It’s going to be insane watching marines die pointlessly while Trump and Hegseth with straight faces describe the action as a monumental, unparalleled success
2351
DataDude00 Mar 29, 2026 +1055
The PR of this is going to be really, really bad  I don’t think Americans are prepared to see 4K footage of US marines getting blown up via FPS feed on a drone

Maybe that's what we need for people to January 6th his ass

This has been my thought too. It’s tragic, but trump is the only way we as a nation develop the absolutely necessary backbone to do what needs to be done to secure our future and eliminate maga extremism. Uhh. For maybe a couple more generations I guess.
162
Undernown Mar 29, 2026 +55
I've seen MAGA grandparents aproving that Trump might draft their grandkids for this stupid, pointless war and fight on the frontline. I sadly feel that even seeing their grandkids die to a drone in 4k might not be enough to wake MAGA up from the brainwashing.
55
under_the_c Mar 29, 2026 +1
They don't care when American kids get shot up in schools. I highly doubt they'll care when older American kids get blown up overseas.
1
Piggywonkle Mar 29, 2026 +20
They've been selling out their grandkids' future for decades now, so this would be in keeping with that.
20
Phazon2000 Mar 29, 2026 +98
Haha the f***? They're just gonna hate Iranians and Muslims 10x more. If they haven't demonstrated foresight already they're not going to magically wake up now.

Schroding3rror Mar 29, 2026 +35
Maybe after 10 years, this one thing will turn the tides /s Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results.

21
kangarool Mar 29, 2026 +26
they'll be told its AI and they'll believe it without questioning, so I think they're as ready as they'll ever be
26
Melodic_Mood8573 Mar 29, 2026 +43
But the American media won't show this, will they? So the rest of us will see the reality but the majority of Americans will not.
43
Cthulhu__ Mar 29, 2026 +20
That’s not really an issue IMO as I’m convinced most news and information is spread over social media and IM nowadays. Twitter was hugely important in the Arab Spring, Telegram and Signal are in the Ukrainian war, etc. This is why keeping communication open and secure is so important; keep resisting any law enforcement backdoors because that’s only one order away from being used by a hostile government.
20
Melodic_Mood8573 Mar 29, 2026 +9
People who are looking for the truth will find it. But the masses who are content to watch what they're served on Fox News or are kind of politically apathetic et al will not. And that is the problem.
9
StekenDeluxe Mar 29, 2026 +6
A people unmoved by Sandy Hook won’t be moved by such footage either. It’ll be the Trump/McCain thing all over again — ”I prefer soldiers who don’t get blown up.”
6
TheManicac1280 Mar 29, 2026 +150
I dont know if I'm alone in this or what. But it pisses me off how hegseth talks about it. It would be bad if it was the typical military dude in his 60s in a suit describing it with military terms or in a monetary tone. But id much much rather have that over hegseth "im such a badass" gamer speak. Like hes out there flying jets or something
150
DanCasper Mar 29, 2026 +55
Can't believe you have someone running your military that has the intelligence of Derek Zoolander. He's "not-so-supreme" leader speech was up there with - "You think that you're too cool for school, but I have a newsflash for you Walter Cronkite... you aren't."
55
velveteenelahrairah Mar 29, 2026 +21
Heyyyyyy, that's unfair, at least Zoolander wanted to create some good in the world through the Center For Kids Who Can't Read Good. And unlike Kegbreath he was a decent person despite having the IQ of a cornflake.
21
AngryAtEverything01 Mar 29, 2026 +186
It’s gonna be insane watching 1000$ fpv drones killing marines just because USA doesn’t learn a damn thing
186
Kickedbyagiraffe Mar 29, 2026 +60
That’s my thing. The previous wars already sucked. Now drones are a thing and the leadership is worse. It will mega suck.

Becuase isrealieis dont believe that an apocalypse will reign down on earth if the Jewish people hold the hill in Jerusalem that Jesus died on. But the nutters that are the american episcopal does and they truly believe that the apocalypse will happen as soon as iran and hesbolah are eliminated.
53
shouldbepracticing85 Mar 29, 2026 +24
Evangelicals, not Episcopalians. Episcopalians in the US are closer to Anglicans and Catholics - generally more liberal socially, but more prone to reasonable interpretations of the bible. Evangelicals are where you find Southern Baptist, snake handlers, speaking in tongues, and just generally tend to be mini cults of personality around a preacher. It’s understandably confusing as hell when there are 14 Presbyterian church organizations in the US - and that’s just one of the Protestant church types!

