Naah. They have been given death sentence. This will pave way for LEO to keep them in check. Next, Judiciary and Legislature.

Wait until they appeal in the High Court, then the Supreme Court and then President's Mercy Petition. The case does not end here. Since state elections are around, this might as well be an election stunt.

> They attacked unarmed people. They should not be forgiven. It's incredibly refreshing to hear a judge say that about cops. No talks about how the cops needed more money for training before they stop deliberately beating people to death, or vague talks about police reform while ignoring the case on hand. Just handing out the solution to bad policing.

The judge who overturns this sentence will have to flee the country or join a _particular_ political party. The wrath!

Death Penalty by a Sessions Court automatically requires signing off from the State’s High Court, and if it’s upheld there then Appeals to Supreme Court and finally mercy petition to the President, and any inordinate delay in this process will entitle these convicts to have the punishment reduced to Life Imprisonment. It’s going to be a while until the actual punishment is confirmed, as it should be in my opinion if the punishment is death. It is however extremely unlikely that these cops will ever walk free. India follows “rarest of rare” doctrine for Death Penalty and so the question here isn’t really if they are guilty but rather that if their crime was so gruesome and heinous in detail that it qualify under the rarest of rare doctrine or not, and so even if higher courts reduce their punishment, they are still getting Life Imprisonment at a minimum.

I am assuming the conviction is based on circumstantial evidence and hanging 9 people to death on a conviction on a circumstantial evidence may be too extreme. Its likely to get reversed to life imprisonment.
