She also didn’t do Hollywood movies, she pretty much stuck to French films (outside of a cameo in Dear Brigitte I believe) so it makes sense that the academy (a US/Hollywood based org) didn’t include her simply based on that fact. Her reputation certainly didn’t help either but I’m assuming the first part was the major reason.

They did include Claudia Cardinale, who didn't work much in Hollywood either
13
Pyro-Bird Mar 17, 2026 +14
But she did star in English language films.

HereOnCompanyTime Mar 17, 2026 +12
Yep. There's no reason for her to be included at the Oscars. Even if people do see it as a snub, imo they should snub more trash people.

FantasticBumblebee0 Mar 17, 2026 +3
Neither did Akira Kurosawa but he was included

nicosloft04 Mar 17, 2026 +151
because she did French movies. They left out Eric Dane and James Van Der Beek cuz they were more known for TV

One film from the 90s ?

lykathea2 Mar 17, 2026 +5
He was good in Rules Of Attraction a few years later as well. So one from the 90's and one from the early 00's.

He was great in academy award snubbed Jay and silent Bob strike back

TheJaybo Mar 18, 2026 +3
I mean they included some random ass lawyer in there. I think they could have fit one guy who recently died and actually starred in a movie at some point.

burritobandito90 Mar 17, 2026 +6
Doesn’t mean he ever joined the academy.
6
Crafty_Substance_954 Mar 18, 2026 +2
More likely that they weren’t members of the academy
2
NickCrowder Mar 17, 2026 +2
So foreign movies don’t win Academy awards?

She was an absolutely beautiful woman. She was also snooker f****** loopy.

"Brigitte Bardot, a 1950s-60s French cinema icon and sexual liberation symbol, became a highly problematic figure in her later years. She was convicted five times for inciting racial hatred, primarily targeting Muslims, and was known for far-right political views, anti-immigration stances, homophobic slurs, and criticizing the #MeToo movement." Yeah, can't imagine why they left her out.

Pyro-Bird Mar 17, 2026 +65
She is included in memoriam on the Oscars website along with other people who weren't shown during the broadcast.

lexiebeef Mar 17, 2026 +40
That is the Academy’s way of avoiding criticism from either side. If they showed her during the show, the internet would go wild. In the in memoriam website, no one will see it but they can tell her fans she’s there to make them happy. It’s a smart decision tbh

Scheme84 Mar 17, 2026 +7
The website is seen by far fewer people than the broadcast, and is less likely to drum up a "Oscars support bigot with In Memoriam inclusion" headlines
7
Background-Jury-1914 Mar 17, 2026 +22
There are always bad people on the in memoriam reel. It’s more about their contribution to film than personal behavior. Alain Delon being omitted is wild.
22
ancientestKnollys Mar 17, 2026 +12
Presumably he was omitted because he didn't really do Hollywood films.
12
procrastablasta Mar 17, 2026 +5

It’s good to remember Delon at any time!

Her own son wanted nothing to do with her.

She is fantastic in Clouzot's "La Vérité", but yes i agree her carrer is far from fantastic

Puncomfortable Mar 17, 2026 +6
She wasn't a Hollywood actress? It's not that deep.
6
ancientestKnollys Mar 17, 2026 +6
Presumably Bardot and Delon were omitted due to not being Hollywood actors and actresses.

pasterhatt Mar 17, 2026 +30
Noted racist Brigitte Bardot? Going to be pissed when they don't bring up Weinstein?
30
gbcox Mar 17, 2026 +11
Oh for goodness sake, she is listed on the academy's website. This is all about page clicks, let's try to get everyone angry about the injustice done to Brigitte Bardot. The fact is "In Memoriam" is a curated TV spot. You're never going to make everyone happy, someone will always complain about the editorial decisions. If you want to see who died, go to the website.

RealCarlosSagan Mar 17, 2026 +3
Didn't they omit her as well at the Cesars?
3
BatFun7276 Mar 17, 2026 +6
Of course French press which is mostly made of far right papers now, would be shocked about that. Racism is fine for them, even promoted so when an other big media outlet doesn't follow their xenophobic footsteps, they ask why and get petty lmao

Unusual_Flounder2073 Mar 17, 2026 +12
Somehow every year they miss someone.

Or the intern *did* the research on Bardot and that’s why she was omitted. I applaud whoever made that call.

Alain Delon had ties to Mafia, may have had a man killed and was a piece of shit to his kids and wife [https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20240818-alain-delon-france-s-flawed-screen-god](https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20240818-alain-delon-france-s-flawed-screen-god)

I get it but I also don’t get it because she was a huge movie star. They literally award/nominate shitty people every year. Sean Penn and Brad Pitt are both violent thugs. So I feel that they should stop with the hypocritical bullshit. Either hold everyone accountable or don’t even bother.

Dry_Accident_2196 Mar 17, 2026 +2
Brad has two Oscar’s and is a voting member of the Academy. Further, you don’t know what society will be like when he passes. He too could be skipped. Best not to make assumptions about things like this.

aaronappleseed Mar 17, 2026 +1
Every person that people are complaining was omitted is on the in memoriam on the website. There are 300 people on the list. I guess we should just have a 5 hour in memoriam during the ceremony so nobody complains about not being on the broadcast.

I'm in France and I'm sorry to report that no ones is asking that question. No one cares enough.

ubermonkeyprime Mar 17, 2026 +1
You know, this happens every year. It's hard to keep track of everyone, and someone inevitably gets left out. I don't think there's anything sinister behind it; it's somebody's job and they accidentally overlooked someone.

editorguyhank Mar 18, 2026 +1
David Lynch and Peter Greene as well
1
iplaybassok89 Mar 20, 2026 +1
David Lynch was on the one for the 2025 awards as he died in January of last year.

I love Alain. He and Brigitte should have been included. They were huge stars.

PurchaseDry9350 Mar 17, 2026 +2
2 far right people snubbed, what's the issue
2
Beginning-Passion676 Mar 17, 2026 +1
Because they support far right party
1
BlerghTheBlergh Mar 17, 2026
So, with all the omissions being so public - who was even included at that point?

CommonStrawbeary Mar 18, 2026
She was a bigot who gives af
0
iplaybassok89 Mar 20, 2026 +1
Yeah. Who gives a f*** about that indeed
1
CommonStrawbeary Mar 20, 2026 +1
Exactly why would anyone care that a bigot got excluded.
1
Diddlemyloins Mar 19, 2026 -1
She was so islamaphobic that she was censored by the French government. Imagine being too racist for the French.
-1
Pyro-Bird Mar 19, 2026 +1
True, but those were almost 20 years ago. Not defending her, but if she were still alive and did it again this time, she wouldn't be charged because the situation in France has changed dramatically from 20 years ago. I should also mention that in 2014, Bardot wrote an open letter demanding the ban in France of Jewish ritual slaughter, shechita, because she was an animal rights activist.
