Miss Doublefinger’s name is a reference to New Years Day since the date is 1/1 (double finger) and high-ranking female agents of Baroque Works have codenames named after holidays or days of the week.
As for Daisy Head, she’s actually been in some major projects including Shadow & Bone as well as the Dungeons & Dragons movie. She’s also the daughter of Anthony Head who is best known for playing Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Rebecca’s ex-husband Rupert in Ted Lasso.

Fun fact, the male agents are clearly ranked by relative order of strength in number, but the female agents are ranked by Oda's relative perception of how "happy" the events are.

When Netflix stops seeing the ROI. Season one had an $18M/ep budget, which is pretty pricey.
Cast/production usually signs a 3 season contract (regardless of how many seasons get made) when a new show is ordered, so anything beyond season 3 means renegotiating salaries and expenses and those costs usually skyrocket.
That's why so many Netflix shows never make it to season 4
52
PiFlavoredPieMar 17, 2026

Season 3 is a reasonable stopping point if they don’t get renewed. There’s another good place to stop probably after Season 5 and another after Season 7 if you sort of extrapolate out the following arcs. After that I guess we’d basically be reaching the limits of what streaming TV can support financially probably, if not already.

At this point I actually think it's looking likely. Season 3 is already a lock, and IMO worst case scenario if they get renewed for a 4th and final season they could decide to skip Skypeia in order to end the series at the big climax that is Water 7. More likely they just get renewed for 2 more seasons and can get there naturally.

Which is why making any definitive conclusion about the reception of S2 is premature at this stage, there's a reason Netflix (allegedly) waits for 90-day numbers before making decisions about the future of the show.
Critics absolutely loved it, fans seem to agree it's a step up over S1, word of mouth should give S2 a good run for the coming weeks.
Also - and perhaps more importantly - One Piece is a massive IP, huge in markets where Netflix is trying to break into, lots of merchandising opportunities, and they also have the anime in their catalog. There is a lot of moving parts that can make it profitable for Netflix even if the show operates on a net loss (unlikely anyway).

I loved it. It got me started on the anime actually. For a bit of the live action one I had this thought that it reminded me a tad of something that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Then I figured out what it was: Dr. Who. The mild but necessary tinge of campiness. The roving from town to town and sussing out the villains. The present but not overbearing deus ex machina of the main character. And the slight unique creepiness of the villains. Heck toss in the "rag tag bunch travels from place to place in a.....ship" element. Just really well done. And the way they screenwrote certain anime tropes like "Luffy yet again triumphantly raises arms overhead and screams something" and made them work is really impressive.

It helps that the foundational writing of the series is already fantastic (which is bonkers if you know anything about how manga is usually made in Japan). In terms of numbers, absolutely.
I still think that the live-action Rurouni Kenshin series (5 films in total) is the best example of an anime adaptation, period.
They’re so good, I don’t think that you need to go to the original source material at all. They completely stand on their own as stylized samurai films.
It helps that the historical setting grounds the work more, so it doesn’t have *as many* anime “quirks” to it compared to how wild One Piece gets.

Most might not be aware but Netflix strategy for One Piece is not only based on the Live-Action: they hold in most countries the catalog of the anime (with more than 1000 episodes), but they also have a remake of the anime in production, plus the live action.
So, I would say that while there's a decrease, maybe in the end they have a good strategy put in place.

We've just genuinely lost the f****** plot when it comes to the success of TV shows.
As the *Variety* article says in the following graf: **It was still the most-watched show on Netflix by a wide margin; the runner up was a Morgan Freeman-narrated documentary about dinosaurs, at 9.6 million views.**
Each episode of S2 is just over 60 minutes long, and given that this past weekend had everything from The Oscars to The World Baseball Classic on live TV, it stands to reason that people were prioritizing their eyeballs elsewhere.
My wife and I love the show, and we only got around to watching the first episode last night. We usually do one ep an evening, after dinner. Somehow, viewers like me are seen as a show underperforming under this insane, immediate-numbers-and-metrics system piloted by Netflix.
S2 is an immediate improvement over the first one; the confidence from the cast and the production is plain to see. I'm glad it's already been greenlit for S3, which will (assumedly) cover Alabasta, Jaya, and maybe Skypeia. (Drum Island is 3 episodes in S2; I can't see Alabasta being any fewer, and using the remaining 5 for Jaya, and Skypeia, saving the big-ass fight with Eneru as the finale, makes sense to me.
Then a theoretical S4 could cover Water 7, Enies Lobby, and Thriller Bark.
What's fascinating to me is, again, the confidence being displayed here. In the first episode of S2, we're shown characters who **don't appear until 600+ chapters into the manga.** This is either the showrunners simply setting the table in case they need to end the series early in a satisfying way, or them genuinely planning to run for 7-10 seasons.
Netflix cannot keep landing the rights to beloved anime adaptations and then bailing on them. For all the rightful criticism of *Cowboy Bebop*, it deserved the 2-3 total seasons it needed to tell its story and figure its shit out. That's how TV shows used to work!

