Peter Magyar just posted on his facebook, Orban congratulated him over his victory. It seems 2/3 majority in the parliament for Magyar is all but guaranteed too.

Do you have any sources? Not that I doubt you but I am very curious about the results. Tisza needs 133 seats to get supermajority, right? If Tisza does not get the needed seats they still cannot do much I read.

The article linked here has been updated. >The Hungarian prime minister concedes to Péter Magyar, who is set to win a supermajority in the 199-seat parliament, early results signal.

That's amazing! I am very proud of the Hungarian people! Also thank you for sharing!

There is still time for this to be the 2nd best news today, but heck yeah go Hungary!
14
MlecznyHuxel99 Apr 12, 2026 +127
136 seats atm, and the number has only been increasing with the amount of counted votes [https://vtr.valasztas.hu/ogy2026](https://vtr.valasztas.hu/ogy2026)
127
TijnvandenEijnde Apr 12, 2026 +71
F*** yes! Make that 137, I think it just changed. Thanks for the source! 🇭🇺❤️

Aye it did with another 6% counted!

At some point we need to admit that JD Vance is bad luck.

The hilarious thing is the moment JD vance endorsed him Orbans Popularity in polls did suddenly crash

green_flash Apr 12, 2026 +373
That's because that day the transcript of Orbán's call with Putin was leaked the wherein he offered to be the "mouse" helping the Russian "lion". I know Americans like to meme about Vance, but his visit was really not that important.
373
zevonyumaxray Apr 12, 2026 +197
And at roughly the same time, it was leaked that the Hungarian foreign minister came from an EU ministers meeting about supporting Ukraine and immediately called some Russian official and told them all about it. Considering the violent Hungarian Revolution of 1956, I couldn't understand how the people were letting Orbán be so blatantly pro Russian.

I’ve heard rumours he’s resigning this week after the Liberals have a majority following the by-elections.
44
ouatedephoque Apr 12, 2026 +47
He can go back to delivering newspapers, the only job he's ever had outside of politics.
47
CaptianRipass Apr 12, 2026 +20
Why would he do that? He qualified for a pension at 31 years old...
20
Jessie-the-dog Apr 12, 2026 +10
Getting pushed out, most likely. The phoney leadership review only bought him a few months. Losing 5 MPs and watching the Liberals get a majority were the last nails in his coffin.
10
Tired8281 Apr 12, 2026 +5
Not sure I'd call delivering newspapers in Canada nonpolitical, considering our media landscape.
5
EarEnvironmental8134 Apr 12, 2026 +6
As great as that would be, I can’t see it happening.
6

The fact that this regime doesn't realize how most of the rest of the world view them with disgust is funny to me. Like they actually believe some of their delusions
71

The world is the USA to them.
5
MongoBongoTown Apr 12, 2026 +127
Especially in Europe. Crazy how treating a whole region of allies like dog shit for years at behest of your Russian handlers will make your country less liked in that region.
127
PrincessNakeyDance Apr 12, 2026 +28
You don’t even need a brain anymore. The US is directly responsible for increasing the cost of living for everyone in the world. That’s very difficult to ignore. Even if you normally chug the fascist propaganda.
28
Blbe-Check-42069 Apr 12, 2026 +10
Which is funny because if you told me that a decade ago I would be like "huh??"

Only thing that the Russian bootlickers in Eastern Europe hate more than the EU, is the US. Lol
20
Fickle-Cake6637 Apr 12, 2026 +25
Didn't his regime seem very US like before Vance landed with his size 11's? As a non white person both these teqms have significant isues.
25
Mecha_Butterfree Apr 12, 2026 +17
Would be more accurate to say the current US government is very Hungary like. Orban has been in power since 2010. He has been very conservative that whole time and has actively moving Hungary to the right. In fact US conservatives have long looked to him as a model to emulate. Much of what they have done since Trump took office again is following his playbook except they are dumber so the are doing it worse.

People disliked Trudeau much more than they liked PP. Once he was gone the Cons still had a 50/50 chance but the 51st state stuff and PP’s slow reaction sealed the deal.

Get better, it currently looks like they will get a supermajority of over 133 out of 199 seats. This is important to deal with friends of Orban in powerfull government positions. And to reverse some of the constitutional changes Orban did.
70
Ok-Care-7132 Apr 12, 2026 +28
How f****** awesome would it be to see Putin's pet project completely reject him and the country actually prosper?
28
EQandCivfanatic Apr 12, 2026 +13
Ironically, not the first time Hungarians have repudiated Moscow. Thankfully, it looks like it'll go better than 1956 did.
13
green_flash Apr 12, 2026 +22
Good news is putting it mildly. This is an earthquake. When it comes to seats for direct candidates, It looks like the opposition will win the seat in 95 constituencies, the government party only in a mere 11 constituencies.

Kind of a rule with him right? He goes to talk to Iran, the talks collapse. Man tries thing, thing implodes. To be fair, when he ran he wasn't hiding it. I think the time he tried to order a donut on his own was a good guide for us to set our expectations to.

Excellent news for Hungary. They are potentially closing in on the 2/3 majority needed to unravel many of the changes to their Constitution that Orban made. Also it’s a disaster of a week for J.D. Vance who basically is being sent to take the blame for every Trump foreign policy faceplant. Good. F*** J.D. Vance.

His party’s constitutional changes were certainly made to enable some authoritarian tendencies. Dictator is harsh, but the underlying elements and changes to the constitution were certainly in that direction

Authoritarian is probably the more accurate term.

At least so far, over 45% votes counted and 135 for Magyar. If things keep like this, it is a very good day for Hungary and Europe! Hopefully this year will be the year every Russian puppet / asset will be out of the governments to make Europe progress faster.

To get obliterated, more like. The opposition appears likely to have won a supermajority! Orban has actually already conceded!

I would love for the existence of Trump to be the death knell of fascism in the western world for a time.

This landslide is coming for the Republicans in November. This is the end of the fascist wave that has gripped the west. The people are rising.

Is this the best news of the year so far? I’m kind of excited this might be a resoundingly positive bellwether.

Van_Scarlette Apr 12, 2026 +7
I don’t want to celebrate early, but damn, I can’t help but become excited

yeasayerstr Apr 12, 2026 +4
Not to make this about the US, but as an American this is doubly satisfying on a day when JD Vance had already proven what an inconsequential piece of shit he already is by failing to negotiate with the Iranians. Anyway, congratulations to the Hungarians for recognizing they deserve so much more than empty rhetoric and false promises.

Hopefully this is the start of the downfall of this horrible wave of far-right bullshit across the globe.

What scares me is that 30% of the votes are counted and 40% of those still voted for this bag of dicks. You can't really trust people with making decisions. What is democracy worth if all people do is f*** shit up for everyone.

Hopefully the treasonous weasel is absolutely crushed like early results suggest.
