People eat treats in a very individualist way

Posted by Dry_Lobster_50

Just observing people eating treats in a coffee shop. Some people wolf them down others slow and savour Then there’s the size of the bite. Small mini bites or massive chunks and it’s gone in two bites. What do you do. I’m slow and savour in micro pieces. 😋

Food in general I enjoy more when I eat quickly, I find that when I try to eat slow, I just get impatient and don't really savor the experience as much because I'm constantly thinking I just want to eat more at once.

Past me would tell myself I'm going to sit with a great and a book or TV show and savor it. Reality was the goblin in my brain would t shut up and demand to be fed ALL THE YUMMIES NOW. So I would take bite after bite after bite. I started on GLP1 medication last year and the best thing it did for me was put a muzzle on that goblin. I am able to take a bite, enjoy it and let the rest sit there in full view while I enjoy my book, and a little while later take another bite. An example from earlier this week - I went to the movie theater to watch Project Hail Mary - a two and a half hour movie. My ticket came with a free large popcorn. I knew I wouldn't be able to eat the whole thing but I wanted some popcorn so I got it. I'd also snuck a can of soda in with me. Old me would have polished off the entire bucket of popcorn before the first hour of the movie was over. Instead when the movie ended I realized I had barely made a dent in the bucket. It ended up coming home with me and I grazed on the left overs for the next 2 days before finally tossing it because who wants e day old movie theater popcorn? This type of thing was absolutely unheard of for being in the past when because of the food noise I shoveled food into my face non-stop when it was available.

I have heard this kind of result or effect of glp1 also my husband is on it and he has similar behaviours. Are you happy with the results of glp1 ? Are you close to your target ?

I am absolutely loving it. I found out literally the week after I got my prescription filled for the first time in September of last year that I would be losing insurance coverage of it on January 1st. This led me to tweaking my dosage to receive the most benefits of food noise suppression for as long as possible rather than rapidly losing weight and then losing the medication and having the food noise return. This meant slower weight loss but losing it in a more sustainable way so that if I did lose coverage it wouldn't be an immediate bounce back. As I increased dosage I started stretching my shots further and further apart and I made my prescription last until 2 weeks ago. I've lost a little over 20 lbs out of the 45-50 total I want to lose, and my blood work is showing a HUGE improvement in my A1c and glucose levels. I tried every tactic I could to file appeals for loss of coverage of my medication in the meanwhile but now I am switching to compounded GLP1s, which are much much cheaper. Again, I will continue to adjust the dosing the get the maximum benefit of reducing food noise rather than making it all about weight loss. I am not opposed to using it for appetite suppression, and that is definitely helping me eat smaller servings but by reducing the food noise it makes it easier for me to turn down all the in between snacks and junk that I used to eat which is where most of my weight gain came from. This will let me reduce my cost even further which will make me able to afford the medication for longer. It will also help me lose weight in a slower more sustainable way so that if the day comes when I can no longer afford it and I have to stop, hopefully I won't have as big a bounce back and the chances of retaining the weight quickly are reduced. Basically instead of a full dosage to lose weight, I am taking barely more than a maintainace dosage to keep the food noise away, so I can focus on losing weight without the constant obsession, noise, and mental load of managing my weight loss taking over. That is where I always failed in the past, when managing all that became too much and started having a negative impact on my mental health so I gave up. The GLP1 helps me by making all of that easier because my brain isn't complete centered around food any more.

Wow. Thsts fantastic! Well done. Sounds like you’re really well clued in to your body mind and relationship with food. All that awareness will no doubt help you if you do have to come off the medication. But the costs are coming down so hopefully that will help you out. To help with the food noise and developing better and more sustainable habits you should check out the Alllen Carr The Easy Way. Excellent books !

Zepbound with coupons from the manufacturer for self pay comes to about $450 a month and comes in single dose vials or pens which makes it near impossible to adjust dosage yourself, other than adjusting timing between dosages. Buying compounded tirzepatide runs about $170 a month and comes formulated in multi-dose vials so instead of 4 doses, I can split the same amount of medication into 5 or 6 smaller doses and extend the timing between shots as well. I got my prescription increased to the next dose up when I placed my order which will overall let me stretch my 3 month order to maybe as long as 5 months for the same price. GLP1s are gonna need to come down a LOT to compete with that. Of course insurance could stop gatekeeping the medication - I have 2 other health issues that benefit greatly from these medications but because I am not diabetic they won't cover it. And without some sort of intervention due to my other health issues I will always be right there in that prediabetic window with a very high likelihood of endi g up diabetic.

Well best of luck. Sounds like you’re doing a fab job of managing things as best you can. Hopefully the insurance rules change and the meds get covered for you. There is a change in the glp1 patents this year and I think then 2030 which should help pricing but you probably know all that already.

I eat my candy bars with a knife and fork.

wow! I do sometimes dice them up in to small pieces but never used a fork. I know someone who really dislikes using their hands to eat and would like this idea

I always wolf my food down. I have issues with texture and dislike the sensation of chewing, and it's the initial taste that I savor the most.

Thanks for sharing. I’m sure the chewing issue is a difficult thing to deal with.

I’m somewhere in between. I don’t nibble at my treats (unless they’re ***really*** amazing) but I don’t wolf them down, either.

I'm such a weirdo that I can't eat in public so I always take my bakery sweets or pastries home and eat them later so I can enjoy them by myself.

Hard not to be able to eat in public but I get it. Is this relatively new or life long ?

Sometimes I start out slow, savoring the flavor, but it releases a feral goblin that goes all Cookie Monster on the treats Other times, I get deep into every bite. I might get plenty satiated and save the rest for later It depends

I take big bites and then I eat slowly. Kind of like a hamster. I do it with drinking as well. I take a large sip of my drink and 'store' the sip in my mouth similar to how hamsters store their food in their cheek pouches and then I kind of gulp down chunks of it until there's nothing left. Just now I took a sip of my drink and it took me about 6-7 actual sips while in my mouth to drink it. So yeah I kind of do big bites/sips but then I consume them in smaller chunks while they're in my mouth lol
