Supreme leader is Pulgasari. North Korea kidnaped a South Korean director and his actress ex-wife and made them make a Godzilla-like movie (among others). They made a movie that was NK propaganda, but at the same time not so subtly critical of the regime.

I'm still confused. We fought the taliban for 20 years to put the taliban back in power?
59
ProxyDamage 5 days ago +94
Ok, so it's very simple, let me explain: A Saudi Arabia funded, and CIA equipped, islamic terrorist group attacked America on 11th of September (11/09/2001) in a mass casualty terror event. Because of that America invaded Afghanistan, the place that was suspected to be hiding Osama Bin Laden the men responsible for the attacks, to remove the Taliban from power. This went so well that 2-ish years later the US invaded Iraq to take away their weapons of mass destruction which they absolutely, 100% certainly, beyond a shadow of a doubt, had. This certified information was based on.... vibes, I guess... or something. Who cares about evidence anyway! Anyways Saddam Hussein was captured and killed within 3 years which is why that war lasted 8 f****** years. Anyways Afghanistan was doing great this entire. Except for the constant reports of humanitarian abuses, torture and war crimes by the americans. Those were a bit of a bummer. Anyways that shitshow lasted 20 years, during which the US very successfully achieved their main objective: to pump infinity billions of dollars into the american military-industrial complex. But the war stopped being profitable at some point and they got bored or something so they fucked off, leaving the taliban to instantly retake power. Does that make sense?
94

Thanks for the explanation... Nope. Doesn't make sense.

Man, there’s a lot of bad history here. OBL was already insanely rich, and kicked off his war with the US *and* KSA because KSA declined his offer to have his AAA push back Iraq in 1990, opting instead to have the US-led Coalition handle it instead. This pissed off OBL because he was unhappy that non-Muslim and non-Arabs were in the Holy Land and tasked with its defense. He kicks off a decades-long terror campaign culminating in a second WTC attack. After that, the US asks the Taliban to hand him over, Taliban refuse, and the US invades Afghanistan for knowingly harboring a terror group. OBL flees to Pakistan in December of 2001 and the US spends 20 years attempting to get Afghanistan moderately stable But OBL wasn’t funded by KSA, it was well known he was in Afghanistan prior to December of 2001, and the CIA never equipped OBL’s AAA during the Soviet-Afghan War, that specific falsehood has been debunked for decades. Either you’re poorly informed or being intentionally misleading

The last president of the South Korea was impeached and now in the jail after a failed internal coup. He has a trial coming where he is accused of sending out drones all the way to North Korean capital and not very secretively so that North Korea will discover and rash out at the South so he can consolidate his power. Even though he is in jail, he still has up to 30% of die hard supporters, especially in Gyong Ssang region.

Maduro got abducted. Khamenei got blown to pieces. Putin is hiding underground because of the credible assassination threat he faces daily. Assad is hiding in exile. Yes but like… who is pressuring them at this point. Most of your cases are Trump being a wacko, and Trump seems to love Kim and Putin. Putin is at risk because of a war with Ukraine that Putin started, and not at risk from the United States. As long as Kim stays at home, I think he’s fine.
25
StaysAwakeAllWeek 5 days ago +7
Kim is going to (try to) be dictator for another half century, not just a four year term. He's watching the world destabilise and fearing for his future. I'd say this is an entirely rational response

ArtsyBread 5 days ago +17
Who the hell is insane enough to try a decapitation strike on Russia, a country where if even 10% of their nukes still work it'll be enough to blow millions of people into dust? That'd be even dumber than killing Khamenei just for Khamenei 2.0 to take over.

Ukraine is literally at war with Russia right now, in case you haven't heard. If one of their drones ends up killing Putin, I think they'd celebrate. Most other people in power also know, like Putin knows, that using a nuclear weapon would mean the end of Russia as a country and certainly the end of their (relatively) nice, cushy life.
9
ABoutDeSouffle 5 days ago +5
Not Ukraine. They do psyops to mess with Putin's mind and disturb the Russian population, but I doubt they'd dare striking the Russian leadership. Only chance would be from inside in the context of a coup.

189
Kellar21 5 days ago +61
His arc got dropped because after he got real nuclear weapons, the plotline planned for him kind of derailed. Now, the US will leave NK alone. Frankly, this and what happened after completely discredited any kind of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons as a security policy. The rule that the only real safety your country can have is having nuclear weapons now doesn't have even the illusion of international stability and respect for treaties and agreements it had before.
61
KennyMoose32 4 days ago +27
I bet Ukraine wish it didn’t give up its nuclear weapons in the 90s for a “security assurances” I don’t like nuclear weapons but I cannot argue against them anymore. No country that has nukes has ever been invaded or conquered. It’s why Saddam wanted them too.
27
Kellar21 4 days ago +8
Ukraine couldn't even use those nuclear weapons, that's one of the main reasons they gave them up. The missiles were there, but only Russia had the control codes for launching. Ukraine would have had to disassemble the missiles and place the warheads in new ones to actually use them. But yeah, it seems most treaties aren't worth the paper they are written on.

