This sounds similar to the university of Iowa shooting the other day. A fight that turned into 5 people shot

It’s a lost cause already if you’re arranging to fight. Enough restraint to organize such a stupid idea, but lacking in the last step to just resolve your issues like a real man.

Real men don't need guns. It's why foreigners look at American macho culture as such a pathetic thing. You can role play all you want with your guns but all we think is, weak.

I mean it's also just as likely the person with the gun brought it because he didn't want to fight or didn't think he could win. The problem isn't who brought the gun but they had access to one anyways

"but you live". I mean. *Maybe*. Fistfights are ***wildly*** dangerous and it's insane to me that we're so casual about this shit. It's is *very* easy to kill someone in a fistfight. There's a reason we still put people in prison for accidentally killing someone like that. Because anyone who gets into a fistfight should be doing so with the understanding that one of you can die and that will be on the survivor.

GenX here. I went to an all boys Catholic high school in the late 80s. It was pretty common if two classmates had a beef, one would "call the other one out". This was an invitation to fight after school at "2:06" (The time we were let out). If you declined and/or did not show you were a coward. If both showed up, a good chunk of the class would circle the two boys and a fight would ensue. Most of the time it never got to bad with the two involved swinging blows into one who took too many hits and submitted. I never remember anyone needing any special medical attention after. Most of the time it settled whatever dispute and both parties would leave with respect for the other one.
20
Thatguythatdrew 1 day ago +3
My catholic high school used to put kids in the boxing ring with gloves and headgear and let them sort it out. That stopped eventually. I think it never shouldve.

> Is "planned fight" a well-known, widely used term or something No, it's just a phrase in plain English that means what it says - a fight that was planned ahead of time, i.e.: "You and me, bike rack after school, I'm gonna kick your ass!" "I'll be there, and I'll knock your teeth in!" Except, in this case, they met at the park.
5

I instantly thought of when I was in school and the whole school would migrate 100 feet away from the school to watch a fight.

I’ve heard “planned fight” used for kids arranging a meetup to brawl, usually via Snapchat/text. Everyone shows up to watch, and then some idiot brings a gun. Articles should really spell that out.

Some states have mutual combat laws where if both parties agree they can fight with witnesses however once someone falls down that it. Going any further breaks that agreement and become a crime.
3
adx931 1 day ago +3
Back in the day we used to meet at the old car wash at the abandoned gas station to resolve interpersonal disputes. There were rules. Others would put a stop to the fight if it got out of hand. I think only one time someone ended up with a black eye, and really, most of the time the fights were just posturing, a couple of shoves, and someone stopping before their punch connected, and that was it. Most people really don't want to get hit.
3
THING2000 2 days ago +4
Not widely used at all but with the school year winding down, you might hear more stories like this one. This is just ancedotal knowledge based on my own experience but just last week a student was telling me about the various fights he's heard kids planning for the end of the school year. Kids agree to fight and all their friends show up to record and goad each other on. Sounds like this is what happened and at least one kids showed up with a gun. Yet, our leaders and politicians still don't care.

1
Soft_Construction793 1 day ago +1
When I was a kid, if you had a disagreement at school, you would threaten to beat up the other person by meeting at the water tower across from school property. Along the lines of "meet me at the water tower after school or you are a p**** " We didn't say " let's have a planned fight" but that's what it was. Doing it after school, off school property would prevent you from getting in trouble at school, like suspended or detention. Word spreads fast so there would always be a crowd of people to watch it go down.

I went to a rough elementary, middle and high school. This was in the 80s 90s.  While I saw more , meet me at the bell ring , end in knife fights I did lose a friend who showed up at the middle school soccer field to be gunned down by the years much older 7th grader Driven by his older brother. We all hit the floor or jumped the wall but knew who had done it. And that kid was dead by 20.

Firearms were not owned legally Firearms were not concealed legally Firearms were not used legally Firearms were in a zone illegally So 4 laws we already have didn't stop this and no politician is even remotely close to suggesting a pistol ban or confiscation
52
WOW_SUCH_KARMA 1 day ago +12
I’m genuinely not sure which side of the gun control debate you’re on because this is exactly the argument *for* guns, then you go on questioning why a politician hasn’t proposed banning them. You listed why, lol. It’s the equalizer against someone else who already does not respect the law. And for what it’s worth, two dumbasses who felt like bringing guns to a fistfight isn’t really worth the gun control debate anyway. This isn’t a mass shooting, nor is it even home defense gone wrong. This was Darwin taking out the trash.
12
doublethink_1984 1 day ago +5
Gun restrictions only punish and dissuade people who want to obey the law from being armed when it's needed most. A would-be murderer isn't going to see a gun free zone and give up on their murderous intentions because it woukd be illegal to carry in that place. A law abiding armed civilian will obey that law and be worse off for it shoukd something happen.
5
nan0brain 2 days ago +24
Cause we all know just one more law on top of the others will fix this, as criminals will line up to turn in their guns.

I am on the completely other side of the gun issue as you but I think enforcing the current laws would do the most to lower gun deaths based on the current statistics. From what I've seen though, the people that support additional gun laws are the ones trying to prevent the existing ones from being enforced
3
FrenchDipFellatio 2 days ago +33
Already illegal for kids to have glocks. Maybe start prosecuting irresponsible parents instead of more laws that exempt police officers every single time?
33
HappyStalker 2 days ago +29
Baltimore has been solving this by having cops seemingly every block which a lot of people who are anti gun are also not a fan of. You need someone to actually control the guns. Laws alone don’t do anything. We have had a ~60% reduction in both non fatal shootings and homicides in the past 5 years though.
29
the_eluder 2 days ago +6
Yep, they always have a reason the laws that exist shouldn't apply to a given person, who always needs just one more chance. Our problem is the revolving door in the court system, along with overhaul of our mental health system.
