I'll just circle back to my earlier statement and leave it as a parting gift for you to mull over: "The truth is that change usually requires multiple strategies and not one thing is going to be the cause of change ".

You’re right, looking back I now see that the abolition of slavery, the freedom of speech, the freedom of religion, workers rights, desegregation, property rights, woman’s rights, and all the other rights we enjoy these days were obtained because our ancestors were willing to get together bi-annually for a no-king protest before returning to their daily lives. I understand where you’re coming from but from my perspective this is a steam valve that takes away energy that could be used in other ways. People are fed up, and they see this as doing enough, I disagree. If it was a binary choice between this or nothing at all then this would be better than nothing I suppose, but I think this has the opposite effect than desired. Instead of being seen as a road to a destination I think too many people see this as the destination itself. In other words, this neuters the effort for change.

These people need to watch wall street “greed for lack of a better word is good” - Gordon Gekko the gieco spokesman

Genuinely, I don't know what these are going to accomplish, or even what people **think** they will. I'm all for protesting and speaking up about your opinion, but there's not a person in the "problem" parts of this governmental administration that could give any care to how many people protest against them.

Doihg nothing with accomplish nothing, doing something might accomplish something.. It's called having hope & faith that the actions of many will change the selfish desires of a few.

dereksalem Mar 28, 2026 -7
Hope & Faith doesn't change elections and powers - action does. Getting together is step 1, but No Kings has been stuck at that step for **8 months** now, and they literally haven't even determined what the next step would be. The Million Man March made sense and made impact because then they took it to people's doorsteps.

But hope and faith creates action. Apathy doesn’t

Here's a test. Increased voter turnout is the point.

dereksalem Mar 28, 2026 -7
And why is it that we think No Kings will actually increase voter turnout? As I mentioned, polling results showed in the 2016 election a lot of people chose to stay home because they thought the election was rock solid for Clinton. They chose not to vote and she lost. What's being done to actually convince voters to vote? No Kings is just a gathering, with no discernible action.

For the same reason rallies and awareness have always increased voter turn out. It keeps people engaged and paying attention. There is no magic better way out of our current quandary. I get your function is just to shit all over the protests, the people and the message, but you asked a question, almost certainly not in good faith, and I gave you a good faith answer. I did not expect you to take it seriously.

Exactly! I think most of these negative posts are bots or trolls. They always spew misinformation. Imagine pretending to be on the left and being negative about organizing lol. It’s to transparent. Especially when No Kings and Indivisible have said they are going to push for a general strike on May 1st.

ToNoMoCo Mar 28, 2026 +4
It was an obvious shitty and insincere question. They will not even entertain any answers, even the most obvious one. They're just posting to divide and disconcert. Calling them out is the best defense.

It's about being seen so that it attracts more people to the movement.  Even if Trump doesn't care, the GOP reps still have to answer to their constituents come voting time. This puts pressure on them because they ultimately want to be re-elected.

dereksalem Mar 28, 2026 -3
I get that, but the "movement" is just people going to the events...so the events might get bigger, but that's **all** the No Kings really is. They even have a "What's Next" page on their site and it's...basically nothing: [https://www.nokings.org/whats-next](https://www.nokings.org/whats-next) The next is joining another call, hosting a meeting, and stay tuned to find out more. I'm not saying No Kings is bad, but the reality is the vast majority of the places they take place are in **profoundly blue** places. They take places in major cities (almost all blue) and some blue states. Those cities aren't the problem...it's the surrounding counties that are heavily red that skew the state votes into obscurity. Ya, visibility is good...but it's also misleading - When people see a huge group of people meeting for a purpose they also tend to think "I guess they already have what they need" and they don't vote, historically. A ton of people in 2016 thought Hillary Clinton was going to win the election with ease and chose to stay home, instead, according to polling.

I understand what you're saying and would agree if the attendees just went to this protest and stopped there, but I find it highly unlikely that's the case. For many people attending these protests, this is likely the first time they are engaging in something political in this way. The fact that so many people are upset enough to spend hours at these protests is an indication that there are more and more people who are highly motivated to make a change. I really doubt these people would take the time to attend a protest and then not show up to the polls. And yes while these attendees are the more politically engaged people, they have their own networks and are likely to encourage those they know to get out and vote. That's why rallies are important because they build momentum in movements.  We have seen a trend with democrats being able to win seats in places where they are not typically favoured, with high turnout out to many of those elections. People right now are more politically minded because of Trump, and that's true around the world, not just in America.

Unfortunately the only political alternative is run by spineless seniors who are more concerned with themselves than returning to a rule based society.

"And the greedy tyrants went about their day unbothered, because, as before, it is sound and fury amounting to nothing" What are these accomplishing! I don't care about clever signs and sing alongs. Give me reason to attend! This is the 3rd one and they have changed nothing
