Of the nearly 850 streaming shows/films eligible across Netflix, Amazon, HBO Max and Disney+ only 38 are eligible for the hard fought for streaming residual bonuses negotiated in the 2023 strikes.
The writers guild in it's 2026 negotiations advocated for two choices higher bonuses for the winners or a lower bonus viewership threshold and writers voted for the higher bonuses for the handful of winners. (very, I would rather have the million dollar j****** than 20 people get $100k each of them).
This kinda selfishness is why we keep fighting the same fights. A rising tide lifts all boats. More writers doing well makes the entire industry better for writers. Fewer writers making all the money makes writing worse everywhere because it limits the talent pool, squeezing out the less affluent writers who may be better but have to keep working their day job until they give up entirely because breaking through is so difficult

Really weird how writers went for the l****** system instead of spreading it around more evenly. Working in therapy you see this pattern a lot where people choose high-risk high-reward even when steady progress would benefit everyone including themselves long term
The industry already has enough barriers for people who aren't already wealthy and this just makes another one

You will never change human nature especially when serious money is involved.

Big disagree. Humans are capable of great things. We've been slaves to many things that we have overcome and are overcoming. Greed is another chain we are still overcoming.
