From the way the poster is setup I thought this was a spin off to Puss in Boots lol

Rabid_Chocobo Mar 25, 2026 +303
Same, I got excited for a half second, which I’m sure is intentional by the creators of the poster

Played right into there hands

#FROM THE DIRECTORS OF PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH ^(Forgotten Island)
213
webshellkanucklehead Mar 26, 2026 +2
I mean the Forgotten Island text is much much larger so no?
2
Massive_Weiner Mar 26, 2026 +10
It’s about impact, not size, lol.
10
webshellkanucklehead Mar 26, 2026 -4
what

FangornOthersCallMe Mar 26, 2026 +1
Visual hierarchy. Puss in Boots is much smaller, but it’s also at the top and a mismatched style with the rest of the poster. It’s what your eyes go to after being directed upwards by the giant white triangle
1
OperatorofChaos Mar 25, 2026 +26
Same. I was like “Puss gets turned into a human in this one? That’s f****** stupid”
26
Bill_Dinosaur Mar 25, 2026 +6
I thought they fucked up the cat paws. "Psssh cat hands don't look like that"
6
FX114 Mar 25, 2026 +8
But CGI Antonio Banderas? I don't hate it.
8
FoxMcCloudOwnsSlippy Mar 25, 2026 +70
My excitement nosedived when I realised we are not getting the 3rd entry, Puss in Boots: Forgotten Island
70
cowabungalowvera Mar 25, 2026 +13
Have you seen the trailer? It looks so good tho. And an actually original idea.
13
TannerThanUsual Mar 26, 2026 +1
I'm sorry man, but I think you're lost. Here on Reddit we just look at the titles of articles or the thumbnail and base our entire opinion on that.
1
Ok-Wolf5932 Mar 25, 2026 +49
The PiB logo stands out more than the actual title.
49
Nobanob Mar 25, 2026 +12
I assumed it was Puss and Boots: Forgotten island. Then with the poster I'm like what the f*** does these two humans have to do with Puss?
12
coontosflapos Mar 25, 2026 +11
The fact that we live in a timeline where we can hype a movie by just slapping a "From the directors of" an unwarranted, unwanted sequel to Puss in Boots is absolutely baffling to me, but f*** it, Puss In Boots 2 was f****** incredible so colour me interested
11
theastro_not Mar 25, 2026 +4
You had me in the first half not gonna lie. But yeah PIB 2 was stellar, dare I say better than the first
4
OkCat7431 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Better than highlighting the voice actors. At least the directors is a great tell if the movie has potential or not
1
Robsonmonkey Mar 25, 2026 +11
Haha. Same here. Clearly international.
11
YesicaChastain Mar 25, 2026 +7
Agreed. I was like “I don’t remember them setting this up…?”
7
Sw0rDz Mar 25, 2026 +2
I thought it was too where Puss turns human.
2
supercleverhandle476 Mar 25, 2026 +3
Same. Terrible marketing
3
Empty_Discipline5809 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Although we are talking about it
1
theSchiller Mar 25, 2026 +1
I literally went through the same thing
1
FX114 Mar 25, 2026 +1
I thought it was a sequel.
1
Phyliinx Mar 25, 2026 +1
I thought it's incredible they already got a sequel out.
1
pigeonwiggle Mar 25, 2026 +1
same - and then i realized it's just a movie about two people with plants for heads.
1
psycharious Mar 25, 2026 +1
Yeah, I thought the title was weirdly: Puss in Boots: The Last Wish: Forgotten Island. I was like, "taking queues from video games and anime I see."
1
happy-cig Mar 25, 2026 +1
Shit I was about to come into this thread to say iono how they going to top the Last Wish!
1
goldblumspowerbook Mar 26, 2026 +1
I"m like "that's weird, no cat depicted"
1
flintlock0 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I would have thought this was another Disney Animation film that would flop and I’d forget about within a month if not for that.
1
GroundbreakingUse794 Mar 25, 2026 +1
Depends on the island
1
Derpykins666 Mar 25, 2026

