It definitely echoes the *leading from the front* style that has largely disappeared in modern Western doctrine, where high-ranking officers are usually tucked away in a TOC miles behind the wire.
So much so that when I was in the army infantry, it was a big deal if an officer sat in the front truck in his convoy.
