She also didn’t do Hollywood movies, she pretty much stuck to French films (outside of a cameo in Dear Brigitte I believe) so it makes sense that the academy (a US/Hollywood based org) didn’t include her simply based on that fact. Her reputation certainly didn’t help either but I’m assuming the first part was the major reason.

They did include Claudia Cardinale, who didn't work much in Hollywood either

Yep. There's no reason for her to be included at the Oscars. Even if people do see it as a snub, imo they should snub more trash people.

"Brigitte Bardot, a 1950s-60s French cinema icon and sexual liberation symbol, became a highly problematic figure in her later years. She was convicted five times for inciting racial hatred, primarily targeting Muslims, and was known for far-right political views, anti-immigration stances, homophobic slurs, and criticizing the #MeToo movement."
Yeah, can't imagine why they left her out.

She is included in memoriam on the Oscars website along with other people who weren't shown during the broadcast.

That is the Academy’s way of avoiding criticism from either side. If they showed her during the show, the internet would go wild. In the in memoriam website, no one will see it but they can tell her fans she’s there to make them happy. It’s a smart decision tbh

The website is seen by far fewer people than the broadcast, and is less likely to drum up a "Oscars support bigot with In Memoriam inclusion" headlines

There are always bad people on the in memoriam reel. It’s more about their contribution to film than personal behavior. Alain Delon being omitted is wild.

Oh for goodness sake, she is listed on the academy's website. This is all about page clicks, let's try to get everyone angry about the injustice done to Brigitte Bardot. The fact is "In Memoriam" is a curated TV spot. You're never going to make everyone happy, someone will always complain about the editorial decisions. If you want to see who died, go to the website.

I get it but I also don’t get it because she was a huge movie star.
They literally award/nominate shitty people every year.
Sean Penn and Brad Pitt are both violent thugs.
So I feel that they should stop with the hypocritical bullshit. Either hold everyone accountable or don’t even bother.

Brad has two Oscar’s and is a voting member of the Academy.
Further, you don’t know what society will be like when he passes. He too could be skipped.
Best not to make assumptions about things like this.

Every person that people are complaining was omitted is on the in memoriam on the website. There are 300 people on the list. I guess we should just have a 5 hour in memoriam during the ceremony so nobody complains about not being on the broadcast.

You know, this happens every year. It's hard to keep track of everyone, and someone inevitably gets left out. I don't think there's anything sinister behind it; it's somebody's job and they accidentally overlooked someone.

True, but those were almost 20 years ago. Not defending her, but if she were still alive and did it again this time, she wouldn't be charged because the situation in France has changed dramatically from 20 years ago.
I should also mention that in 2014, Bardot wrote an open letter demanding the ban in France of Jewish ritual slaughter, shechita, because she was an animal rights activist.