Trump doesn’t care. His cronies don’t care. All we can hope is that our military brass care about their troops and will do whatever they can to avoid mass bloodshed. There’s been enough already, but again Trump and his enablers don’t care. People need to wake up to the fact that the most powerful people in the world do not care about the rest of us and they’ll kill us all if we don’t dispose of them in one form or another
853
Harbinger2001 Mar 29, 2026 +469
If the brass cared they would have refused to start the war without congressional approval. Trump and Hegseth have purged the Pentagon of leaders who would have stood up to them.
469
jjamesr539 Mar 29, 2026 +41
They don’t have that option. Ordering strikes on a foreign country isn’t an illegal order on its own, and the commander in chief is still the top of that chain. The military’s empowered (and *required*) to reject illegal orders, but that doesn’t extend to orders they think are a bad idea, only shit like intentional civilian targeting etc. Presidential war powers might be a bad idea, but they are a thing that predates Trump and are part of the chain of command.
41
Pol_Potamus Mar 29, 2026 +18
The Constitution explicitly disqualifies Trump from the presidency. Every order he gives is by definition illegal.
18
CptHA86 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Then it's on Congress and the Supreme Court to enforce that. The military removing Trump from office unilaterally is a coup, and I don't think many here actually want a military led government.
1
BaronVonShtinkVeiner Mar 29, 2026 +100
I just keep thinking, if you are in the armed forces, how do you get on that plane/ship? How do you say, well this is absolutely fucked on every level and I'm definitely going to die or see a lot of my comrades killed, but I better just go because...🇺🇸🤷
100
Seanbox59 Mar 29, 2026 +83
No it’s more that you better go or you’re headed to Leavenworth. I know Listnook says “just ignore the illegal orders” but that doesn’t really hold up in the military. You’ll sit in a military prison while it gets hashed out. And that could take years. Not to mention being put on the ship isn’t illegal.
83
Villag3Idiot Mar 29, 2026 +165
People are going to see drone cam videos of their kids being blown apart by drones.
165
NobleRotter Mar 29, 2026 +54
This. We're seeing footage from Ukraine of soldiers begging for their lives with limbs hanging off before drones finish them. America has always been shielded from the reality of its wars and intolerant of loss. I wonder if it's ready for this
54
Rugkrabber Mar 29, 2026 +16
I certainly never will be.
16
derkrieger Mar 29, 2026 +80
Tools exist to potentially identify soldiers as well and send those videos to their families. The potential PR warfare that can be launched is horrific.
80
KittyCatfish Mar 29, 2026 +69
It happens in Ukraine/Russia already. Each side calling the parents of the dead using their sons phones and sending them pictures of their corpses...

He's running it like a business.  You know, all the businesses that he bankrupted.
238
Lawgang94 Mar 29, 2026 +37
Exactly, his business endeavors are the catalyst to my conspiracy, that I swear he has to have a puppet master of some sort somewhere, lol. Throughout his life he has continued to fail upwards, I mean just listen to the man he doesnt know what he's talking about half the time yet he became president not once but twice! He truly breaks reality....you know what maybe he is a stable genius, how else to explain it?
37
Batmantheon Mar 29, 2026 +41
I mean its literally the heritage foundation. I dont think there is a big conspiracy towards his come up. I think hes a rich boy who had the financial backing to make anything he could do fail in style. He has the cult of personality to make anything he does seem funny and care free and like he in control but thats all just the image. The image does extremely well for ratings so its been pushed hard by the media for decades now. The thing is, hes not that smart and his sensitive little ego makes him super easy to control for the most part but his spontaneity and ego also make him hard to keep from doing wild stupid things in the heat of the moment. Anyone that wants a piece can come in and flatter him and work their own agenda in to his. When people say its Russia, Israel, heritage foundation, epstein, etc, etc. It is. Its all of them. They all got their part and got him to do what they needed but they can't fully keep him in line because he will always be a moment away from going off script and doing his own stupid shit.
41

Actaully a land battle lasting several months is a win win for Trump. Win 1. Epstein disappears from the news, Win 2. Trump declares a war emergency and cancels the mid term elections.
91
BriarsandBrambles Mar 29, 2026 +56
He can’t do the second thing. I don’t mean in a “that’s illegal” way I mean he literally CANNOT do that he doesn’t have the ability to do that.
56

Things heating up at home though. I would suspect civil unrest if he instituted a draft.

