> The war had no objective. Regime change and stopping Iran's nuclear program were both objectives. Trump failed at both spectacularly.
37
topdownyeti May 6, 2026 +25
I don’t get when people say there were no objectives because there clearly were. On the other hand, there were no well thought plans.
25
galahad423 May 6, 2026 +7
But were there “concepts of a plan”
7
FirefighterLeft5425 6 days ago +1
No one has done this for 50 years because it's well known to fail.... So complete failure. Ass objectives that are unattainable. Just showed the world how unbelievably weak we are tho so that's cool.
1
YuppiesEverywhere May 6, 2026 +7
Regime change wasn't a direct objective. The US Administration was hoping the Iranian people would do the regime change themselves. They didn't. And the US was told that we stopped Iran's nuclear program with the B-2 bomber strike a few months before. Said it was a total success. I guess it wasn't a total success.
7
Generic_Superhero 6 days ago +1
Regime change was an objective. Decapitating the current regime and encouraging the Iranians to rise up and vague promises of support was how they went about that goal. And obviously not, but dont try and point that out that little discrepancy with his supporters.
1
Fritzo2162 May 6, 2026 +2
They seem to have created that objective after the fact. Their initial story was "they're a terrorist threat."
2
Middcore May 6, 2026 +50
>The war had no objective.  The objective was to distract from Trump being a rapist, and secondarily for him to show he has a bigger d*** than Obama. Never forget the dude's entire political career was motivated by Obama making fun of him.
50
NetZeroSun May 6, 2026 +24
Media are not talking about epstein or ICE. Sounds like a mission accomplished. Now he will queue up Cuba right before mid terms to boast of his big brain and genius strategy and chant usa. So that trump voters will cheer his success.
24
Bobcat-Stock May 6, 2026 +6
I’m pretty sure Trumpstein drew first blood with the whole birtherism bs, but yeah he was embarrassed and now the world suffers because he’s a child

VvvlvvV May 6, 2026 +6
Israel wanted to remove Iran as a threat for a generation, and Trump is an idiot who needed a distraction.
6
jaymickef May 6, 2026 +2
Also the Saudis wanted Iran weakened.
2
IAmAGenusAMA 6 days ago +1
As for Israel, while it remains to be seen, realizing that your top leadership can be pretty easily wiped out might just be a decent incentive for the new leadership to leave Israel alone. The Israelis can dream anyway.
1
jaymickef 6 days ago +3
Before the war we heard a lot about water shortages in Iran. What we never really hear about is what the Iranian regime may do to create distractions from internal issues. I guess we think that’s something only America does. Which is to say, maybe Iran needs to keep people talking about Israel.
3
HarithBK May 6, 2026 +2
What do you mean this war did exactly what Israel wanted they got to take out the heads of the Iran government by tricking trump. It is a roaring success from the real planners of the war.
2
pagesid3 6 days ago +1
That’s the plan? Just cut and run and assume whoever rises to leadership next in Iran is friendlier to Israel after firebombing their country? Or is it just revenge for the terror attack in Israel
1
HarithBK 6 days ago +1
Just revenge it seems
1
Fritzo2162 May 6, 2026 +1
They absolutely thought that. They figured they would level everything and have nothing to fight back with. Turns out Iran isn't centralized, giving them a surprised Pikachu face.

dude_Im_hilarious May 6, 2026 +159
Yeah but Iran wants a toll booth and lots of money from us to rebuild destroyed infrastructure. That won’t ever happen.
159
Neat_Egg_2474 May 6, 2026 +127
That was their original sky high demands, I’m sure it will be more reasonable. Either way, whatever deal happens, it will be far worse than the one Obama had a f****** decade ago. But we already know Trump couldn’t let a black man have a deal, so he ripped it up to make a far far far worse deal and will call it a win. Can’t wait to see how conservatives spin the narrative when Trump gives away tens of billions to Iran and justify how smart their glorious leader is.
127
AmamiHarukIsMaiWaifu 6 days ago +18
They don't have a lot of choices here. They have to get large sum of cash injection. Iran's economy is ruined. Without the cash injection to stabilize the economy and a foreign enemy to point to, the regime will fall. This is why I don't see the US and Israel to defer the nuclear talk and proxy network funding to later dates. Iran's collapsing economy is their main leverage.
18
PapaSheev7 May 6, 2026 +9
Yeah both sides started off with entirely unreasonable positions as you do when negotiating to maximize their potential leverage. If/when we do get peace we'll likely see terms that are far more "down the middle" so to speak, compared to the nonsense the two sides were asking for.
9
rje946 May 6, 2026 +2
It's economic "jiu jitsu" lmao
2

