I think Iraq and Afghanistan had over 10k private contractor deaths which include regular contractors like truck drivers and concessions as well as the ones who were fighters. Last I read(10ish years ago) over a quarter of them were foreign internationals. Its the same thing we're seeing in Ukraine with Russian groups like wagner. A nice way for the government to ignore the death count number. I wish I could find the video and article I saw on Iraq and Afghanistan contractors back in the mid 10s. The numbers really stuck with me.
