Paradise might have jumped the shark.

This last episode had me rolling my eyes. I had high hopes. Oh well.

Apart from season 1 episode 7, Paradise always felt like some pulp tv, with the trappings of prestige television (effects/cgi etc), maybe that's why some people on the sub are treating it like Severance or something. Been watching it like a long B movie and enjoying it that way, so hopefully some pleasant surprises happen.

Agree. I’m enjoying it personally - I’m not treating it like the Sopranos but it’s quite a fun TV show with some amazing standout moments (‘The Day’ episode is insane and extremely tense). I’m enjoying season 2 a lot more than I expected, but it doesn’t have to be top tier prestige TV.

Completely agree. I’ve enjoyed the show from the start but most of the time it’s just schlocky fun, and once in a while crests to actual greatness but just as often dips to downright silliness.

If it’s true and they introduce time travel, I think it’s ultimately what will turn a lot of viewers off. It’s grounded in reality and they are going to introduce that?

The first season wasn’t very grounded in reality. Is the second season more so?

The first season didn’t have time travel, it was a basic who done it plot.

I mean as grounded in reality as it can be. Supervolcano erupts, end of the world. No zombies. Etc. And let’s be real - you know Musk and Bezos and other billionaires probably have elite bunkers somewhere. The show isn’t too far off from reality.

The broad strokes plot outline sure, and there’s more than a few actually cool specifics that add to the worldbuilding, but there’s so many of the little nitty-gritty writing and character details and writing choices that don’t make much sense past being a fun twist to keep an audience guessing.

The product placement was awful, but I still enjoyed getting a peak into the most evil character.

S2 has been better so far overall, seems like things will get a little ridiculous but I don’t see how somebody could take the show all that seriously to begin with. It’s just old-school nonsense TV entertainment, don’t expect Mad Men.

I’ve honestly enjoyed season two 2. I would recommend giving it a go - it’s expanding a lot on the world outside.

Shows like this so often lose the audience thinking that *plot* is the reason we're watching it. Setting and character should be the driving force, but writers seem to be obsessed with crazy plot, plot plot.

Naw...I'm into these shows for plot

The show’s been silly and ridiculous from the start. That pilot twist is an A+ hook and E7 is an all-timer, but outside those the general quality in terms of writing/pacing/characterizations has been wildly inconsistent. I agree this past episode was the weakest of the season, but so far I’ve found S2 way better on average than 1. It just does a cleaner job of melding the schmaltzy sentimentality with the sci-fi genre thrills.
