People will say “We’re not racist, we just want it to be accurate to the book, it’s not about race” but then under any video about the new Harry Potter is just the most racist shit ever.

I’m just shocked by all the people going, “Now that Hermione is non-white it’s going to look really bad when Draco Malfoy calls her mudblood. What were they thinking?” It was always supposed to be bad! Malfoy is racist that’s the point.

Yea but tbf they also have a point. Major difference when people are racist upon some made up stuff, and where you actually can relate it to a real world directly. A lot of folks are missing it unless you lay it out to them.

Are the people that are saying it's not about race the exact same people that are saying racist shit? Or are some people saying they disagree with the casting choices because they change aspects of the book and other, different people, are saying racist shit for attention on the Internet?

Sounds like the Disney form of defence - "one person said hateful shit therefore all criticism must hateful"

“I hate that this secondary character is played by a black guy…” *takes off glasses, cleans them with bottom of shirt “Because I’m an intellectual”

Shockingly, it turns out that racists are not intellectually honest regarding their biases.

respect to the actors that are dealing with this c***, but i wrote her and the franchise off when she started spouting her transphobic garbage

The fact is, I don't care about the color of their skin, we are all people, why can't we just enjoy the magic? I might be down voted for this, but im a republican,  and I don't care if someones black, white, Latino,  Asian,  native American,  who cares? We are all people anf shouldn't hate each other for STUPID things like this. So what is Hermione has a darker skintone? So what if snape is black? As long as its still the story, who cares what race they were cast as?

I find it funny that the themes surrounding Snape and mudbloods is unfounded hatred and prejudice, yet apparently a lot of people missed that. These themes were intentionally an alegory to things like racism. This is apparently lost on people. Snape, in the books, gets hung from a tree. People think that's against the ideology of the books since it'll be associated with racism, it's not. Harry's dad was a piece of shit.

Except that it also now makes *everyone* who hates Snape because something feels off about him look like a racist well before we learn that shit late in the books. How this is flying so far over people's heads is *baffling*

Mate, that’s a lot of internet comment sections when there’s black people involved. Welcome to the party

I'm of a slightly mixed opinion. Harry Potter, as an example, is a fictional story. It just simply doesn't matter. If Frodo is a woman or whatever. It's an adaptation of a fictional story. Where I don't like is if the tv show/movie is depicting historical events. Ghandi was not hispanic, Anne Boleyn was not black, and so on. If the show/movie is depicting ancient historical events, in many cases, we have no idea what ethnicity the person was.

Even if the casting stayed true to the original people would still find something to b**** about. I was more of a skulduggery pleasant kid which was cooler and If it got two adaptations the last thing I would be doing online is bitching about it and bullying little kids

It's funny because J.K. Rowling is just trying to pay lip service to the inclusivity crowd to offset her trans controversy, but all the people who care are done with her anyway.

I actually feel crazy sometimes. Like everywhere is full of racism over Snape being black and people seem to be making it such a big deal and i just dont get it. Like yes i was disappointed in the casting but they got pretty much every other casting perfect for me so maybe they saw something in him that made him the perfect person for snape. The outrage just seems like an excuse to be racist. Trust the process and judge it when you can actually watch him in the role. And even if he is bad, one bad casting wouldnt ruin the show for me. Theres so much more to love about the show and story than snape.

The thing that amuses me is that I'm constantly seeing the 'pushback' against criticisms that I can never seem to find.
