Great turnout! Just over 2% of the entire US population. It keeps growing in size and in the number of issues the crowds are protesting for. Looking forward to No Kings 4. That said I heard we have a general strike on May 1? Any details yet?

Stingray88 Mar 29, 2026 +1
I am very much in support of escalation to a general strike, but how effective is a single day strike? Usually when you strike, you don’t stop until your demands are met.
1
MumpsyDaisy Mar 29, 2026 +1
In this case I think it's more about proving it's actually possible to organize a strike of that magnitude, because as of now it's reasonable to assume it can't be done. If you can't even manage a single day strike, how are you going to organize one for a week? Or longer?
1
BolognaLaCroix Mar 29, 2026 +1
More effective than a zero day strike
1
puppet_up Mar 29, 2026 +1
Things will have to get a lot worse for the average American before they are willing to go on a general strike for days/weeks/months. Even this 'No Kings' protest, while very much a great thing, is planned out months in advance and seems to always happen on a Saturday when a lot of people are already off of work and can attend without having it conflict with a normal work day.
1
B-Kong Mar 29, 2026 +1
Yeah, don’t buy things on May 1st lol
1
digitalred93 Mar 29, 2026 +1
I would argue we need to go a step further and not use streaming services and google products, but I think it would be almost impossible to make that happen.
1
Lebarican22 Mar 29, 2026 +1
The history books need to reflect that this president was the worst president in modern history.
1
diabloman8890 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Without hyperbole you can drop the "modern".
1
Yashema Mar 29, 2026 +1
The history books should reflect that he took the title from another Republican President.
1
blorbot Mar 29, 2026 +1
I hope all 8 million of those people vote in the next election.
1
007meow Mar 29, 2026 +1
Chances are the people who show up to a political protest have a higher likelihood of actually voting. The non-voters are the ones who aren’t as politically active.
1
IrishRepoMan Mar 29, 2026 +1
That's concerning, considering 8 million is ~2% of the population...
1
SuddenNothing6266 Mar 29, 2026 +1
You are right. Now we need to engage with apolitical people from our friends and family.
1
VastCapital3773 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Well you have to keep in mind there are more than enough people who just don't have time or aren't the protesting sort but know exactly where their vote is going.
1
IrishRepoMan Mar 29, 2026 +1
More than enough? What does this mean, and what are you basing it on?
1
VastCapital3773 Mar 29, 2026 +1
More than enough people in the country that could sway that vote? I'm telling you not to think there's only 2% of people in the country who hate Trump. What do you think I meant?
1
amateurbreditor Mar 29, 2026 +1
For our last local election for the energy board the place where everyone bitches about high energy costs... when I left the 1st time 44 people had voted. I live in a pretty densely populated small metro area in a very liberal neighborhood full of "activists" That was the primary vote for this liberal guy. Then I went again to vote him into power and I was like 48th that time. No one votes. No one. Elections like that are determined by like 1% of voters. You cant even begin to argue that even h******* activists vote and even dumb ideas that maga always votes. no one does. no one. except like 40 people in my neighborhood. at least a more liberal person got voted in but its pretty scary it works like that.
1
pinkfartlek Mar 29, 2026 +1
And then there's people on auto pilot. Like the people who googled "why did Biden drop out?" *after* the last election ended
1
MrBrawn Mar 29, 2026 +1
And continuously check their eligibility with their state. Id also get a passport as well.
1
Myis Mar 29, 2026 +1
And donate to a passport assistance fund for those who can’t afford it.
1
still-waiting2233 Mar 29, 2026 +1
And bring a friend or two!
1
timbo3385 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Downvoting because these ARE likely the people who did and will continue to vote. No need to shade people for getting out and demonstrating.
1
xeoron Mar 29, 2026 +1
I hope they start to protest daily and not for a few hours every few months
1
ThinkThankThonk Mar 29, 2026 +1
It's more about linking up with orgs and like-minded folks to remain active, less about a protest directly causing a thing to happen - getting to MN level of organization against ice for example is built over years of getting more and more people to recognize they're not alone.
1
PredatorRedditer Mar 29, 2026 +1
Thank you! All of the pessimism about No Kings, or demonstrations in general from people who also hate fascis feels as bad as the fascism itself.
1
ThinkThankThonk Mar 29, 2026 +1
Some of it is definitely bots, but I think there's a significant portion of people who don't realize the extent that community (specifically potentially-left white community) has been suppressed over the past decades. People want to see France or South Korea before they'll believe anything is happening but we need to rediscover our neighbors first.
1
timbo3385 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Yeah, I get it that people are jaded. I am too, and it feel better and is more productive to get off your butt and get involved.
1
Ok_Temperature9388 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Are you protesting daily?
1
x0avier Mar 29, 2026 +1
Uh, the need to make money and not get fired?
1
timbo3385 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Might be a good idea to search for your local Indivisible or 50501 group. Bring your voice and ideas to the table.
1
PunfullyObvious Mar 29, 2026 +1
I wish there was a way to make this happen. It seems that the US being so large and spread out makes it challenging. If we were a country with just a few major population centers and most lived within an easy train ride I think I'd be much easier to make happen. I'd love to go to DC and protest - i did often when I lived in that area - but to get to DC or any real population center where live now would take at least a five hour drive each way and the logistics of parking, etc, would be a nightmare. This spread out approach to protesting we need to take makes giving it a unifying feel challenging.
1
ailish Mar 29, 2026 +1
