Clean since Aug 2018 after a 10 year journey. Survived multiple ODs, lost everything and everyone except my job.
Now my life is better than it has ever been, divorced and happy, debt free, job security, 50% time with my daughter. I guess I didn’t f*** my life up completely and I am very glad about that.

Was a millionaire before the age of 30
Lost everything (business, house, cars, all assets)
Owed over 100k in credit card debt, and 50k in IRS taxes (owed 7k to CA as well)
Fell into a deep depression & coped with substances.
Fell into a victim mentality for years.
Today, I make 20k-40k/mo, credit card debt almost down to 0, only owe about 5k to the IRS (CA is paid off)
It aint how you fall, its how you bounce back.

October 2025: Lost my ex girlfriend due to alcoholism, nearly lost my job, lost the trust of my family. Kicked out of my band. Diagnosed with liver disease and almost died in my sleep due to an alcohol withdrawal related seizure.
April 2026: active member of AA, back in touch with my ex. Got a promotion at work. Better relationships with my family. Been told my liver is almost in the same shape as someone who never touched a drink. Got back into the band and now playing gigs and recording a demo in April. Getting a new lodger in my flat. Rebuilding my finances.
Maybe my life wasn’t necessarily ‘royally’ fucked up before but 6 months ago I was on the brink of disaster and getting sober meant I turned in around in under 6 months.
Do the next right thing and things can move into place!

Been flying for 6 years now and gotta say the perspective from 35k feet puts a lot of shit in perspective 🛩️ Most "royal fuckups" look pretty manageable when you zoom out enough, plus having a structured routine helps me stay grounded even when everything else goes sideways 💀

I was in rehab for opiates at 15 and 17. Went to jail at 17 and 20. Got my shit together, went to college, grinded a sick tech job for 8 years, retired at 32, now I'm an alcoholic gambling addict (just p**** though, not the degen stuff)

Difficult to say since I'm in the middle of it, but a word of advice, do one of the "big three" at a time, move house, change job/location, divorce.
I'm doing all of it at the same time, any one of them is exhausting in more than one way, all three together is monumentally hard on you mentally and believe it or not, physically.
Wake up, get through the day, go to sleep, try not to run the painful parts on a loop in my head, rinse repeat until it stops hurting, if it stops? I don't know if it will - I hope so, I'm just tired now.
