Such a slept on show (off of Listnook, at least). If you find "turbo encabulator" funny, combined with some decent music and a really good mixture of spy action and comedy, check out Patriot.

It’s basically James Bond with really… really bad logistics

It’s Burn After Reading mixed with Inside Llewyn Davis in the best way possible. It’s more Coen coded than Fargo

No. It’s about flow. The Structural Dynamics of Flow Getting something from point A to point B.

The season 2 oner with the convince store heist and music on top is one of the best scenes in tv history

Been enjoying "DTF St. Louis" and found out Patriot is by the same guy. Decided to check out the first episode yesterday and loved it.

One of the most underrated TV Show ever. Pure Masterpiece.

A masterpiece that deserved more seasons.

If you watch this show and just don't get it, congratulations, you don't have PTSD or depression. The best depiction of depression I have ever seen. John gets pummeled from every angle all day long. His expressionless reactions show how used to it he is. He's well past the Vantasner Meridian.
52
MichaelMyersEatsDogs Mar 31, 2026 +25
His depression smile is so good. And they way he can make it seem real in the super rare occasion he is happy makes it that much better
25
OneTabbyBraincell Mar 31, 2026 +15
I don't have PTSD or depression and I f****** loved this show and thought it was an incredibly portrayal of both an individual struggling with trauma, but also a macro examination of what a "civilised" country is willing to do to its "sons", literally in this case, to achieve its strategic goals. I think you just have to be a human with empathy willing to engage thoughtfully with media instead of just rotting in front of it to get it.

This was such a unexpedently good show. I still don't think it gets the credit it deserves. Edit: had to post my favorite song/scene I know that if you haven't watched the show it's not as impactful but, damn, this was great while watching the show. Sell them on the structure. You can talk about it with confidence. Keep it simple. A little something like this, John: ‘Hey. Let me walk you through the Donnelly nut spacing and crack system rim-riding rip configuration. Using a field of half-C sprats, and brass-fitted nickel slits, our bracketed caps, and splay-flexed brace columns, vent dampers to dampening hatch depths of one half meter from the damper crown to the spur of plinth. How? Well, we bolster twelve husked nuts to each girdle-jerry, while flex tandems press a task apparatus of ten vertically-composited patch-hamplers. Then, pinflam-fastened pan traps at both maiden-apexes of the jim-joist.’ A little something like that, Lakeman.

> Think back to the last time you ram-chawed a partial chim set. Standard, right? We've been ram-chawing chims since the aqueducts of Ancient Rome, hey. But what if I told you that's the basis for the empire's collapse? Hello, I'm Leslie Claret. I'd like to invite you to join countless others who have come to rely on the lessons and explorations of my book to form a deeper understanding of our shared world, with relative specificity to the field application of surface and suppressed surface delivery engineering.

one of the best shows ever made without question. steven conrad, the creator, has a few other good shows including DTF St Louis that just started but quite honestly, none of them hold a candle to this show. it's pretty good

Man, Michael Dorman always delivers. While he gets roles, I think he's one of the more underrated actors in television. Between this and Joe Pickett (FAMK is a different scenario), his shows don't get a long enough run.
12
Copy_Of_The_G Mar 31, 2026 +4
Joe Pickett is one of my favorite westerns of all time. It's the perfect antithesis of the 'Yellowstone' machismo and grandeur and does it with a pacing and cinematic eye that harkens back to the spaghetti westerns of yesteryear. Also fun watching a MC get the shit end of the stick more than he comes out a w*****, but it makes rooting for him all the more fun, and the payoff when he prevails so much more gratifying. Highly recommend for anyone who likes a good noir/western mashup.

I get a strong residual gut laugh even 2 years later from watching this masterpiece, especially that second push I nearly died laughing. The show was such a rollercoaster. I need S3 so bad

God, I loved this show. Just did a rewatch after many years and it holds up wonderfully. Wish there were more seasons.

Man. I loved this show.  Weird way to learn you still have unresolved trauma when you watch a show like this and it makes you feel panicky and nostalgic at the same time.