His successor won't be willing to commit suicide just as he gets power. The reality of North Korean high society is a lot different than the masses. Most of them have been to the west and are very well aware of the state they are in on the global scale.
36
DownvoteEvangelist 4 days ago +4
I think your argument has too much rationality in it...
4
TLKv3 5 days ago +15
Didn't he *just* name his daughter as his successor (obviously)? Why would he order nukes launched if he dies only to guarantee his own daughter gets obliterated too? Why would she hear this and not think "huh, he doesn't give a f*** about me does he? Maybe I should just get rid of him, take command instantly and not y'know... f****** die horribly."
15
MrAnyone 3 days ago +3
I'm sending this just to add more information, the successor thing came from South Korean spies, even the girl's reported name—Kim Ju Ae—has never officially been confirmed. When it comes to NK, we literally don't know unfortunately, so it is super hard to make predictions.
3
TheGreatMightyLeffe 5 days ago +4

This was my first question… wouldn’t bad actors abuse this? Possibly easier than building a nuke yourself or a way to avoid responsibility for launching one.
6
NoPerformance4830 5 days ago +12
i imagine that kinda stuff is exactly what they are thinking about? essentially if in this case europe gets nuked then they aren't gonna sit back plus if their own intelligence finds out who actually did it they will also go crazy, which would pretty much start a chain reaction with billions dead so it's in everyone, ally's or enemy's best interest to not do anything like this

TheTelegraph 5 days ago +74
**From The Telegraph:** North Korea has changed its constitution so its military is required to launch a retaliatory nuclear strike if Kim Jong-un is assassinated by a foreign adversary. The change was made after Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, and many of his closest advisers were killed in strikes at the start of the joint US-Israeli attacks against the regime in Tehran. The revision was adopted at the first session of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly, which opened on March 22 in Pyongyang. It was made public on Thursday in a briefing to senior members of the South Korean government by its National Intelligence Service (NIS). According to the NIS briefing, Kim has command of the North’s nuclear forces, but the changes codify procedures for retaliatory attacks in the event that he is incapacitated or killed. The revised Article 3 of the nuclear policy law states: “If the command-and-control system over the state’s nuclear forces is placed in danger by hostile forces’ attacks ... a nuclear strike shall be launched automatically and immediately.” Prof Andrei Lankov, a Russian-born professor of history and international relations at Kookmin University in Seoul, said: “This may have been policy before, but it has added emphasis now it has been enshrined in the constitution. “Iran was the wake-up call. North Korea saw the remarkable efficiency of the US-Israeli decapitation attacks, which immediately eliminated the greater part of the Iranian leadership, and they must now be terrified.” An attack designed to eliminate Kim and his immediate circle would be far harder to carry out than the attacks in Iran. **More here:** [https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/05/08/north-korean-nuclear-retaliation-if-kim-jong-un-killed/](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/05/08/north-korean-nuclear-retaliation-if-kim-jong-un-killed/?WT.mc_id=tmgoff_listnook_if-kim-jong-un-killed/&accesscontrol=facebookchannel_open)

The US abducted Maduro and took out pretty much all top Iranian leaders this year in surprise operations. Of course the North Korean regime is paranoid. Listnook laughs as if this is a ploy for attention, which it may partly be, but ignores the genuine threat here. Trump's decisions have predictably made certain countries like North Korea more defensive and potentially dangerous. North Korea just announced they're also building more artillery to have aimed at Seoul, which alone could cause an unstoppable bloodbath.
21

But NK doesn't have any oil
3
ThatGenericName2 5 days ago +14
Ok this is actually a lot more reasonably than the first glance at the headline. The US (and also Russia’s attempt on Zelensky towards the start of the invasion) has showed that they will go directly for the head of state on an attempt to decapitate the enemy, so having a nuclear response be constitutionally required in such an event would be an additional layer of deterrence.
14

No, they won't. NK will finally get access to all the p***, music, and movies they've always wanted. It's gonna be goon odyssey if Kim is killed. https://www.newsweek.com/north-korean-troops-russia-ukraine-war-gorging-p**********-1981960

Lil’ Kim over there, trying so hard to be noticed.

I mean. If he is dead nobody would care if they ignored the order to fire. Imagine they disarm, setup a system to make sure nobody embezzles money like in russia, and they set up every family with a good home, education, and future. Dictatorships are cruel. Its a dictatorship all in one bloodline - crazy.

Kim is the odd kid out for dodgeball. He’s sitting out but still talking trash from the bench.

Kim Jong-un must be terrified after Venezuela president Maduro got abducted and US kill Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. Kim probably wouldn't feel safe even with nukes.

Linusami 4 days ago +3
That’s what they have to tell Kim. We good.

Doubt it, it's a dictatorship, cut the head it can't grow a new one out but drop dead instantly.

We know, its precisely why Iran wanted nukes in the first place.

Has someone actually showed any legitimate interest in offing this guy since... ever?

GenghisKazoo 5 days ago +6
I mean, after Maduro and Khamenei both got very directly targeted, I can understand why a head of state on America's shit list might want to make such a statement.