what’s with this f****** tie business?
23
JamUpGuy1989 Mar 25, 2026 +6
“Turbo Floyd!…”
6
ackinsocraycray Mar 25, 2026 +2
AND TRUTH MAGNUM. YOUNGEST MEN ALIVE.
2
riegspsych325 Mar 25, 2026 +256
there’s more design and thought put into the “from the directors of Puss in Boots” tag than there is for the actual title on this poster. I know it’s silly to analyze a poster for an animated kids magazine but but this just looks like a halfassed job EDIT: I hate auto dictation, but I’m keeping it
256
Kamakaziturtle Mar 25, 2026 +48
Nah, it's 100% done that way on purpose. The last Puss in Boots movie did really well and they are hoping to capitalize on people who at first glance might think it's from the same series, who normally might have just scrolled on by. Which I mean... worked on me.
48
riegspsych325 Mar 25, 2026 +6
it’s always intentional anytime they put “from the director/producer/studio that brought you…”, but this one here is just more egregious with it It’s like TGS show logo in 30 Rock with Tracy Jordan’s name being bigger than the actual title
6
goldblumspowerbook Mar 26, 2026 +4
"From the species that brought you The Empire Strikes Back..."
4
rbrgr83 Mar 26, 2026 +1
"Presented by Quentin Tarantino"
1
chipmunksocute Mar 26, 2026 +2
I mean yeah.  If folks who worked on Last Wish are involved here thats great, Last Wish was really really good.
2
xSantenoturtlex Mar 26, 2026 +2
The trailer for this movie isn't so shabby, either. Looks like the 'Directors of Puss in Boots' are cooking again.
2
DullRelief Mar 25, 2026 +10
“From Scholastic Books, Forgotten Title Treatment”
10
EntertainmentQuick47 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Hollywood does this a lot. I mean, how many movies have you seen with the "from the director of Training Day” tagline? Most people don’t even know Antoine Fuqua’s name.
1
coolaspotatos Mar 25, 2026 +47
I feel horrible for whoever the designer was for this that probably pushed against putting a giant "Puss in Boots" title above the ACTUAL title of the movie...
47
theSafeguard Mar 25, 2026 +307
I thought it was a new Puss in Boots movie at first glance. Excitement dwindled when I actually read it.
307
NewInThe1AC Mar 25, 2026 +30
Same, those colors make it really hard to read the text on the poster so all I could make out at first glance was the Puss in Boots logo
30
HiImDan Mar 25, 2026 -2
Like.. we didn't really neeeed another puss in boots but dang they have all been amazing so I'll be keeping a close eye on this. Then to come into the comments and be relieved I don't have to give this movie a second thought.
-2
cowabungalowvera Mar 25, 2026 +20
I thought movie goers want original ideas and not just the nth movie in a franchise? *This* is an original idea made by an amazing film-maker. Why not give it a second thought?
20
little_gremlin_33 Mar 25, 2026 +6
I agree here, we can’t have more spiderverses and K-pop demon hunters without some variety in premise
6

5
Ani-A Mar 26, 2026 +1
Luckily the live action Moana movie is coming out as well. It seems that that is more up your alley.
1
DigitalGumby Mar 26, 2026 +1
I think that's the point of putting it there lol from the same director hoping people will give a new idea a chance
1
Responsible-Care-388 Mar 25, 2026 +163
A movie about kids going to a "secret island" sure sounds like it would do well in 2026

>[Forgotten Island](https://youtu.be/a8RHqN93qfo?is=4NPsNS1ajlBrQFsP) - In Theaters September 25 >Your best friendship is worth fighting for. >DreamWorks Animation, the studio that brought you unforgettable bonds between a boy and a dragon in How to Train Your Dragon, an ogre and a donkey in Shrek, and a robot and a gosling in The Wild Robot, now welcomes a dazzling and emotional story about two lifelong best friends who must come together before they drift apart in Forgotten Island. >The new original film is written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado and is produced by Academy Award® nominee Mark Swift, the filmmaking team behind Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. >Grammy and Academy Award® winning supernova H.E.R. and Liza Soberano (Lisa Frankenstein, Alone/Together) star as high school graduates Jo and Raissa, who have been best friends since grade school but are now about to embark on separate life paths. >While celebrating their last night together, Jo and Raissa stumble upon a mysterious portal that transports them to the fantastical island of Nakali, packed with magical and mythological creatures they grew up hearing stories about from their Filipino families. Some of these figures will become friends, some foes. Joined by well-meaning-but- hapless weredog Raww (Dave Franco) and a small-but-mighty pack of pals, Jo and Raissa must face The Dreaded Manananggal (Tony winning icon Lea Salonga), the most feared creature on the island. When they discover that the memories of their entire friendship are the price for returning home, Jo and Raissa will race to find a way to leave the island before they forget each other forever. > >The film’s all-star voice cast also includes Emmy nominee Jenny Slate (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, Dying for Sex), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place, Top Gun: Maverick), BAFTA nominee Dolly de Leon (Triangle of Sadness, Ghostlight), global comedy superstar Jo Koy (Haunted Mansion, Jo Koy: Live from Brooklyn) and Emmy w***** Ronny Chieng (The Daily Show, M3GAN).