In my city there were several organizations set up to sign people up to be more politically active. I think it's more about that. Most people have jobs and families and can't be out there protesting every day, but if they can, for example, work with their local immigrant community that has been affected by ICE and deportations then don't you think that has a greater impact?
1
razor21792 Mar 29, 2026 +1
That's more of a logistics thing than anything else. Organizing large protests is *hard*.
1
Efficient_Resist_287 Mar 29, 2026 +1
And on Monday everyone went back to work….
1
Muted-Tea-5682 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Well, if they had voted in the last election, they wouldn’t have to
1
Stompnutz Mar 29, 2026 +1
Why do you think that people who are actively protesting didn't vote?
1
socialistForDE Mar 29, 2026 +1
That's not enough. If they have enough activism to make signs and march, then they need to be donating and volunteering for campaigns and issues. Signing up for DSA. Doing something
1
ZonghZonghZongh Mar 29, 2026 +1
It’d be wicked awesome if they could retroactively vote in the last one.
1
GorbasBoods Mar 29, 2026 +1
Given that the people who are protesting likely DID vote, I'm struggling to understand the need for cynicism here. No one's saying there isnt more work to be done, but jaded listnookors commenting "WELL, WHATABOUT-" is just eye-roll inducing.
1
Flomo420 Mar 29, 2026 +1
"We DEMAND a do-over!"
1
DueAd7930 Mar 29, 2026 +1
That is a little more then 2% of the us-Americans.
1
rraattbbooyy Mar 29, 2026 +1
The last election was won by a less than 2% margin.
1
DueAd7930 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Do you think the protestors did not vote? Is it easier to protest than to vote in the US? And if so why is on a Saturday only 2% of the US population protesting? There is a convicted criminal waging war, constantly lying very obviously, stealing from you, alienate you with your allies and friends and gets you from the most important partner of many countries to an outsider and 2% of the people protesting this on an event that is planned since 2 month is all? I do not get this.
1
rraattbbooyy Mar 29, 2026 +1
You said only 2% of the people protested, as though 2% is nothing. I just said elections are won and lost by less that that. I only offered a perspective, I didn’t need a lecture on civic participation.
1
HotDogFingers01 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Hey Fox News, are all of these people paid protestors?
1
kathleen65 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Our protest are always positive and creative, I love standing with other resisters for our democracy. I am a 78 year old woman, I have been yelled at in such vile and hateful ways by men driving by at every Trump protest. This president has brought out so much hate, I am shocked to live in this world he has created. It breaks my heart. I am sad for our children's future, greed has destroyed everything.
1
Mrs_SmithG2W Mar 29, 2026 +1
We must unite. They want us dumb, hungry , tired angry, scared and/or distracted so that we will put up little resistance when full autocracy is tried. WE MUST STOP THEM THIS MIDTERM ELECTION: November 2026. It is the last democratic chance out of this mess. Vote, donate, volunteer, door knock/canvass, phone bank, write postcards. Get in touch with your local community organizations or democratic headquarters now to get involved. Here are some good organizations mobilizing people: https://indivisible.org/ https://votesaveamerica.com/ 💪🏼🌍🖖🏼
1
Significant-Self5907 Mar 29, 2026 +1
What if the MAGAts cancel voting?
1
OppressedCow6148 Mar 29, 2026 +1
I think people seriously believe that the Selma and Montgomery marches happened in a vacuum. That MLK Jr. woke up one day, unknown to anyone, and somehow rallied tens of thousands of people overnight. It took nearly two years of planning and preparation to get their movement to be able to do those three marches. We have this terrible habit of wanting to look back at history and copy and paste it exactly into modern times. They didn’t have a captured media, they didnt have a surveillance state, the Supreme Court wasn’t at the whim of the president. That doesn’t mean we should give up, but we need to stop pretending this is going to look the same as other movements. We must adapt our expectations and stop complaining that protests don’t mean anything. It’s about organizing and meeting your community. Good god people, stop with the doomerism.
1
HireEddieJordan Mar 29, 2026 +1
But this is less of a movement and more a get out the vote campaign.
1
OppressedCow6148 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Anybody that has enough sense to go to a protest and spend hours of their time clearly understands they need to vote? I’m not sure what you’re arguing.
1
No_Consequence7919 Mar 29, 2026 +1
That's a good start. That about matches the die hard never change MAGA voters.
1
jelasher Mar 29, 2026 +1
Was there a bigger violent protest? Seems like that qualifier isn’t doing much.
1
Mental_Priority_7083 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Maybe the civil war and revolution are being considered big violent protests and counter protests.
1
EagleLize Mar 29, 2026 +1
Seems a bit manipulative doesn't it?
1
Etherdeon Mar 29, 2026 +1
I recall there was a pretty big violent protest back in the 1800s.
1
Comfortable_Ebb1634 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Organize one.
1
Carochio Mar 29, 2026 +1
The only violence that did occur was when the far-right radicalized activists showed up.
1
Far_Nefariousness888 Mar 29, 2026 +1
and The New York Times downplays the turn out today.
1
anorcaonguitar Mar 29, 2026 +1
I was there, where are all the young people?
1
ailish Mar 29, 2026 +1
There were a ton of young people at mine. Maybe it's just your demographics. 🤷
1
anorcaonguitar Mar 29, 2026 +1
Thats great to hear, I'm in a College town in Mi?
1
ailish Mar 29, 2026 +1
Don't know what to tell you. Maybe you weren't in the right place. I'm in Michigan, too. Every single post in the state sub has young people. 🤷
1
Alarming_Comedian846 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Spring break?
1
Practical_BowlerHat Mar 29, 2026 +1
That could be. If it's anything like the college town I worked in, the dorms are closed for break and most of the students have left town until they have access to their beds again.
1
IrishRepoMan Mar 29, 2026 +1
Barely heard a peep about it all day. Media's doing a great job of keeping quiet.
1
palekillerwhale Mar 29, 2026 +1
And Trump doesn't care. He continues to do exactly what he wants. We need a different kind of protest.
1
No_Statistician9289 Mar 29, 2026 +1
I don’t care what Trump thinks

