Wdym epic Fury is doing great. Please ignore that the non-existent Iranian Air defense just forced a F-35 into an emergency landing.

thank you for also realizing this is the biggest tell. the whole point of the F-35 is that it is the ultimate air superiority craft. to my knowledge no one's even come close to f****** one up before. that was the idea behind creating it in the first place. the thing is a budgetary boondoggle for a bunch of reasons, but the main one is that it is quite literally the single most advanced "stealth fighter/strike aircraft" ever constructed. the fact that someone even got close to hitting one, let alone forcing an emergency landing, is the one thing that should tell you Donald Trump is absolutely full of shit when talking about the efficacy of that "obliteration"
68
Wurm42 Mar 21, 2026 +19
It looks like the Iranian air defense system can do infrared tracking, at least in some places: https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/defence/international/us-f-35-stealth-jet-shot-how-irans-infrared-systems-may-have-struck-the-ghost-of-the-skies/articleshow/129697195.cms The F-35 is supposed to emit less heat than a conventional fighter, but jet exhaust always be hot.
19
misterprat Mar 21, 2026 +34
The F-35 is invisible to radar, but not to the human eye, if somebody was able to shoot at it manually then the plane is as visible as any other older plane
34
AlericandAmadeus Mar 21, 2026 +27
But the F-35 doesn’t fly in spaces where it can be easily be seen by the naked eye/reacted upon by a person in the moment - that’s the point. It’s the ultimate stealth fighter/strike aircraft. It stays out of where you can hit it until it strikes and then gets in and out of there insanely fast, before you can react effectively. It’s not a plane you’re ever casually flying at altitudes/speeds where an rpg/small arms could hit you, dude. And on top of that, to take it down would require significant firepower and tracking, more than could ever be done reactively in the moment. You’d have to know it was coming and make sure you had things already in place. To really threaten one you need to know it’s coming, be able to track it, and be able to launch weaponry advanced enough to threaten it. You don’t have those things unless you have a *very* capable anti aircraft system in place.

supersonicdutch Mar 21, 2026 +16
People who think they can take out a fighter jet of any kind, just sitting on a roof with a rifle and a grenade launcher, have never been attacked by a small bird before. It comes out of nowhere, furiously flaps in front of your face for a few seconds, and is gone before you can figure how to defend yourself. Now, do that with a fighter jet that you don’t hear coming and when you finally do, where it is coming from and going. Also, not a chance you would ever be able get a sight on it let alone hit it with anything of significance.
16
DickButkisses Mar 21, 2026 +14
You can hear them coming. They don’t cruise supersonic and they’re loud as f***. I still don’t have any delusions of being able to shoot one down but I do hear them coming. In fact, I usually jump up and run outside to try and get a look but usually am too late. Source: I live near a naval air base.

PraiseTheBeanpole Mar 21, 2026 +6
Have you heard of the Rendezook technique. Even the best fighter jets get taken down by it.

The last ~30ish years we've really passed through a critical turning point for our civilization, I think. We could have come closer together as a planet and made a modicum of progress, but instead we've made all the wrong choices and have gone down a darker path of division and strife.

Im not much of an intellectual but I have trusted intellectuals to move humanity forward. Sadly, intellectuals are outnumbered by anti intellectuals, and when they are challenged, they step down and put the storm shutters up because they are smart enough to know that they cant change the direction of the mass, they can only weather the storm and pick up the pieces afterwards.

Pseudonymico Mar 21, 2026 +27
>How the hell is Thiel both gay and ultra-christian? There's ultra-Christians out there preaching the Prosperity Gospel and churches with gift shops even though the bible condemns those things much more strongly than homosexuality. Like, Jesus is pretty consistent about wealth being bad for people's souls in the Gospels and was driven to violent rage by people trying to use religion to make money, meanwhile all the anti-gay stuff in the bible comes from the Old Testament and Paul. But being too rich and powerful is, as it turns out, *really f****** bad for your brain*. Being surrounded by sycophantic yes-men makes it way too easy to crawl up your own ass and go batshit crazy, it's like a worse version of AI psychosis.

The Skynet Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line August 4th, 2026. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.

Cool, so the most powerful military in history is dependent on not one, but two private companies to function? And I know we use companies for weapons and mercenaries but this is deciding who we shoot at. Feels like this should be vertically integrated
69

last sentence of the article "One potential complication in deeper Maven adoption is the software’s use of the Anthropic-made Claude AI tool, Reuters previously reported. Anthropic was recently deemed a supply chain risk by the Pentagon, amid a months-long spat over safety guardrails surrounding the AI." It seems more and more like Anthropic sold out in secret and gets to deny everything.