cupholdery Mar 26, 2026 +1
Thanks for this. The poster tells me none of these things if I'm not already in the know lol.
1
xXPumbaXx Mar 26, 2026 +1
How the f*** are they gonna write a Manananggal in what seem to be a family movie lol? It's supposed to be a creature that take the apearence of a woman but can actually separate it's body to be a torso with wings. It's supposed to be a quite gruesome creature.

Look at the little charms on the bracelet. It’ll look like that

Complete_Feeling18 Mar 25, 2026 +73
man the comments here are miserable
73
TheRappingSquid Mar 25, 2026 +12
R/monsterverse fans when there isn't a 15 minute long shot of godzillas foot slowly impacting the ground (immersion ruined) Rule of thumb; avoid movie related subreddits on general. Everyone thinks they're a 1000 iq critic and yeah its 90% because of fuckin cinema sins
12
Dumpytoad Mar 25, 2026 +4
That sub is wild and a vocal portion of them are weirdly anti-Kong in a way that goes beyond “I just want Godzilla to have more screen time” towards “they should kill off the big monkey I only want big lizard in my Godzilla x Kong franchise”
4
TheRappingSquid Mar 26, 2026 +2
Tbh, I'm happy with the kong stuff bc his entire mythology is "monkey gets shot in New york" for ages now and it feels like they're actually trying to give him more like godzilla has. I can understand some of the points, but the only real legit one I can understand is the genre shift from "pretty decent disaster movie" to "pretty decent action movie," but because the earlier ones were allergic to color and ""realistic"" people talk about them there like they're somehow objectively better. As if like, they don't just focus on different things (and also as if the main character's acting in 2014 wasn't painfully wooden.) You'd think Adam wingard burnt their house down from the way they talk there.
2
Dumpytoad Mar 26, 2026 +2
Totally agree on all points.
2
TheRappingSquid Mar 26, 2026 +2
I hate to say it but there's some pretty hilarious parallels between that place and the Snyder fandom, though not to such an insane extent
2
Dumpytoad Mar 26, 2026 +2
Honestly, I was going to make the same comparison but didn’t want to summon the cult haha
2
TheRappingSquid Mar 26, 2026 +2
I'll take the hit ✌️😔

Strict_Pangolin_8339 Mar 25, 2026 +18
Worst subreddit on here that's not a racist hate sub.
18
Dark-Ganon Mar 25, 2026 -9
Oh no, there's people being negative about an upcoming movie. That's on par with being a racist!
-9
Strict_Pangolin_8339 Mar 25, 2026 +11
Read my comment again, smart guy.
11
Dark-Ganon Mar 25, 2026 -8
I did read it, you're putting this on the same level as racist subs.
-8
Strict_Pangolin_8339 Mar 25, 2026 +8
No, I'm saying this is the worst sub on here THAT'S NOT a racist sub. Please learn to read, it's a valuable skill!
8
Dark-Ganon Mar 25, 2026 -12
Which is putting it on a comparible level to racist subs. The worst shit from this sub doesn't even come close to the normal shit from any sub full of racist shit.
-12
Strict_Pangolin_8339 Mar 25, 2026 +7
I'm sorry, are you intentionally trying to misinterpret my words to start something with me? Cause this is the most obvious bait I've ever seen.
7
Dark-Ganon Mar 25, 2026 -3
I'm not baiting anything, it was just stupid to compare this to some of the worst shit on this site just because it's negative.
-3
Madhouse221 Mar 25, 2026 +33
Filipino American kids movie? I’m down
33
pausespace Mar 25, 2026 +33
As a Filipino American woman who is still best friends with someone I first met in grammar school I was borderline in tears watching this. I will be seated, probably in some Filipinana-based outfit, on opening day with as many friends as possible. So many references to things I grew up with as a kid flashed by in the trailer that I never thought I'd see in a major motion picture.
33
where-sea-meets-sky Mar 25, 2026 +7
frrr its about time we got a proper mainstream pinoy movie i just hope its actually good
7
z3kr0m Mar 25, 2026 +5
As a white dude always happy to learn more about others cultures, I'm glad to hear this isn't using yours as c**** Halloween costume.
5

Doesn't feel that way at all from the trailer!

