MAGA absolutely decided they wanted a king. Trump isn't subtle or well spoken. He wasn't using nuance when he spent 2020-2024 at rallies telling his followers he wanted to have the last election they'll ever have to vote in. They cheered his rhetoric about mass deportation and stripping away rights.
He ran on a campaign of becoming a tyrant and over 70 million people voted for that. They absolutely wanted a king. They just happened to elect him and he didn't have to do the hard part when it comes to overthrowing Democracy, MAGA voters/abstained voters gave it to him.