Alabasta is 38 episodes in the original vs. Drum Island’s 13.
I could easily see it taking up a majority of S3, with Jaya during the last 2 episodes to tease Skypiea.

Its adapting the manga not the anime and season 2 adapted roughly 60-odd chapters while alabasta by itself is a few chapters longer than what they covered in S2, I'm fairly confident s3 is adapting only Alabasta and we'll deserved, there's more than enough material for it
7
Massive_WeinerMar 18, 2026
+6
Yeah, so 63 chapters for Alabasta vs. the 25 for Drum Island (which translated to 3 episodes for the Netflix series).
No matter what version you’re looking at, the point remains exactly the same.
Both still add up to 6 episodes to fully cover Alabasta. Maybe they’ll add in some more original material, so I won’t d******* that.

I'm pretty sure they already said season 3 is entirely about Alabasta. Adding Jaya and Skypeia would be kind of insane.
Also, all the new cast members announced are entirely part of the Alabasta story line.

Don't forget multiple wars with a direct impact on most people's lives, economic forces decimating people, and massive layoffs...among the top factors impacting how a person can or is willing to engage in watching a show, let alone paying for Netflix.
Three years ago was a much calmer situation for most Netflix watchers.

Using "views" kind of undersells how much of a gap there was with Dinosaurs. Dinosaurs was a 3 hour mini-series so the 9.6m "views" was 29.9m hours viewed. One Piece S2 had 136.2m hours viewed (and S1 had 27.7m hours viewed on top of that). And given S2 is a bit longer than S1 was, the gap between S1 and S2 in terms of hours viewed is an even smaller margin than "views" presents (S1 had 140.1m hours viewed in its first four days). That's a 3% drop-off.
So I think One Piece will be fine and I don't think a small drop off in the first four days is going to be seen as the show underperforming. Would bet it has legs and stays in the top-ten for quite some time, as S1 did, and my hope is S4 will get announced early enough to start production soon after S3 is finished.

The built-in One Piece fandom is one of the biggest benefits, and as long as Oda, the creation of the series, remains happy with the direction of the LA fans, will continue to support the project.

Love the show - it's managed to capture the heart of the manga and hit most of the emotional moments well.
I do wonder how the pacing feels to viewers who haven't read the manga or watched the anime. There's plenty of changes and cuts (for time probably). I think they're mostly sensible changes but the downside is that it could feel rushed, the way they try to fit everything into 8 episodes.
Looking forward to more. It's unlikely they'll be able to tell most of the manga story but I'm looking forward to seeing how far it goes and how they realise some of the things coming later.

First show I have ever rewatched the first season to make sure I’m caught up for the 2nd
I watched maybe 100 episodes of One Piece before I lost interest. The art style was odd and the pacing of the show was monotonous.
The Netflix live action series is awesome. Every character is so well cast. The wardrobe and sets are immaculate. You can tell the guy who plays Luffy, Iñaki Godoy, is having the time of his life.

Insatiable money hungry sociopaths run these major companies, so a slight decrease is probably not what Netflix wanted to see here. But after a long layoff between seasons, I can see why the non One Piece fan audience may not have been as aware of season 2.
They already greenlit season 3 and that's supposed to come out in a more timely manner in around summer 2027 iirc.

They should have done weekly drops! I love being able to watch em all at once but it would keep conversation about the show going for a solid two months. Plus the anime is a weekly staple, would have been a nice nod. A week to digest each little arc and guess about what was coming next and talk about it online would have worked wonders. What the f*** do I know though? lol

I was thinking about Fallout, and for me, the first season was more interesting than the second. With One Piece, though, it’s the opposite—which isn’t too surprising, given that some of the issues with the live-action adaptation came down to budget constraints.

I've been loving the live action remake, but honestly it kind of sucks to think about the long term.
There's almost no way it will be finished before actors get too old or the older ones start dying. Unless they take a hatchet to the source material, or recast people.
Still gonna enjoy the ride, but I don't think it will get finished.

*Less* than season 1 debut? The show got a great reputation from season 1 and a shitload of people who had never heard of it now know about it and have probably become regular viewers. How does a show do better on a first season premier when the vast majority of its potential audience doesn't even know it exists? It's not like the quality took a nosedive and people stopped watching. Isn't it like one of the highest viewer-rated shows ever?

They're not only doing a live action, but Netflix has agreed to do an anime with the author Oda called "The One Piece". It's basically faithful to the manga, as Toei own half of the anime which is why it deviates and has filler.
They are going all in and I love it. S2 was amazing and makes me even more excited for S3.

The downsides are the long wait between season releases and the fact that the manga is not finished yet so the show will either have to end on a different note or wait til the manga is done
Out of the loop on that one, didn't Oda say something on the lines that we have entered the final stretch of the story?