Only then? Why not now?
13
ultimateknackered Mar 29, 2026 +6
I'm interested to see how he pulls off the paradox of it not being a war so he can dodge congressional approval but it also being a war so he can suspend elections.
6
JoeHatesFanFiction Mar 29, 2026 +170
I’ve been calling this for two weeks. His only options are to escalate to try and salvage this situation, or to negotiate and look incredibly weak to everyone. We all know appearances matter more to Trump than anything else. So we’re invading unless Iran agrees to what he’s demanding
170
Periador Mar 29, 2026 +86
iran got fucked over by trump multiple times. Last year he already attacked with israel and then did his "peace deal", last term he decided to drop out the nuclear agreement. The US became unreliable af. No matter what they negotiate, nothing guarantees that trump wont invade a week later
86
Cirrus-Nova Mar 29, 2026 +27
Not to mention that the US was in the middle of negotiations with Iran when they started the war.
27
XavierRussell Mar 29, 2026 +10
You and basically any sensible media, it's wild how many people have downplayed it. Someone told me 2 weeks ago that the US had enough oil reserves for this to be essentially a blip on the map 😬

136
NTJ-891 Mar 29, 2026 +131
No one, and I mean no one, is buying this. I live in the rural south and even the normal "rah rah" cultists see through this bullshit.
131
cletus_spuckle Mar 29, 2026 +97
It’s an incredibly unpopular “military operation”. I too live in the South and even staunch Trumpers are acting awfully quiet about this situation. I suppose willful ignorance is a slight improvement on willful enablement?
97
NTJ-891 Mar 29, 2026 +82
This war of choice is so clearly and obviously against the propaganda sold to the moron brigade that its crazy. My buddy from the bar, who was so vocally proud and loud about his support of this Trump dictatorship, today expressed how mad he was about his Marine son being called into deployment and I could not help but laugh about it. You voted for it, get used to it.
82
cletus_spuckle Mar 29, 2026 +64
It’s all fun and games til your kin get shipped to the front. It’s a tale as old as time, us Americans forgot about it for a bit and we’re being rudely reminded, but anyone reading this I can promise you are descendants of people who thought the same way. We do not learn from our mistakes, time is a flat circle
64
mybad4990 Mar 29, 2026 +9
It doesn't help that the regime didn't bother to try to sell the war to the American people like, at all. At least with Iraq the Bush administration there was a year of speeches and fearmongering about WMD's
9

This war has close to a 80% Disapproval rating. As you said no one is buying this shit.

I mean, militarily, Operation Iraqi Freedom was a masterstroke. Tom Franks did his job. It was everything else afterwards that was a disaster. But this war is shaping up to make Iraq, Afghanistan and even Vietnam like a child's play, right from the very beginning. Financial bankruptcy is basically guaranteed if US tries to invade Iran. I hope Americans are not suicidal.
34
buzziebee Mar 29, 2026 +7
It was and it wasn't. The UK did a huge postmortem on the Iraq war covering everything from our decision to get involved, how we executed the invasion, and what came later. It was a years long deep dive called the Iraq Inquiry which pulled in huge numbers of decision makers and people to really figure out what happened and how the decision making went wrong. It produced a detailed report called the Chilcot Report which outlined all of the findings in great detail. Off the back of that detailed report they produced a short (ish) document called "the good operation". It's a condensed version of the lessons from Chilcot and guidance for people involved in operational decisions on how to learn from those lessons and apply them. It's well worth a read because it helps explain exactly how poor a decision this Iran operation is. It's a great baseline for how we can evaluate the decision making of our leaders when they choose to engage in operations. The "Chilcot Checklist" is on page 7 if you want a quick glance of the key criteria used to decide if an operation is a good idea or not. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a81f19440f0b62305b91a48/TheGoodOperation_WEB.PDF

Their only appeal to either the public or the military is insane evangelical fear mongering, it's a little astounding how few people they've felt they needed to convince. The country was whipped up into a fervor for Iraq that lasted a long time and these guys are just skipping straight to "disillusioned quagmire" step.
39

Iran has been preparing for this for years too. They also have a fanatically loyal and religiously indoctrinated section of the civilian population that will die for them much more readily than Ukraine.
45
WTFmanO_o Mar 29, 2026 +59
To be fair, I'd expect for them to mostly try and occupy some hills around the straight and maybe khag island, not go and try to occupy Tehran, but still. They're gonna be stuck there as drone targets. And they can't just sit there like in call of duty, waiting for a timer to fill after which they'd win. They'd need to stay there. But I guess this is how trump operates. One step at a time, never think further ahead. Basically like a toddler.
59
iamtehryan Mar 29, 2026 +438
So, trump voters, how about that whole no more wars stuff? All good now because your pedo rapist idol says it's cool?

