Because by 1980, things felt hopeless. carter meant well but inflation was killin us, gas lines were a nightmare, and the hostage crisis just dragged on. reagan talked about morning in america and i bought the hype. didn't know he'd gut social programs later. we were just tired and wanted a change. learned my lesson tho.

Carter, though well meaning and probably the only true Christian President in my lifetime, had made a complete mess out of things. Hostages in Iran and gas prices soared beyond the ability of gas pumps to display them. Then he decided to reinstate draft registration which killed his chances among young people.