I am a simple man, I see Patriot season 1, I press upvote.
11
Mukarsis Mar 31, 2026 +9
The bachelor party episode with all these hurt and damaged people hanging out and having fun simply being themselves is maybe the happiest a TV show has made me feel for its characters.
9
Chataboutgames Mar 31, 2026 +2
I honestly had pre mixed feelings on that generally. I thought there was a weird tonal shift where their interactions with the Romani kid and laughingly beating up the USA cops had a really dark vibe. It really threw me for the tail end of the show.
2
Mukarsis Mar 31, 2026 +3
For sure the later part of the episode once the consequences of John's actions on the job start catching up to him things take a downturn, but I felt that was the point. In the bar where they dance and everyone let's down their guard they all get a brief reprieve and that was the point I found so endearing.

I still think about that thing that he said about when you want to go somewhere, you just need to go to the middle point and take one more step. Because after that, it's closer to just continue that it is to turn around and go back.
3
AquaStarRedHeart Mar 31, 2026 +3
Ah yes. God I love this show and no one talks about it

I've really been enjoying DTF St. Louis. Really makes me want to watch this show next.

If you haven't seen it you should check it out on prime. Its a dark musical comedy about depression.

Such a great show. I clicked through hoping for a new season- no such luck.

thetacaptain Apr 1, 2026 +2
I always describe this show as Jason Bourne if directed by Wes Anderson. It’s my favorite show and pays off attention given to it with attention to detail etc. Like at different times there is a care animal that keeps changing hands and the bearing that has in the story is significant and touching.
2
Uvtha- Apr 1, 2026 +2
Easily one of the most underrated shows of all time.
2
sergedg Apr 1, 2026 +2
Loved it. Such a great show. There's really nothing like it. The only thing bothering me, I remember, is that the locations are not set where they claim to be. As in the video above, this is obviously not Amsterdam. The guard at the end speaks German, lol.
2
thestenz Apr 1, 2026 +2
I absolutely love this show. It's so funny and so well crafted and acted. I've been enjoying DTF: St Louis too.
2
SPEW_Supporter Apr 1, 2026 +3
Absolutely. Nice to see the creator of patriot bring back some of the same vibes for DTF.

Looks like Tom from Wonderland went a bit off the rails....

braumbles Apr 1, 2026 +1
I'm actually watching this currently. On ep 3 of season 2. It's a low key show that's very dry and mostly just depressing, but I love the sprinkles of humor they throw in now and then.
1
belliegirl2 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Such a good show.
1
discounthockeycheck Apr 1, 2026 +1
This show is closer to how the CIA operates than everything else Hollywood and it's ilk have produced. A bumblefuck higher up tasking whatever assets he has to accomplish a half thought out personal goal with huge diplomatic repercussions. And yet still more tact than what we have in real life
1
AbbreviatedArc Mar 31, 2026 -2
absolutely fantastic first season, and terrible second season
-2

Chataboutgames Mar 31, 2026 +1
I did think the second season was a major step down but I enjoyed it
1
KarlHp7 Apr 1, 2026
First season was good. Second was eh. I’m not in the industry it’s set in so I could never tell if the technical words they used were made up or not because they sound made up.

Chewblacka_ Mar 31, 2026 -2
I know I am outlier here, but the show hooked me at first, but quickly it became completely unwatchable. I have noticed Listnook will fall in love with shows with beautiful cinematography, but no substance behind it.
-2
MichaelMyersEatsDogs Apr 1, 2026 +7
No substance? It’s about a massively depressed spy with PTSD and how corrupt and ineffective the intelligence community is. Not to mention the themes of fathers and sons that permeates throughout But anyone who couches their opinion in what they feel “Listnook” does or says isn’t a serious person. It’s a way for you to feel superior based on taste rooted in narcissism because you can’t fathom something you don’t personally enjoy could be good. It’s lazy and more important ignorant as shit. You are part of Listnook. You are no better than anyone else here. Having a minority opinion doesn’t change that
7
srd100 Mar 31, 2026 -30
Oh boo-hoo. It's a show (edit) about how bad an American feels about going to another country to murder someone.
-30
General_Disaray_1974 Mar 31, 2026 +9
Watch the show.
9
MichaelMyersEatsDogs Mar 31, 2026 +9
lol it’s absolutely not. It’s a show about how fucked up and ineffective the US intelligence community is.