That is wild. I was a high school freshman in germany at the time and I can remember how unjustfied the Iraq war felt, even for little me. The rest of the world didn't have your propaganda, so a lot of people thought it was all bullshit, much like we are all thinking it now...

If your plan has it only taking a few weeks it's probably not a well thought out plan. I hope you're planning to have a back up plan for when things go the same way as your previous plans

stonk_fish Mar 29, 2026 +151
It’s always a half baked concept of a plan. Venezuela was the worst thing to happen, it showed Trump shit can be accomplished in a day so he expects the same every time now. Already news is he is bored and wants to win asap. He’s going to collapse global economies and get hundreds/thousands killed.

>If your plan has it only taking a few weeks, it's probably not a well thought out plan. Well, the bombing plan was "two weeks," then four. Look how great that worked out. Also, they promised it won't be a forever war, and there won't be any boots on the ground...

Yes. I'm tired of seeing people blame this on Israel or "Trump is getting bad advice". No. Stop it. This is Donald Trump's war, full stop. You have two options here - 1. Donald Trump is a lying pedo warmonger who would rather get Americans killed than admit he's ever made a mistake in his life, and should be removed from office immediately. or 2. Donald Trump is a brainless puppet and is walking us into a war because he's too weak-willed to think for himself, and he's also a lying pedo warmonger who can't admit to his mistakes, and should be removed from office immediately, Take your pick, but absolving Donald Trump of any amount of responsibility for this mess and everything that has and will come of it is unacceptable. Ultimately this falls on DJT.

It’s gonna be a bloodbath. A trained and highly motivated army against a foreign invader. It’s what the Iranians and the IRGC have been training for decades. This has the potential to be akin to the 1979–1989 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Trump and his cronies don’t know how dumb this is, and they’re the only ones who don’t know.

90
SadieLady_ Mar 29, 2026 +67
Judging by the amount of training I received in 2021 prior to deploying to the Middle East, no. They're absolutely not ready. We do have tools capable of defending against them, which Ukraine may not, but they require constant vigilance and paying attention to your surroundings. I spent a lot of time in bunkers because people didn't pay enough attention on guard duty at night in Syria. Probably 2-3 drone attacks a week, and that was against ISIS. This is a far more motivated, well-trained force that will be harassing the US troops. Lots of flag draped coffins will be coming back, I fear.

And that country is a damn fortress. It’s a country 2.5 times the size of Texas, or roughly the same size as Alaska. 50-55% of the country is mountains. So, essentially has a Texas sized landmass amount of mountains. The underground networks under the mountains must be vast and expansive. And unknown. There’s a reason no one ever attacked them.

Yeah, the IRGC sucks and it’s corrupt as shit, but it does actually function like a real government. There’s no strongman dictator, the government is decentralized and can function that way, and the country has fairly modern civil infrastructure and communications. So nobody should have been surprised when the government kept running when they took out the ayatollah.

