They have purchased aircraft from pretty much every country that has ever manufactured aircraft.

I don't want to sound ignorant but is that a MIG?

AdCreepy5165 Apr 13, 2026 +4
Close. Its probably a Chengdu F-7. Its a modernized Chinese version of a mig-21. Nigeria bought a few to replace their Mig-21's and upgraded them with western hardware. That has to be wicked mess for aviation techs to deal with.

Meh, probably not that difficult. Airframes are airframes and modern avionics is pretty programmable. the techs aren't doing the engineering for the upgrades.

Silhouette looks like a Chengdu J-7, which is an improved derivative of the MiG-21. So not really that crazy. Definitely super outdated and not the kind of plane first or second-rate militaries would field, but still shockingly common.
