The WB settlers are just the f****** worst. They're right wing nationalist zealots who are fueled by hate and stupidity, and the fact that the wb settlement project even exists embarrasses even most Israelis these days. It's not something that has wide support. Unfortunately the support has grown a little over the course of the war as some right-leaning Israelis have been radicalized in the wrong direction...and the entire right wing political bloc ostensibly supports it out of political expediency...either way, it should have been abandoned when the same project in Gaza was abandoned 20 years ago. There is no rational purpose for this bullshit. And I say this as someone who believes in Israel's right to exist as a home for the Jews. I just can't fuckin stand what the right wing has done with the country.

California was still paying people for Native American’s scalps up until 1915. Native women were part of forced sterilization treatments up until the 1980’s. Well, I live in the USA - look what WE voted for - and even after what happened the first time around. I remember watching a woman who was firmly MAGA who was upset about some of the stuff going on lately. Her issue? "They're hurting the wrong people!" Between this brand of naked hatred and the misinformation pushed on the populace by dark money billionaires and the captured media, our poorly-educated asses have been handed to us. On behalf of my country, I heartily apologize for it all. We are trying to get rid of them too, the pendulum of time will swing back to sanity after midterms - if we can hang on to it until then.

They vote for Netanyahu’s party because he has convinced them that all of their Arab neighbors are constantly plotting to destroy Israel and he is the only one who can protect them. That’s why October 7th was such a big deal - it was a huge embarrassment that his government allowed the attack to happen and that’s why their counteroffensive was so swift and heavy handed. He had to make himself look “strong” or his supporters would have revolted against him.

Do you know how elections/governments are formed in Israel? It's not first past the post, the people in charge weren't elected by the majority. The governing coalition is filled with small parties with over-powered influence. Because they give Likud a governing majority. Most Israelis don't vote for pro Settlement politicians or parties.

What are the parties that specifically support withdrawal of settlers from illegally occupied territories? Or is the spectrum of opinions ranging only from "We should completely take over West Bank" and "We should keep all the settlers that already moved there"? EDIT 🔒: Meretz, the party that couldn't pass the 3.25% threshold to get into Knesset without merging with the Labor party into The Democrats? The party with a 4/120 representation. The party whose leader Yair Golan states "The Democrats is the only Zionist party which opposes the Israeli occupation of the West Bank."? There are like 30 something parties so I can't answer that. My party (Meretz) supports dismantling the settlements and restoring sovereignty to the WB. Despite being arguably the largest foreign policy plank to non Israelis (i.e. how could we discuss anything else), not all parties even have an opinion. The ones that really do are usually bigoted racists on the right. The Overton window is free Palestine (small group admittedly) to complete greater Israel (also relatively small). 10/7 killed the Israeli left. A center left government not filled with bellicose racists is gonna be the best hope.

And they(Early Zionist Congress) didn't want to settle in what would become modern day Kenya, partly because they were racist, partly because it wasn't the holy land. The Mizrahim were regarded as backwards Arab-esque people, so they were forced to occupy a lower political and economic strata in Israel, wedged between their Ashkenazi brothers and the Arabs who stayed behind in Palestine. It took them well over 30 years to really obtain even a modicum of real equality. The Sephardic Jews have faced similar challenges in Israel as well.

Can’t say you’re wrong, but I was not raised to hate people other than those that share my religion or ethnicity. Israel’s entire government is built on entitlement and they use anti-semitism as a shield for criticism. I think for Americans, it's a kind of indifference more often than outright hate. American goes into other countries and kills their people over oil or whatever, and that's just kind of okay or unfortunate but not murder because those aren't Americans so it's not a huge deal. Even to people who oppose it, the view is that it's just kind of what happens and an aspect of how the country operates.

I think this attitude is largely the byproduct of our electoral system. I can't vote for a candidate who won't wield wield the American military to benefit American aristocracy interests as both our main parties will do that and a vote for one of the smaller parties will benefit the one of our two main parties that you are most ideologically opposed to. Those facts explain a lot about the American psyche in my opinion. You can either be with the program of the Democrats or the Republicans, tune the f*** out, be a giant ball of stress as the government does what it will, or be a revolutionary.
