‘Packaging evil into something funny’: is making fun of Trump now just ‘clownwashing’? As the president’s second term has wrought new horrors, comedians reflect on whether humor can still ‘deflate the strongman’s image
Yup. SNL thinks they’re being witty but they’re trivializing the downfall of our democracy as if laughing at it has any impact. It only minimizes the situation when what we really need is exactly the opposite so that we can empower everyone to take action, protest, and come out and vote.

True but it’s not their job. It’s hard new’s job to point out the horrors and parody is to just make us not feel so depressed about it. I think their is room for both but as long as both are doing job.

I've been saying for a little more than a year now that the time for humor has passed.

Norm McDonald called it low hanging fruit pretty early on.

Conan has too, but has also been making a few more remarks on his podcasts about the current state of affairs so it's hard to not do so every now and then (And don't like when he hosted the Oscars) but yeah, when it becomes your only thing after a while it's just "Are you going to do anything about it..."

We need to confront the reality that if he didn't appear stupid, he would be very obviously treasonous. There is not an aspect of America he has not weakened, from disaster and pandemic preparedness, to foreign relations, to education.
Don't ignore his financial, foreign, and criminal conflicts of interest just because he's a clown. He isn't serving the country. He is dismantling it for whoever shows him money or blackmail.

Yeah, he should be the opposite of a joke. He should be a Jason Voorhees who rampages through sketches ruining everyone’s good time.

Sadly, nobody laughs at Trump jokes.
You have to be able to breathe in order to laugh...

The man has the thinnest skin possible. The smallest perceived slight will set him off on another insane social media rant. If you’ve got an audience and you’re trying to mock him but he doesn’t care then you’re doing something wrong.

Obviously not. Everything is a joke now instead of actual repercussions....it's why I stopped watching John Oliver.....half of the shit he shows is crazy and frightening not funny at all
