NYT: Israel’s Message to a Broad Swath of Lebanon: Shiites Must Go. Israel has issued sweeping evacuation warnings, and pressed some Christian and Druse leaders to expel Shiite Muslims from southern towns, the leaders said.
I hope someone will explain to me how this is not ethnic cleansing.

There are jokers on this very sub who claim that expelling Israeli settlers from the West Bank would be ethnic cleansing. Their brains are so fluid they can flow down any path.

I hope someone will explain why zero Lebanese Christians and zero Lebanese commit suicide bombings, while Shiites seem to be lining up for it like a stall for free kebab.
…just trying to help, as no one has answered the above question; and answering this this will also answer that.

So you're saying this is justified ethnic cleansing.

I’m not promoting this thing, it’s bad. But I’m also against exaggerating and twisting this into something it isn’t.
You seem to be avoiding a certain elephant in the room.
Also: not ethnic. Religious.
Also: not “cleansing” in the sense of killing people. Israel has no way to do a full ground op to remove Hezbollah terrorists embedded into normal society.
Also: Shiites are the ones who have been butchering Druze for years. You’ve seen the videos, yes? So, Israel is simply turning groups who are already enemies of each other on each other to ease their own dealings and minimize casualties on the side (Christians and Druze) who as a matter of faith aren’t involved in terrorism. It’s a very crude way of telling hostages to push the terrorists in a certain direction, rather than be collaterally injured when fo part of fafo codes to the terrorists.
Given: not all those Shiites are terrorists; and playing a somewhat wicked game by turning up the flame between those who already are both brothers and enemies. I’ll give you that.

Ethnic cleansing as described in a [1994 UN report on the Yugoslav wars, page 33 paragraph 130](https://documents.un.org/doc/undoc/gen/n94/200/60/pdf/n9420060.pdf) is “a purposeful policy designed by one ethnic or religious group to remove by violent and terror-inspiring means the civilian population of another ethnic or religious group from certain geographic areas.”
Not exclusive to ethnicity. Does not require killing.

Religion is not an ethnicity. This is equally bad though.

They don't even try to hide their plans for ethnic cleansing anymore.
The rest of the world needs to wake up and support the ICC in prosecuting these war criminals.

That’s ethnic crime and is a war crime

A. Religious, actually. You do know what “ethnic” means, right?
B. They’re not killing them. You do know that’s what the term you’re trying to stick here means “killing a group of people based on their ethnicity”, right?
Not to reduce the actual situation, which is indeed problematic. But twisting and exaggerating helps no one.

A. Ethnic refers to a group of people who share a common, distinct culture, such as language, ancestry, traditions, or religion
B. Ethnic cleansing is the systematic and forced removal of ethnic, racial, or religious groups from a given area by a more powerful group
It’s amazing how confident and how wrong you were with both of those.

You're actually right! The correct term is religious persecution and is also a crime against humanity. And crimes against humanity are indeed 'problematic'

They cannot even see that they're essentially doing the same things to others that happened to them almost a century ago...
"Never again!" was shouted for so many years since.
But now we're seeing the nation-level equivalent of "hurt people, hurt people".
They've lost their own humanity and empathy.
Just like almost a century ago, the ability to still see others as people has been lost.
Edit: and just to be very clear, I'm not talking about having the right of self-defense. I'm talking about what goes beyond that.

You would think a nation that was birthed as a result of the tragedies of the holocaust would try harder not to single out a specific group of people based on their faith - "racial tolerance for thee but not for me"

Ethnic cleansing but that's OK because it's Israël I guess. Also they're kind, they could also kill them ruthlessly instead of warning them. They will though, if they do not obey.

Hey, can anyone who posted, 'Will you hide me?" offer any justification for the IDF demanding that the Shia of Southern Lebanon not be hid and expelled?

I think this time we'll have to repeat "Hezbollah" at least 20 times to make all the doubts go away.

It's like with hail Mary's. You just have to repeat 'Hezbollah', 'Hamas', or 'terrorism' enough times and all your sins go away.