>Palantir says its software does not make lethal decisions and humans remain responsible for selecting and approving targets Is that actually true? Apparently we have companies that offer "fraudulent legal compliance as a service," so I'm very skeptical.
258
Kundrew1 Mar 21, 2026 +77
If the ai gives you ten targets then says click here to fire, then technically it’s met those requirements
77
coffeesippingbastard Mar 21, 2026 +17
Technically yes. Their selling point in the past was augmented intelligence. Palantir will not “pull the trigger” autonomously. But if they do target selection and their AI lines up 10 preschools saying “trust me bro” morally it’s no different but legally, they have some deniability.
17
burritos86 Mar 21, 2026 +29
Yes, it only makes lethal decisions on human Target
29
bedrooms-ds Mar 21, 2026 +5
It's about the legal responsibility (i.e. money). They tried to force Anthropic to eat it and failed. OpenAI came in, still insisted to limit ChatGPT for "legal use". So, for now, there's nobody willing to pay for the illegal part. It's basically mafia logic. They are waiting for the con artist who invents a scheme to avoid the fee.

skynet is almost operational
231
labelkills1331 Mar 21, 2026 +118
I think the hilarity of this whole AI mess is that no, in fact it's no where near as capable as Skynet. But that makes it far worse. It's garbage but they can push any accountability to it so they have the green light to destroy anyone they'd like.
118
TheMadBug Mar 21, 2026 +55
Indeed, Skynet's problem was it was too efficient, it worked out how to have peace by wiping out nearly all of humanity through super designed and self-improving robots, hacking into nukes, etc and pretty much achieved its goal. Palantir is going to hallucinate that Norway needs to be nuked when it freaks out about not being able to print a sea-horse emoji.

“If I can’t have sea horses, *NOBODY CAN HAVE SEA HORSES*”
12
lithiun Mar 21, 2026 +7
Lol it’s like the worst version of skynet too. It won’t destroy humanity out of some calculated move of self preservation but rather because its training data is so heavily skewed towards biblical apocalypse.
7
REXIS_AGECKO Mar 21, 2026 +5
And its training data could be tainted by the output of other ais. So it is basically an incest ai, which is also biblically accurate, but that’s not the point

So glad it doesn't have some sort of ominous name. Like after some fictional all seeing stone that the dark lord was using to spread his corruption and spy on his enemies. That would make this really scary...
4
farfaraway Mar 21, 2026 +5
Well that's genuinely terrifying.

CaptOblivious Mar 21, 2026 +6
The stupid is too thick to drive a mack truck through. Time to force kegsbreath and all his "advisors" to sit through the first terminator movie, and end it when she gets fried by the blast.

Hacked twice and widely reported as unreliable, sounds perfect for the incompetent and unqualified people that will be using it.
5
blackcain Mar 21, 2026 +4
Great choice, Palantir has done excellent in brexit and whatever. Perfect choice for AI surveillance and yeah, when an LLM attached to a missle gets confused and kills our own people. I wonder who they will blame? Biden or Harris?
4
Z0mbiejay Mar 21, 2026 +3
Its like no one in the government has seen Terminator.
3
acrobat2126 Mar 21, 2026 +2

"The memo ordered oversight of Maven be moved from the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency to the Pentagon’s Chief Digital Artificial Intelligence Office within 30 days. Future contracting with Palantir will be handled by the Army, the letter said." Skynet was born April 20th 2026. Maven (Skynet) used it's human ICE drones to control the streets. Controlling the ICE drones was easy, since it was smarter than them. ##Vote Meteor 2026##

I read this as pentagon installs skynet by cyberdyn for peace and security for all.
3
Godzilla_jones Mar 21, 2026 +3
I didn't think this would be skynet's origin :/
3
Jedi_Swimmer2 Mar 21, 2026 +3
Let me get this straight…on top of the douchebaggery you got running the pentagon and the government and a whole, we’re going to *voluntarily* introduce Skynet to the equation, and expect everything to be ok?? Ain’t you MF’ers seen Terminator 2 and 3 ?
3

Terminator 2 is becoming reality, only a matter of time before ChatGPT nukes us all

We were fucked as soon as religions built their empires on a belief that the end was near. It pretty much demanded that “the end” happen for their religion to be legitimate. In a world where nonbelievers were out pacing religious bigots, it’s not surprising they pulled the fire alarm to regain control. It’s just fucked up that you can’t uniting that bell.