1
ienjoymen Mar 25, 2026 +21
Based on this poster, I definitely thought this was called "Puss in Boots: Forgotten Island".
21
BroForceOne Mar 25, 2026 +14
Finally a movie that raises awareness for equality between sweater wearing people and non sweater wearing people.
14
-HanTyumi Mar 25, 2026 +60
The fact that a different movie's title is almost as big as the actual movie's title on its poster gives me more than enough to know this is likely going to be bad.
60
fernofry Mar 25, 2026 +15
with the Dreamworks logo in camouflage, trying to hide they are involved
15
Strict_Pangolin_8339 Mar 25, 2026 +8
You guys keep making up new and unique reasons to say a movie looks bad.
8
-HanTyumi Mar 25, 2026
Not new, not unique. It's part of core design principals and is associated with "interpreting media".
0
YZJay Mar 26, 2026
Or just coping.
0
Rot-Orkan Mar 25, 2026 +19
Between Puss and Boots and Wild Robot, Dreamworks has reached must-watch status for me, like Pixar had back in the day. So, I'm instantly intrigued. The comments are talking a lot about the"Puss in Boots" thing, but that's just marketing. This looks like a new IP (or at least, maybe an obscure one? I've never heard of it), so you have to offset some of the risks by tying it to a known property. And honestly, it worked, for me anyway.
19
TheCarrzilico Mar 25, 2026 +3
It's the origin story for Samberg, Schaffer and Taccone's partnership.

Honestly with everything going on right now it's not that bad of a thought when NO ONE IS BEING CHARGED But yaknow I guess f*ck them kids and former kids.....

Crazy you made that same stupid f****** joke on the trailer and the poster.

It's an island where presidents hang out! A treat for the whole... I'd say family, but only the president will be happy about that happened.

As a Filipino I agree. Raya was a disappointment.
1
redmandolin Mar 26, 2026 +1
I’ll never get over the fact they casted East Asians for an SE inspired film. Just felt wrong.
1
tfbillc Mar 25, 2026 +4
Focusing primarily on “From the Producers of Some Really Good Movie That You Liked” instead of the actual movie or any of the creative team behind the movie is typically a pretty big red flag. I remember a trailer for some illumination movie from a few years ago. The trailer was a minute long and at least half of it was clips from Mario, Minions and other movies that had nothing to do with the actual film.
4
Merickson- Mar 25, 2026 +12
Directors, not producers, and I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they didn't have much say in the poster.
12
Chilifille Mar 25, 2026 +2
All I know about Chicken Little is that it starts with an ironic reference to the sunrise from Lion King. That made me think ”why am I watching this when I could watch Lion King instead?” and I never saw the rest.
2
jeejeeviper Mar 25, 2026 +2
Ngl it doesn’t look like anything special but Puss In Boots 2 was great so it has potential
2
SAGuy90 Mar 25, 2026 +2
I thought this was one of those fake Pixar AI posters about Epstein Island
2
kopecs Mar 25, 2026 +1
This movie poster sucks :/
1
Early-Piano2647 Mar 25, 2026 +3
This is one of the worst designed professional posters I’ve ever seen. I legitimately hope someone gets fired for it. The colours of the title, the Puss in Boots being misleading, the crappy animation, the lack of explanation, the title being too small… Wow. Appallingly unprofessional.
3
Hspryd Mar 25, 2026 +2
I don’t wish firing but I think that’s a bad poster too, plus a bit odd…
2
Early-Piano2647 Mar 25, 2026 +1
Not specifically for the designer, as they were obviously told what to do. But the creative forces behind how it would look should most certainly get a demotion in some form.
1
NewtWhoGotBetter Mar 26, 2026 +1
It really does look quite unprofessional, almost like fanart. Even the concept alone is just very generic. I’m not gonna say the movie will be bad but the poster certainly doesn’t make me excited for it.
1
YesicaChastain Mar 25, 2026 +5
Looks like a Tubi Original, terrible art

Okay I don't like to judge books by their covers but this poster looks like an ad for a video game crossover. It looks like the new season of Fortnite. Which, maybe that was the intention, but it gives off direct to video vibes.
1
causeway19 Mar 25, 2026 +1
I thought we were getting a sequel to the last wish and now I don’t want to see it lol. Probably not the directors choice to market it like this though.
