Regime change and stopping Iran's nuclear program were both objectives. Trump failed at both spectacularly.

No one has done this for 50 years because it's well known to fail.... So complete failure. Ass objectives that are unattainable. Just showed the world how unbelievably weak we are tho so that's cool.
1
YuppiesEverywhereMay 6, 2026
+7
Regime change wasn't a direct objective. The US Administration was hoping the Iranian people would do the regime change themselves. They didn't.
And the US was told that we stopped Iran's nuclear program with the B-2 bomber strike a few months before. Said it was a total success. I guess it wasn't a total success.
7
Generic_Superhero6 days ago

Regime change was an objective. Decapitating the current regime and encouraging the Iranians to rise up and vague promises of support was how they went about that goal.
And obviously not, but dont try and point that out that little discrepancy with his supporters.
1
Fritzo2162May 6, 2026

They seem to have created that objective after the fact. Their initial story was "they're a terrorist threat."

The objective was to distract from Trump being a rapist, and secondarily for him to show he has a bigger d*** than Obama.

As for Israel, while it remains to be seen, realizing that your top leadership can be pretty easily wiped out might just be a decent incentive for the new leadership to leave Israel alone.
The Israelis can dream anyway.

Before the war we heard a lot about water shortages in Iran. What we never really hear about is what the Iranian regime may do to create distractions from internal issues. I guess we think that’s something only America does. Which is to say, maybe Iran needs to keep people talking about Israel.

That was their original sky high demands, I’m sure it will be more reasonable.
Either way, whatever deal happens, it will be far worse than the one Obama had a f****** decade ago. But we already know Trump couldn’t let a black man have a deal, so he ripped it up to make a far far far worse deal and will call it a win.
Can’t wait to see how conservatives spin the narrative when Trump gives away tens of billions to Iran and justify how smart their glorious leader is.

They don't have a lot of choices here. They have to get large sum of cash injection. Iran's economy is ruined. Without the cash injection to stabilize the economy and a foreign enemy to point to, the regime will fall. This is why I don't see the US and Israel to defer the nuclear talk and proxy network funding to later dates. Iran's collapsing economy is their main leverage.
18
PapaSheev7May 6, 2026

Yeah both sides started off with entirely unreasonable positions as you do when negotiating to maximize their potential leverage. If/when we do get peace we'll likely see terms that are far more "down the middle" so to speak, compared to the nonsense the two sides were asking for.

They always spin it in insane ways. My mom truly thinks he is doing “great things” for the country. I do journalism in global affairs and conflicts. I pulled up cold hard stats with sources, showing factually how we are in a worse spot now and how Trump has fucked the nation over.
She just says “Well, we just have to accept we disagree”.
I wanted to lose it. I said “You are ignoring facts because for some reason you can’t say anything bad about him, despite claiming to be independent. If you are afraid of looking dumb because he duped you, it looks way worse now than just admitting it.”
We aren’t exactly close. But the point is, they will total spin it and it just blows my mind.

Then, at the very bottom, in the tiniest print known to man:
“Also, we will probably revisit Iran’s nuclear capabilities at some point and America will immediately withdraw and Iran will continue to tax passage through the strait”

1
I_am_ZuulMay 6, 2026

Because that comically short for things like this. There are several sticking points between the two sides and I highly doubt all of that will be meaningfully covered via a one page memo.
It also doesn’t add a lot of confidence that the only two groups saying an agreement is close is the U.S. (has been lying about this from the start) and Pakistan (clearly on the U.S. side and have been an active participant during this).
It’s a sad world where I have to say: “I’ll believe it when Iran acknowledges it”
