A mediator doesn't have to be completely impartial; and I doubt anyone in the U.S. forgot that they allowed Bin Laden to live in a villa near a Pakistani military base.

>a Pakistani military base It was the Pakistani equivalent of westpoint

It’s even funnier when you consider the fact that the average Pakistani will argue that they weren’t the ones hiding osama and that we just pretended to find him there to make them look bad lmfao

i'm sure no one dares to remind the orange mussolini of the bin laden villa, as it was a obama victory.

Just like how they hid Osama for years or harbour Tehreek Taliban.

Pakistan literally copy pasted a tweet given by the US to sway the stock market. At no point were they even a little impartial

Well Qatar was 'mediating' between hama$ and Israel, while providing material, financial support to hamas...

Skrivus May 12, 2026 -11
Israel was also sending $ to Hamas via Qatar as well to prevent PA from gaining a foothold in Gaza.

I'll say it again Pakistan is the worst country in the world

The worst country in the world negotiated a peace between the second and third worst countries in the world.

That peace {deal} which fell apart within a day?
15
Crimson_Marksman May 12, 2026
It's better than nothing, isn't it? No other country even tried.

Nerracui0 May 12, 2026 +5
The reason nobody tried is because nobody wanted to be between a cliff and a car coming towards them. There is no incentive in trying to formulate peace talks with countries that either have no form of communication between it's military or it's goverment, or whose president openly lies and goes back on his word ever other day.

Crimson_Marksman May 12, 2026 +1
Peace talks don't happen between countries who are friends, they obviously start as enemies.

And one of the US negotiators has ridiculously large financial ties to Saudi Arabia, Iran's largest rival in the Gulf.

Longjumping_Soil2116 May 11, 2026 +19
But the US and Iran are the two parties in the conflict, of course they'd have opposing interests

Kyell May 11, 2026 +9
It still sounds like a major conflict of interest. Does he consider his own financial ties and interests or the USAs and to some degree even Irans?

GreatGojira May 11, 2026 +24
Well Trump surrendered to Pakistan of all countries.

Parking planes is a conflict of interest but accepting planes worth a half bill as gifts is not. Edit: spell correction

Pakistani have to be nice to Iran, because at the end they are neighbors, and let's be honest they aren't always the best of neighbors. Iran has attacked Pakistan in the past.

Eh, the article said it was after the ceasefire so I don’t see what the issue is. If hostilities break out again and it tries to be used, I can’t imagine it would last long.

What's surprising is that it survived all the bombings. I expected some assets to survive, simply because trump & co are so adamant that the entire military was destroyed. I'm a little surprised though that such a huge plane would have been one of the ones that made it through. We really have no idea the scale of their underground facilities.

Is this a big thing somehow? E.g. the US has been feeding intelligence and billions of dollars worth of advanced weapons systems to Ukraine, while having a mediator role between Ukraine and Russia. Whataboutism is not my point here. Mainly I am utterly perplexed that the news is framed as if a mediator is expected to have absolutely nothing to do with either party.

PhDinDildos_Fedoras May 12, 2026 +7
Yes, exactly. And Pakistan does awful things all the time. Something this lame isn't even in the same ballpark of awfulness that Pakistan is capable of.

Nextasy May 12, 2026 +2
For real, who do they want to be the mediator? Vanuatu?

crazyworldgig May 12, 2026 +2
I mean back stabbing is a national sport of Pakistan.

So are they interning the planes for the duration of the conflict or allowing Iranian planes to operate?

Why have the UN in US?  Put UN on a neutral island.  No country should have any advantage on what is supposed to be an global intergovernmental organization.
