Isnt that Fort Lauderdale? Like why not expand there?

Maybe because that is Broward county and not Miami-Dade. Why would the Miami-Dade government want an airport in Broward county, they wouldn't profit from it at all.

Governments have a love-hate relationship with airports because most voters want them nowhere near their houses

I want to have an airport less than 20 minutes away, but I never want to see or hear airplanes taking off and landing. Accommodate me!

Honestly I have pretty close to that with Boston Logan airport. There are places on the flight path that you can hear the planes but Boston proper typically has it really good.

Airports aren't super loud honestly. I live just one transit stop away from my nearest airport, and I never hear planes. Hell, Newark, Laguardia, Midway, and DCA are all immediately adjacent or surrounded by residential neighborhoods.

And those neighborhoods have extremely loud planes over head.

Small/hobby airports I can understand because prop planes use leaded fuel. But I've seen many people prefer proximity to the nearest airport (or a direct transit line there) because it's a huge convenience feature since a lot of people travel frequently for work. When looking for a place to live one time I even heard one person advertise that the property was "walking distance to XXX international airport"

Miami seems like a large cargo hub too from central and South America as well as the Caribbean. With FLL so close, adding a third airport seems crazy

Yes, but I honestly thought they just drop their cargo to be picked up in the Everglades at night without landing to save time?

And PBI is not too far, either

Yeah 3 major airports within 60 milers of each other is pretty wild when you think about it. Most metro areas are lucky to have one.

Just one more runway bro, please

On the one hand, Miami International airport is one of the worst airports I’ve ever had the displeasure of passing through. On the other hand, why???

So they can have two shit quality airports.

Miami is nowhere near as bad as the ridiculous monstrosity of Denver Airport. What a ridiculous airport.

I was in Miami 2 months ago. Was amazed at all the infrastructure projects going on -- considering its all going to be underwater in 40 years

How many airports does South Florida need?

cire1184 Apr 28, 2026 +4
More for the drug smuggling

I mean, per capita they have more people with their *own* planes than most places given that you mostly hear about extremely rich people moving there to avoid the taxes from places that enabled them to become extremely wealthy in the first place.

Trump Pedo International? Was this the one in the news awhile ago they were talking about?

ContessaChaos Apr 28, 2026 +8
That was Palm Beach, they've already rebranded it.

At this rate of pointless wars, half the country don’t want to spend a dime on traveling so why bother expanding. I’d be surprised if there’s not another airline going out of business soon.

Off topic. The discussion here is the airport expansion, not national travel trends.

I, too, would like to mock you.

Lmfao airport expansion isn’t tied to demand? Try harder pa.

Off topic. Rules lawyering is prohibited. No discussing any tangential topics either, such as "Nuh uh!", "No you are!", and certainly not "I'm telling mom!"

Bad bot. They’re clearly related.

The current one needs work. It looks like it hasn’t been renovated since it was opened.
