Now there's a man who will one day direct the hit streaming series The Book of Boba Fett

They just needed a name and Rodriguez a check. Disney thinks you make good movies by cramming a bunch of stuff people recognize into it 😂

A lot of the worst idea in BoBF came from Rodriguez directly (the mods...)

I honestly think I’d rather watch Rise of Skywalker than Book of Boba Fett. It’s just so damn terrible
1
kazmosisMar 29, 2026
+11
Now that's taking it too far. At least some of the Tusken Raiders stuff was good. I can't think of any part of RoS that is worth watching again.
11
Stingray88Mar 29, 2026
+7
Yeah, but Rise of Skywalker is only 2 hours and 22 minutes. My misery would be over a lot sooner and I could move on to something else that isn’t a total waste of my time.
The Tusken’s were alright. The rest was utter trash. And they ruined the trajectory of Mando, a completely different show.

I don’t understand Star Wars fandom at all. Is it mostly a hate-watching hobby?
1
Stingray88Mar 29, 2026
+1
Not for me. I don’t rewatch the bad movies and shows. But there are several movies and shows that are quite great.
And then there’s Andor, which is the best Star Wars media we’ve received to date.
1
DeineCableMar 29, 2026
+1
I wasn’t sure if I would get a reasonable response to this, so thank you for giving me one.
Maybe I’ll check out Andor. I’ve ignored everything after The Last Jedi.
1
DrexlSpivey420Mar 29, 2026
+1
Andor was so good it's legitimately difficult to pivot to anything else star wars related afterwards. Everything else is like a kids show compared to it
1
MeridianKnightMar 29, 2026
+2
I mean, it leads right into Rogue One.
2
DrexlSpivey420Mar 29, 2026
+1
Again, nowhere near the quality of Andor
1
Stingray88Mar 29, 2026
+1
It’s really worth your time. Just keep in mind it’s not like your usual Star Wars affair. There’s no lightsabers and Jedi and stuff like that. It’s more like a prestige drama showcasing the birth of the rebellion, with normal people living under the weight of the empire.
1
halcyongtMar 29, 2026
+1
No one hates Star Wars as much as the fans. That’s a fact.
1
Curious_Plantain9577Mar 29, 2026
For what it is worth even in the show I made fun of above there’s this one amazing episode where the Mandalorian is on his own and has to reconcile what his life should be post baby Yoda leaving and we get to see some actual cool bounty hunting and this wicked space station design (that sadly never comes back) and this surprisingly engaging sequence of them refurbishing an old starship and it’s just all great. The best Mandalorian based content of any show in my opinion. A shame about the rest of the series, but that one episode was goated. Star Wars is just a love/hate sometimes

There's a man who made a *brilliant* movie on a very low budget called El Mariachi in 1991. Even better, if you've never seen it, buy the DVD. Then, watch it again with his DVD commentary.

Its funny how that works, somehow this looks, as you said, way cheaper and more low budget than something with visual imperfections originally introduced by...c**** and low budget equipment and film stock.

I really hope it sees a rerelease in the wake of The Whole Bloody Affair.
Grindhouse was a seriously fun night at the movies and I am so sad things like that don’t happen more often.
That being said… I think the extended version of Death Proof is far superior to the Grindhouse version and would hope they’d use it if they brought back the double feature.

Traditional b-movies are bad because they are low budget and made quickly. They aren't bad "on purpose". This one is "bad on purpose" because it is meant to evoke how those movies felt. Same with Black Dynamite, another homage to old b-movies (though specifically blaxploitation films).
Main thing here is just b-movies aren't for you. You just have no connection or nostalgia for them, so there's nothing really for you to enjoy here.

Black Dynamite is actually decent. It was true to the style and took all of its silliness seriously.

Absolutely loved this movie and hated "Deathproof" but at the time, it was intentional. The double feature was meant to reproduce that feeling you got when you went to the drive in and saw two movies back to back. One would be great and the other would just suck. Planet Terror was fantastic. The type of movie you just turn your brain off and just enjoy the carnage of their little world.
