they should stop making it so hard to watch. If it's solely on youtube for subscribers say goodbye to MOST.

People losing interest in a celebrity circlejerk while real things happen in the world? Shocking.

Gas prices up, groceries up, car payments underwater, and retirement savings evaporating, but yeah let's watch a celebration of multi-millionaires jerking each other off.

I tuned in just for Conan.

People don’t watch movies the same way they did in decades past. Ten/fifteen years ago most people saw - or at least knew of - some of the Best Picture nominees. That’s no longer the case. So it makes sense that fewer and fewer people are watching the Oscars. I woke up Monday morning not knowing the Oscars were on the previous night. That wouldn’t have been possible ten years ago.

So much this, I haven't gone to a movie theatre in two years, and I rarely can name more than 1-2 movies up for awards anymore.

The viewers have been dwindling year after year. Does anyone purposefully sit down to watch the Oscars? I just always viewed it as one of those things that just ends up being on in the background in the average household.

You’ve honestly never heard of an Oscar watch party?

AllISeeAreFireworks Mar 18, 2026 -2
You've never heard of anyone asking a rhetorical question?
-2
MichaelMyersEatsDogs Mar 19, 2026 +2
“Why do you keep replying even though I’ll keep replying!!!!!!”
2
MichaelMyersEatsDogs Mar 18, 2026 +2
Yes. And they usually have obvious answers. Which is yours did but you seem to have come to the opposite conclusion of.

Dude, hop your ignorant ass off my "Reply" button.

I used to tune in for many years but now just read the recap the next day. Not interested in the acceptance speeches, monologue or musical numbers. I still miss Joan Rivers’ fashion critiques.

It’s too long and it always has been. Even back in the day we would flip it on and only really watch the more popular categories.

metallee98 Mar 19, 2026 +1
Make it easy to watch and i'll tune in. The clips that matter will be cut and posted on randoms socials hours later anyway so it's no big loss.

I'm gonna be honest, I only watch for Conan. So, I only watched the highlight, monologue clip, opening skit and skip the actual award

Wow, thought it would be more

Probably doesn’t help that nobody has seen any of the movies that were nominated

The two front runners have been the most talked about movies all year. What are you talking about?

LadyLassitude Mar 18, 2026 +1
Seriously, I wish people had this much vitriol for f****** football.

The Oscars aren’t equivalent to football. They’re the equivalent of an awards show for football players. The analogue for football would be the movie itself.
-1
MichaelMyersEatsDogs Mar 18, 2026
If anything the analogue would be the Super Bowl as it’s the culmination of the prior year with a definitive w*****
0
Johnnadawearsglasses Mar 18, 2026
I mean it's absolutely not. The Super Bowl is a game. Just like the other football games. If you like football, you like the Super Bowl. The Oscars is purely an award show. There's no movie during the Oscars. It's perfectly normal for someone to like movies and not care at all for the awards show.

MichaelMyersEatsDogs Mar 18, 2026 +1
Why did you ask a question if you’re just gonna block me?
1
MichaelMyersEatsDogs Mar 18, 2026 -1
It’s literally the pinnacle of the industry. Trying to make a one to one analogy is stupid begin to with but acting like the Oscar’s and the ESPYs are the same in their respective fields is even dumber
-1
Johnnadawearsglasses Mar 18, 2026 +1
Who mentioned the ESPYs? Why not the NFL end of season awards like the MVP, or offensive player of the year. Literally the Oscars of football. I'm not sure what's so difficult about this for you. You have an entertainment medium. Movies. You have another entertainment medium. Professional sports. The output of one is the movie. The output of the other is the game. Those are the products. The fact that there are awards shows rewarding who made the best product for both is also clear. So what are you missing? Because I can't believe this is that complicated for anyone who can operate a keyboard.

MichaelMyersEatsDogs Mar 18, 2026 +2
You better not have a single hobby that involves any sort of entertainment and that includes sports

I’ll watch if they hire Ricky Gervais to moderate
