It's not his age, it's his lack of intellectual curiosity. Every take he has is not only wrong (and usually offensive) but based on, at best, cursory knowledge. It's an aspect of Dunning-Kruger; Pete thinks his superior intellect allows him to know and understand things without really studying them. Case in point, the man believes himself capable of running DoD based on his experiences as a platoon commander and his mismanagement of two small non-profits.