I'm extremely skeptical of any peace agreement holding. Every previous ceasefire has had the IRCG continue firing. I don't think Iran's negotiators have control of their military

I cannot wait to see Trump/MAGA spin this as “total victory” regardless of what it is when in reality we’ll be lucky to get back to where we already were with Obama’s agreement with Iran.

Frequent_Can117 6 days ago +1
They always spin it in insane ways. My mom truly thinks he is doing “great things” for the country. I do journalism in global affairs and conflicts. I pulled up cold hard stats with sources, showing factually how we are in a worse spot now and how Trump has fucked the nation over. She just says “Well, we just have to accept we disagree”. I wanted to lose it. I said “You are ignoring facts because for some reason you can’t say anything bad about him, despite claiming to be independent. If you are afraid of looking dumb because he duped you, it looks way worse now than just admitting it.” We aren’t exactly close. But the point is, they will total spin it and it just blows my mind.

My guess? Trump will say something along the lines of: “Iran has given in to my negotiating prowess and will open the Strait of Hormuz effectively immediately” Then, at the very bottom, in the tiniest print known to man: “Also, we will probably revisit Iran’s nuclear capabilities at some point and America will immediately withdraw and Iran will continue to tax passage through the strait” He’s a f****** joke, his sycophants are a f****** joke, and his supporters are a f****** joke. Now, thanks to them, we’re all a f****** joke, too.

26
inquisitive_guy_0_1 May 6, 2026 +3
Honestly f*** Axios for their part in all this. Every week is a new Axios article about (known inveterate liar) sources say peace is just around the corner or some other such bullshit. It's beyond tiring. Stop repeating the lies of these people who are incapable of an honest word. Stop acting like their word means a damn thing. It doesn't. Anyone even paying the slightest bit of attention could tell you that. Axios is nothing but a mouthpiece of this criminal regime of liars.

1 page? That will have some uber vague language that can be interpreted so many ways. “Dont attack boats in the strait of Hormuz”. Okay well then I am going to harass them with small boats that are armed to the teeth. I will fire fake shaheed drones with no warhead out at boats. None of its attacking. My statements of work on maintenance contracts with a pre-qualified contractor are longer than that. I got it down to 6 pages.

9
Neat_Egg_2474 May 6, 2026 +1
Iran is literally in a power vacuum caused by our own inept “department of war” head Pete hegseth. Killing everyone that can negotiate in good faith leads to a struggle between the irgc and civilian leadership. I bet the civilians are working on peace but the fractioned irgc leadership will fight to the end. In other words, our current leadership are beyond stupid.. not to mention they are sending REAL ESTATE billionaires to try and negotiate a geopolitical shit storm. They truly are the dumbest fucks alive

A one page “memo”? Is this not similar to the last time when they all started arguing about what was in it half an hour after it supposedly started? Is it written in crayon as well?
1
Dougalishere May 6, 2026 +1
in that meeting Iran turned up with tons of specilists in each planned negotiating subject and JD and the wonderkids started adding new stuff to the things to be discussed while refusing to actually engage unless it was to talk about the us demands and half the day was spent on them trying to reorganise the subject matter of the negations

1
Stunning_Bed23 May 6, 2026 +1
Why does the length of the memo matter?
1
I_am_Zuul May 6, 2026 +7
Because that comically short for things like this. There are several sticking points between the two sides and I highly doubt all of that will be meaningfully covered via a one page memo. It also doesn’t add a lot of confidence that the only two groups saying an agreement is close is the U.S. (has been lying about this from the start) and Pakistan (clearly on the U.S. side and have been an active participant during this). It’s a sad world where I have to say: “I’ll believe it when Iran acknowledges it”
7
Immediate-Goose-8106 May 6, 2026 +1
Because that is already longer than anything Trump would read.  Unless it has pictures, diagrams and his name every 5th word.
