Opinion. Which game is better for you? Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex or Sonic 4?

I’d pick The Wrath of Cortex because even if it’s kinda mid and repetitive it still feels like a full game, while Sonic 4, is shorter and more frustrating with weird physics that annoy more than they entertain

It is crazy how the loading screens on PS2 were longer than the actual levels.

The loading screens on PS2 were basically a lunch break, but the game is still way better than whatever Sega was doing with Sonic 4.

I've never played Sonic 4, but the handling and physics of Wrath of Cortex is dogshit. The entire game Crash handled like he was walking through treacle. There was also one level, that space shoot-em-up towards the end, where there was a bug that randomly made Crash explode and die mid-level.

played wrath of cortex for 6 hours straight A's and kid, got to the last boss, memory card corrupted. never recovered emotionally. so I'm picking Sonic 4 out of pure spite

Crash cause it's more platforming focused

Wrath of Cortex, easily. Yeah, the loading screens gave me enough time to graduate college and start a family, but at least it felt like a Crash game. Sonic 4's physics were so fundamentally broken it felt like Sonic was running through a vat of molasses.

Wrath of Cortex didn't feel like a genuine Crash game. The physics were laggy and floaty, the character design regressed from the PS1, the level design lacked the tight rhythm it was known for, and while Crash isn't known for serious narrative in general, the story and cutscenes felt like a knockoff, completely missing any of the characterization of the first four games. Seriously, most of the characters make a stronger impression in the Crash Team Racing character selection screen than the entirety of WoC. Considering the development story though, it's a small miracle anything released at all.

Wrath of Cortex. Mid Crash is still a full game Sonic 4 feels like a demo with trust issues

Never played Wrath of Cortex but I’m gonna pick it sight unseen over Sonic 4 🙃

played wrath of cortex for an entire summer as a kid and never got past the third world. bought Sonic 4 years later and couldn't get past the second zone. maybe platformers just aren't for me.

Crash at least felt like it was trying. Sonic 4 felt like it was trying to remember what trying felt like.

I’d go with Crash honestly. It’s not perfect, but it at least feels like a proper game you can sit and enjoy. Sonic 4 just feels off in a way that’s hard to ignore, especially if you’ve played the older Sonic games.

There is no sonic 4 Theres a 4th game but nothing explicitly called sonic 4. There's sonic 4 episode 1. Which is my choice

Depends. Wrath of Cortex > Episode 1 Episode 2 > Wrath of Cortex

Crash. Tbf, i didn't play much sonic, but i did some, and i was just more of a playforming game that i could most of the time go at my pace, and it was 3D. I also only had a playstation, and idk if sonic was on it or not.

Lowkey *Wrath of Cortex* and I don’t even think it’s close 😭 Sonic 4 just felt… off? Like it *looked* like classic Sonic but didn’t *feel* right. Crash at least knew what it was.

Spot on about Sonic 4's physics. The momentum just felt completely wrong compared to the Genesis classics. Wrath of Cortex takes the win for me too

lmao okay but like... that's not a comparison, that's just a declaration. what made crash click for you over sonic 4? because sonic 4 was kind of a mess and i won't fight anyone on that but i'm curious what the crash appeal is

I’m team Crash. The levels were fun, the characters were charming, and honestly, the frustration was part of the thrill. Sonic 4 made me nostalgic for the wrong reasons.

It pales next to the sequel, [Bubsy 3D: Bubsy Visits the James Turrell Retrospective](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubsy_3D:_Bubsy_Visits_the_James_Turrell_Retrospective).

Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, not amazing, but at least it feels like a full game. Sonic 4 just feels off.

Gotta go Crash, the only 3D Sonic worth a lick is Battle Adventure 2.

Crash. It's not Perfect, but it's better than Sonic 4 which feels like waste.
