did a photoshoot for 'Happy Corporate Worker' and found myself on a billboard for a divorce lawyer three years later. Apparently, my smile says 'I just got half the house

That’s the ultimate 'success story' rebrand. From corporate grind to 'I got the house and the dog.' Your smile was probably so convincing that people actually felt better about their divorces just looking at you.

I’ve never been in one, but a friend told me his stock photo of “happy office worker” ended up being used on a sketchy crypto scam site. Must be wild seeing your face selling something you’ve never even heard of.

The 'Happy Office Worker' to 'Crypto Scam Icon' pipeline is real. It’s wild to think your face is out there somewhere being used to convince people to buy 'MoonCoin' while you’re just trying to get through a Monday morning in the real world.

a picture of myself with my sister (faces cropped out) was stolen from facebook and uploaded on Instagram, titled 'Shopping with my boyfriend', felt so cringe --- god

That is beyond awkward. The internet really has no boundaries. One day you're having a nice day with your sister, and the next day a stranger has officially 'adopted' you into their fake relationship for Instagram clout. That’s a whole new level of creepy.

Lmao this is my worst fear with those “be a model for a day” casting calls. One minute you’re holding a fake coffee cup for $50, three years later you’re the face of “Happy Clients of WolfCoin ProMax 3000” and people from high school are DMing you like “yo you good?” 💀

I heard a story about a dude that did one such photo shooting and later saw his pics were used for a DV campaign... with him as the perpetrator.

My dad took a photo of me when I was like... 4 on a bench in a park and put it on a stock photo site. No clue why or what prompted it as he never did it for my sister or ever again. Never got bought to be used on anything as far as I'm aware.

When I was in college, I did (what I thought were) test shots/b roll for a film student. I was walking around campus while carrying a stack of books. This was at a very large, well-known university.
Ten years later, I am back at said university for a job (I did not live in that area after graduating, but moved back for the job). One of my duties was reviewing old instructional videos for new and prospective students.
Second video I watched opened with b roll of me walking up a hill from a decade earlier. It took a second for me to recognize myself, but it was absolutely me.
The videos I was reviewing were professionally made, and expensive to produce. I know this because I was involved in production budgets. Yet somehow, here was b roll of baby-faced me that I knew for a fact was made by an undergrad film student. Weird.

Not exactly the same, but I was in a tv commercial for a local car dealership where I was talking and then they did some weird effects where I transformed into the car. 😂 Like kind of melted. Anyways it ran NIGHTLY on all of the local stations in my hometown and over a couple hours away. I got messages from friends, colleges folks I hadn’t talked to in a while, and people at church 😂

I have done "body parts" modelling and have seen my feet on countless ads for flip flops, toe-nail remedies, relaxing in travel ads, in airline ads and in bandage ads. The weirdest place I've seen them recently is on feet p*** sites. Mom, I'm not doing p***!

Not quite the same, but, as a child way back when, a local TV station had a children's program. Groups of kids could go and be in the audience. We went with girl scouts.
My sister had a big smile and ended up being in all their promo shots and in the opening introduction of the show.
The show ended in the 90s. Recently the TV station had a big anniversary, like their 50th year on the air and they had a promo ad for themselves over the years. There was my sister again.

Not a stock image or video, but someone took some of my photos off of Instagram and put them on pinterest and added it to their collections. One of them was called "pool babes" 🙄 made my account private soon after.

Not a model, but when I was in my medical program my director hired a photographer to shoot us students so she could update the program page on the university website.
That was fine, but I wasn't prepared to see my image then used for basically any and all science related advertisements for the ENTIRE UNIVERSITY a couple years later. My face was shown on website banners, actual physical banners at tables, brochures, you name it. Worst part was seeing they photoshopped my face to be skinnier. Lmao.

Years ago the same thing was discussed on FB one of stock photography groups. The answers l remember include a photo of man from a Muslim country ended up in an advertisement for gay dating site in another country but obviously internet carries over the borders. A photo of a teenager was used in some kinda comic but actually abusive story involving masturbation, published nationwide. A photo of an older lady was used for dementia care ad.
