Why is the US government holding sermons at government buildings?
861
Verdick 3 days ago +347
And why is he leading them?
347
GildedDreams25 3 days ago +192
because our military is being led by an angry drunk preacher who wants to kill millions in the name of “his god”
192
unicornmeat85 3 days ago +16
Follow up question: Why is our military allowing him to?
16

Because they’re also, by and large, Christian nationalists.
10

because unfortunately a majority of them either agree, or are uninformed, or too afraid to stand up

No they aren't, letting superstitious fools run things is how things have gotten to this point.
2
GildedDreams25 3 days ago +7
Make no mistake, i do not advocate for religion in government, honestly i think it should disqualify you from holding basically any office of power, im just saying that just because you are religious it doesnt inherently make you a bad person, thats all

Well ya know that thing about separation of church and state? Turns out when you just say “f*** that”, you get a legion of raging zealots to support you in the war against the “woke” virus.

And why incorrectly too? You wouldn’t want to twist God’s words unless you have, **God forbid**, a political agenda 🫣
3

But you see, if the bible verse was fake then it's technically not really a religious sermon. Homeboy's Pete's out here playing 3D chess!

They did this a lot during 2025. There was weekly services which Trump was rumored to never attended. GOP officials are on camera in prayer circles calling Trump a god and shit like that. Lots of coocoo crazy people in the US government right now.

The Division on Church, State & War
5
brenticles42 3 days ago +11
These people hold the belief that the division is a one way door where church can influence/affect the state, but the state cannot/should not affect the church. Except when it can in cases like Islam, atheists or any of the “incorrect” religions. So basically more Calvinball legal beliefs that are ultimately meaningless.

It's hard when a third of the population supports the current circus and another third don't care. My parents and extended family support this administration, and I live outside a blue area of Upstate New York. I can't imagine how it is in most red states.
21
Certain-Criticism-51 3 days ago +9
I'm in a red state with a lousy government, but most of the people I know hate everything that's happening. We have more Dems running for more offices than usual so I am hopeful, but there are still a lot of levers the current admin (state and fed) can pull to destroy the elections.
9
senator_corleone3 2 days ago +5
Yea the 1/3 in support may be an overstatement at this point. Thankfully states run their own elections.
5
Additional_Piece4165 3 days ago +17
That won't fix the fact that rightwingers will always vote against their interests and blame liberals for what happens
17
Barbosse007 3 days ago +6
That's my point. It's not about who's to blame. Both major parties have been sabotaging the system for decades on varying degrees and various ways. Rich people and companies own the government, all levels and parties. Voting won't fix this mess. I'm afraid you guys need a revolution. Find what unites everyone and keep hitting that nail. Gas and grocery prices should be enough right there to have something going.

It is good to see someone stand up to Trump in this manner. Hopefully it motivates more to follow.   Trump gets away with being a bully because no one wants to put a target on their back by standing up to him, but when the tide turns against him Trump will cower and fall apart.

These past few months of religious rhetoric, especially Hegseth’s, Trump’s Easter and AI stunts, and now a war with the Pope are mixing to be a very troubling combination of events.
13
Day_Old_Paper 3 days ago +5
Governments that have been overthrown by religious extremists are always troubling. The particular religion doesn’t matter. It’s why our First Amendment specifically forbade it here.
5
Zulmoka531 3 days ago +5
And these fucks are trying to overturn that, for their brand of “christianity” only.
5
Day_Old_Paper 3 days ago +4
The thing that always gets me is; If we’re to be a Christian nation, which denomination? There are over 200 established denominations in the US and tens of thousands globally, all because groups can’t even agree amongst themselves as to what the scriptures even mean. So which denomination gets to set the laws? Every Christian denomination in this country needs to realize that allowing this will ensure that 199 out of 200 could very well be very upset by the answer. The Catholics make up the largest single denomination, and they’re already finding out.
4
Zulmoka531 3 days ago +4
They don’t know because they don’t even understand their own faith. As we’ve seen with Hegseth, as we’ve seen with several GOP-MAGA politicians this week, as we’ve seen with Johnson, Homan and Trump, it’s whatever they feel that can use to control their “flock”.