Choice-of-SteinsGate Mar 29, 2026 +20
Donald Trump never had a plan for a drawn out conflict. This is the result of poor planning, arrogance and incompetence. It's also about Netanyahu's enthusiasm for war with his middle east neighbors and Trump being the perfect useful idiot to help him achieve his decades-long dream of decimating Iran, its proxies, and everything the Islamic Republic represents. I mean, we literally have Bibi on video admitting that he's been waiting for this moment for FORTY years, and that with enough of a push and just the right amount of flattery, he could get Donald Trump, the ideal American chump, to throw his military support behind Israel in its long awaited war against its greatest enemy. He was right. Trump has been escalating tensions and hostilities with Iran ever since he stepped foot into office. Crippling sanctions, assassinations, excessive airstrikes, his abandonment of the JCPOA—a campaign of "maximum pressure." And yeah, this war is also about Trump's ego, or his desire to project his own strength through the unbridled use of the military. You know, good ol fashion US imperialism... After Venezuela, Trump got it in his head that he could decapitate any government that opposes him. But it's not really going as planned—because there was no plan. And besides, in Venezuela, Trump removed Maduro from power but kept the oppressive government intact in return for their cooperation. So much for liberating the people... That said, other than wholesale destruction, what the f*** have we actually accomplished in Iran? The regime hasn't "changed," the Iranian people have not been "liberated," Iran was never building a nuclear weapon, nor did they pose an "imminent threat" to the United States. Meaning of course that this war was conducted under false pretenses and Trump's cabinet has been trying hopelessly (and failing) to cover up that fact, which is why their messaging has been so erratic and inconsistent. A war that ignored lessons from history about what happens when the US tries "regime change" in the middle east. An illegal war that was launched without consulting with our allies or Congress. A war that was always one of choice, not of necessity. And now Trump is desperately searching for an offramp. Like when he told the Iranian people to "rise up" and "overtake" their government because he wanted to wipe his hands clean of the bloody aftermath of a war he helped start with no long-term, coherent strategy for the future. However, Trump can't just up and leave because, for one, it would signal defeat and/or reflect very poorly on him, but more important than that, because he helped trigger a global energy crisis after dismissing warnings about very obvious Iranian countermeasures in the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf. And while Trump is pushing back deadlines and claiming that the war is "winding down," or that "productive conversations" are happening, he is simultaneously sending thousands of *more* troops to the region and demanding *more* money from the government to fuel operation "epic failure." At the same time, Israel is bombing Iran's Capital and Iran is firing back at neighboring countries. The war is only expanding and conflict is being reignited between Israel and Hezbollah. Oh, and the Houthis just joined the fight. So much for this war "winding down." Worse yet, American troops are dead and dying and we continue to bomb Iran with no regard for the civilians we're supposed to be "liberating." MILLIONS of people have been displaced across the Middle East. Thousands of innocent noncombatants have been killed in this war so far—some of them CHILDREN at the hands of our own military and its incompetent commander in chief. Together, the US and Israel are shelling schools, hospitals, heritage sites, non-military and civilian infrastructure, and even residential areas. Some Iranians doubt whether regime change is realistic and whether this war is even worth it... As far as "regime change" goes, the already dying Ayatollah was replaced by his more hardline son who we've managed to radicalize all the same after killing his entire family, and who has deep connections and sway with the IRGC. Additionally, one fifth of the population still supports the Islamic Republic and grieves the deaths of prominent Iranian leaders. When it comes to the economic side of things, this war has caused a worldwide oil crisis, which has both short and long term repercussions for the American economy, and an economy that was already sliding before the war even began. A ground invasion is all but inevitable at this point because we presently have nothing to really show for our efforts. Without "boots on the ground" there's no way to facilitate structural change in Iran, no other way to seize control of the Strait of Hormuz, no chance of poaching whatever uranium Iran has left lying around, and no possibility at all of taking Kharg Island and thus crippling Iran's oil production indefinitely. For that matter, if the US doesn't launch a ground invasion, it can't make up for its incompetency, its many oversights and a lack of any meaningful results (sunk cost fallacy). At this point, ordering troops to invade Iran is the only way for the US to at least appear like it's committing to "objectives" that don't just involve bombing the f*** out of the country.

We've seen this before "weeks" will become months and months possibly years. I dont know what the administration's objectives are as they seem to shift by the week but regime change from a govt willing to murder its on citizens will not come quick, easy, or c****. They're in survival mode with nothing to lose as they're essentially a pariah in the global order, which is why incentivizing probably would've been a better approach. One last thing Trump sure does seem to relish unforced error. I dont think I have ever seen someone (a politician atleast) shoot themselves in the foot as much as this guy, with all the instances of controversy hes caused by saying the wrong things, the unnecessary political stunts, and questionable policy decisions

There is no objective. Trump thought he could do Iran like Venezuela. When Iran didn't immediately capitulate, he had no idea what came next. Now he's just trying to not look like a loser, so he'll send American kids off to die on foreign soil.
30
UncomfyPerspective Mar 29, 2026 +10
Absolutely this. Venezuela went to his head, and he's incapable of ever admitting he's wrong or taking responsibility for anything, so he'll feed Americans' children to the meat grinder to try to find something he can call a 'win'.

Do you think Trump’s team and the oligarchs running America even noticed the no kings day protest? I think they probably just partied down with some meth, some underage girls, and largely ignored it. It’s not like Americans actually did anything to stop them.
32
Sad-Society-57 Mar 29, 2026 +30
Yeah, they noticed. The White House said the No Kings protest were "Trump derangement syndrome therapy sessions" and that they don't pay any attention to them. The messaging from our executive branch is reduced to nothing but witty 4-chan trollisms. They don't even try to take anything seriously and it's all a big joke to them.
30
fsociety091786 Mar 29, 2026 +6
I think the protests are good to motivate the sane part of the country to not give up and keep hope alive, and hopefully they make Trump seethe when he sees how many people hate him. But I don’t think it will affect their behavior, they’re gonna get their back blown out in November and they haven’t seemed to care about course correcting on any issues at all.
