Flying squirrels are amazing. They had an area at the Singapore night safari zoo where you walked through an enclosure with them. My assumption was this flying ability was to traverse when needed or escape enemies. But these squirrels were just zooming all around. They knew flying was awesome and were happy to just do it for fun.

They’re some of the most beautiful animals on the planet. Gorgeous colors and incredible gliding ability. Harmless to humans, deadly to bats and amphibians

They’re harmless and only live in dense rainforests in Southeast Asia. They don’t even glide close to the ground so even if you are in their habitat they’re not gonna be anywhere near you

At least "pit" refers to the heat sensing organs they have which are called pits, heat pits, or pit organs. They can sense infrared thermal radiation using these pits.

Flying snakes are well known. They basically turn themselves into a frisbee and launch off of trees to get from place to place. Really gorgeous animals too.