Which part of your irrelevant sounding statement was factual? The 34 count felon is pretty well documented as a sexual offender. You defending it just makes you look like one too.
1
Low-Astronomer-7009 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Yes, it’s only been proven he was best friends with a child rapist and has been doing everything he can to protect other people involved in the ring and have his administration try to “misplace” the pages with his name or with interviews with his accusers. Those are the only facts.

If your referring to J6 violent insurrection, approx 2000 poop smearing, cop beating, thieving thugs.

Watching CBS Sunday Morning (yes I know) and they said attendance was "thousands." Technically correct I suppose.
1

I was wondering if there was gonna be any push back in bigger cities or not. Anyone know if they went smoothly or did ice show up to magically find people to "deport"

8 of how many millions? What a loser country
1
wasabi_dream Mar 29, 2026 +1
8 million of 349 million could be bothered to help save democracy in the USA. 2.3% of the US population. Heaven forbid some of these lazy assholes even bother to vote
1
Nicktendo Mar 29, 2026 +1
Just 89 million* people too complacent about what's going on to do anything about it. That's how we ended up where we are, people just letting life happen to them. Edited
1
1800pengwings Mar 29, 2026 +1
Your number includes children.
1
yorlikyorlik Mar 29, 2026 +1
Children? Lazy bums, all of ‘em.
1

My children were there, lol
1
ailish Mar 29, 2026 +1
Did they vote?
1
1800pengwings Mar 29, 2026 +1
I’m saying that you’re arguing that and babies are complacent about politics. They’re too young to understand.
1
palekillerwhale Mar 29, 2026 +1
So are you apparently lol
1
syynapt1k Mar 29, 2026 +1
No need to be pedantic.
1
HotDogFingers01 Mar 29, 2026 +1
The number you're looking for is roughly 89M - that's how many people were registered to vote and just couldn't be bothered. In an election year where the gap was about 2M votes. F*** every single one of them.
1
syynapt1k Mar 29, 2026 +1
That's honestly very disappointing. I was hoping for at least 10 million, given how bad things are.
1
TpyoOhNo Mar 29, 2026 +1
So there was a larger, violent, protest? Is that what they're saying?

1

The first was one was 13M. How is 8M the largest ever?
1
troveofcatastrophe Mar 29, 2026 +1
The first one had over 5 million. June 2025
1
Responsible_Ladder25 Mar 29, 2026 +1
The first one last June was 5 million. The second one last October was 7 million. Not sure where you got 13 million.
1
Flomo420 Mar 29, 2026 +1
5 million + 7 million = 12 million + 1 million for good luck
1
muthermcreedeux Mar 29, 2026 +1
Approximately 5 million at the first one, 7 million at the second one, and 8 million this one.
